Of course it can handle

2.09 [English, Japanese, Swiss]
2,09 [French/German/Russian]
$2.09 [US]
2,09€ [Many European]

and hundreds of other variants of text values, all meaning the same

Sometimes it may even interprete 2.09 as this years 2nd of September.
How the text 2.09 is evaluated to a number completely up to you.

If 2.09 does not give the desired decimal with text import, then it
won't give a number with direct input in Calc, Writer, Base neither.
Just type 2.09 into any table cell of any component and see if you get a
number.
The overall default locale for all numberals can be set in the language
options. The text import dialog has a locale selector to override the
default locale for the respective import process.
Each cell or numeric field in the whole office suite has a locale
selector for any numeric expression to override the default locale for
the respective element.

[libreoffice-users] Export Issues (Gallery, Template)

2012-09-04 Thread jazzon
I am managing a project which is being worked on by people from varios
locations world wide. Recently it was decided to utilize LibreOffice
project wide to create our documents for the project during the stages prior
to publication. As a result we have and are continuing to create templates
for the various document types we are working on. The problem arises when
we go to send the document templates out for others to use.

Our document covers, and many of our documents over all, rely heavily on
libraries of graphic images which have been converted into galleries for
Libre Office. Since our templates rely on these, and our authors will as
well, we need to find a way to export these Galleries for our authors and
developers to use.

The problem we encounter is how to export a gallery. Or even which files to
copy and compress to send out, to allow the galleries to exist on multiple
computers IDENTICALLY. The galleries, and the files need to have the same
names from machine to machine (at least the human readable part of the
gallery name), for the sake of the instruction brochures we give to new
developers and authors.

So what I need to know is:
1) What files have to be copied out of a custom gallery (when the Libre
installation already has multiple Galleries installed) so the gallery can be
transferred AS IS.
2) How can galleries created on an installation of Ubuntu Linux be
transferred to a Mac, or a Mac to Ubuntu (or Windows to etc.).
3) Where does one add custom fonts to L.O. ? There doesn't seem to be a
fonts path that I can find. (We use over a hundred different ones and some
of our people are on shared machines so installing that many fonts into the
system of a one machine:many user environment we are trying to avoid.)

Thanks in advance.

2012-09-04 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
I am not sure about the fonts issue but the rest could be handled by copying
the User Profile from one machine that is correctly set-up to all the rest.
http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Documentation/UserProfile

Really you probably only need 1 or 2 folders from inside the User Profile but
i'm not sure which ones.  There are probably other approaches but the cool
thing about the User Profile is that parts of it or even the whole of it can be
copied from one OS to another, even to/from different platforms; Windows, Mac,
GnuLinux etc.

[libreoffice-users] Re: Export Issues (Gallery, Template)

2012-09-04 Thread jazzon
Tom,
My thanks for the response.
Copying some folders from the Profile section does in fact seem to be an
option, however there is a large caveat there. Much of our 'official'
material starts with being created by unofficial users (think people who
edit wikis here), and while we could get the internal file which represents
the gallery on that users computer, the names are randomized and not very
long, so name collisions are possible. Additionally, I need to find out how
(if) L.O. copies the artwork for a gallery to a specific spot, or if the
'gallery file' simply acts as a data base containing records of the paths to
the images. If this is so (and I believe it is), then while our transfers
from the main server to the users could be intelligently bundled, anything
being submitted to us might be scrambled due to files stored in other places
not having been added to the archive sent to us. And then when we add it to
an archive, and our central server makes it available, and the original user
updates their copy, they wind up with duplicate files. Some of our users
are pretty prolific so that could become a real issue. Of course now that I
wrote all that I realize that will be a matter of educating our users and is
not a problem for here.

So you have solved my first problem for me, now if someone could figure out
the font thing I would be very appreciative.

Thanks again Tom

No issues with reinstalling 3.6.04 over 3.6.1:

Nor did I have any issues with installing 3.5.5rc3 over 3.5.6.2.

Look for files in gallery subdirectory in user directory (see answer below).

These files are some binary format unknown to libmagic. It seems that sdv file
contains metadata (gallery name etc.) while thm file contains thumbnails (to
display in LO). There is also sdg file which purpose is unknown to me.

I have made simple test that showed, that LO stores only information about file
in filesystem hierarchy, not file content itself. Unless there is way to change
that (which I don't know), your task to provide unified galleries for users
will be very challenging.

 2) How can galleries created on an installation of Ubuntu Linux be
transferred to a Mac, or a Mac to Ubuntu (or Windows to etc.).

LibreOffice stores information in user directory. You will find it in:

- Windows: %APPDATA%\LibreOffice\3\user\
- Linux: ~/.config/libreoffice/3/user/ (note: for LO 3.4.x and earlier it was
  ~/.libreoffice/3/user/)
- Mac OS X: ~/Library/Application Support/libreoffice/3/user/

I have fonts directory in /usr/lib/libreoffice/share/ (which is something
like
global user directory). Perhaps you can simply create fonts dir in user
directory and drop font files there.
But I have not checked. I prefer to put font files into ~/.fonts/, where they
are accessible for all programs (but not all users).

Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: Export Issues (Gallery, Template)

2012-09-04 Thread Heikki Jussila
Hi,
I was looking about the font issue and it seems that all OS-systems
(Windows, Mac, Gnu Linux) handle fonts differently. On windows they are
installed on OS level and in many cases you need to be administrator to do
font install. With Windows XP that was not a problem, since all users
almost always had admin rights, but with Vista and Win 7 this has changed.
You might be able to install on local level also with normal user rights
but I do not know since I have never done that.

On mac according to apple support pages the font locations are different
and have different impacts to users, try to see the followinng link.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2435

On linux you can install fonts on users level in a hidden .fonts folder
(usrxx/.fonts) that are then used by LO, but it would mean that probably
all you users would need to install you core fonts so that they stay the
same. In Linux the main folder for fonts is ~/.fonts/

LO as program AFAIK does not carry a special font folder, but looking into
the userProfile might give you a possibility to see if that is a
possibility or not.

I do not currently have LO installed (since the shlxthdl.dll of version
3.6.0 started doing stupid things and crashed the windows occasionally), so
I had to uninstall it.

Using LO 3.5.6 on Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit, I did not have any problems

I am using:
 LibreOffice 3.5.6.2

This was copied from the Help splash.

I use sudo dpkg -i *.deb for my install method.

I have not switched to 3.5.6, yet, on my 12.04/MATE system. That is my
dual booting laptop and rarely use it for LO work.

There have been some people who have issues with the default
dictionaries. Some have not worked, and now you have install issues.
It seems that there are just some systems that are just not having an
easy time installing LO.

As for the NA-DVD dictionaries, well there are about 20 localized
Spanish dictionaries there, so you can choose which country's version
you need. The American English version is over 773,000 words in size,
plus thesaurus.

I was wondering what would happen is I did not install any dictionaries
during the installation [DEB and Windows], and then install the version
of English, Spanish, and French ones I prefer. By the way, there are
several French dictionaries to choose from.

This does not sound like a problem with Libreoffice , but your printer
drivers. Try printing from another application installed on the system.

Using LO 3.5.6 on Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit, I did not have any problems installing
3.5.6 over 3.5.5.  I did not get any dictionary issues for the default 64-bit
DEB installs.

I am using:
     LibreOffice 3.5.6.2
     Build ID: e0fbe70-5879838-a0745b0-0cd1158-638b327

This was copied from the Help splash.

I use sudo dpkg -i *.deb for my install method.

I have not switched to 3.5.6, yet, on my 12.04/MATE system. That is my dual
booting laptop and rarely use it for LO work.

There have been some people who have issues with the default dictionaries.
Some have not worked, and now you have install issues.  It seems that there
are just some systems that are just not having an easy time installing LO.

As for the NA-DVD dictionaries, well there are about 20 localized Spanish
dictionaries there, so you can choose which country's version you need.  The
American English version is over 773,000 words in size, plus thesaurus.

I was wondering what would happen is I did not install any dictionaries during
the installation [DEB and Windows], and then install the version of English,
Spanish, and French ones I prefer.  By the way, there are several French
dictionaries to choose from.

All the various problems with dictionaries seem to have been solved when

I think fixing the existing dictionaries that get shipped with LO might be a
lot more work than just swapping them out and replacing with the ones on the
 Extensions site.

[libreoffice-users] Re: Export Issues (Gallery, Template)

2012-09-04 Thread jazzon
My thanks to all of you for your help with this issue, especially the mac
information since it is the one OS I am TOTALLY unfamiliar with.

Solution I came up with from this information and my own research shows that
on windows the fonts have to be installed at the OS level (as reported here
by Heikki and Miroslaw), and Linux (most of them anyway) can handle the
~/.fonts method.

Mac is similar with ~/Library/Fonts/ as a user level font location.

Best solution for windows is in the share folder of the installation I
guess, that way just Libre gets them and the kids doing their homework on
Brand X's product don't get confused by a system wide install (would be bad
if their teacher couldn't read the homework due to unavailability of
fonts...).

The gallery issue is just going to be a pain. So I am writting an
instructional paper right now to 'teach' all of our users to handle their
images like this:
1.) Before putting it in the document put it in
  - Windows: %APPDATA%\LibreOffice\3\user\gallery\projectIDCode\
  - Linux: ~/.config/libreoffice/3/user/ gallery/projectIDCode/
  - Mac OS X: ~/Library/Application Support/libreoffice/3/user/
gallery/projectIDCode/
2.) Create the gallery if its new.
3.) Import the gallery folder.
4.) Add the image to the file.

This way when galleries need to be updated all we need is the folder of
images and instructions on what folder to unpack them into, and simply
create the gallery new with the correct name, or reimport that directory.

So I guess my questions are all answered but one...who do I poke at to get
user level font control installed in the next major release?

Thank you again every one
Jase

 Rolling back to 3.6

Thanks Alejo.

I created a simple shell to clean dpkg, you might want to do the same so
that you don't have to enter each command separately:

$ cat lodictfix6.sh
#!/bin/sh

sudo mv /var/lib/dpkg/info/libreoffice3.6-dict-en.* /tmp/ sudo dpkg
--remove --force-remove-reinstreq libreoffice3.6-dict-en sudo mv
/var/lib/dpkg/info/libreoffice3.6-dict-es.* /tmp/ sudo dpkg --remove
--force-remove-reinstreq libreoffice3.6-dict-es sudo mv
/var/lib/dpkg/info/libreoffice3.6-dict-fr.* /tmp/ sudo dpkg --remove
--force-remove-reinstreq libreoffice3.6-dict-fr

Just add the commands for libreoffice3.6-dict-an:

#!/bin/sh

sudo mv /var/lib/dpkg/info/libreoffice3.6-dict-en.* /tmp/ sudo dpkg
--remove --force-remove-reinstreq libreoffice3.6-dict-en sudo mv
/var/lib/dpkg/info/libreoffice3.6-dict-es.* /tmp/ sudo dpkg --remove
--force-remove-reinstreq libreoffice3.6-dict-es sudo mv
/var/lib/dpkg/info/libreoffice3.6-dict-fr.* /tmp/ sudo dpkg --remove
--force-remove-reinstreq libreoffice3.6-dict-fr sudo mv
/var/lib/dpkg/info/libreoffice3.6-dict-an.* /tmp/ sudo dpkg --remove
--force-remove-reinstreq libreoffice3.6-dict-an

Not that the above is all one line. Just put into gedit/kedit and make
sure it's all one line then save as lodictfix6.sh (or whatever you
prefer) then run as a standard shell './lodictfix6.sh'.

I also did an lodictfix5.sh as well for cleaning LO 3.5 dpkg issues.

 /home/user/.config/libreoffice3.5, and
 /home/user/.config/libreoffice3.6). The Ubuntu 3.5 uses
 /home/user/.config/libreoffice.

I had no issues with those installed when the versions were 3.4.x,
3.5.5rc3, and 3.6.0.4. I'm reinstalling those versions again (minus
 3.4.x) to test again.

No issues with reinstalling 3.6.04 over 3.6.1:
 Setting up libreoffice3.6-dict-en (3.6.0.4-104) ...

 Setting up libreoffice3.6-dict-fr (3.6.0.4-104) ...

Nor did I have any issues with installing 3.5.5rc3 over 3.5.6.2.

Hi :)
Congrats!!  The thread there was quite interesting.  I'm sure we had this
question asked here not so long ago and they found post-script worked better.
I think they didn't find the better way of keeping .ps as the default format
though.  I think they used a template method.  It was interesting to hear it
wasn't just a openSUSE problem but doesn't seem to affect all OSes.

2012-09-04 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
On a GnuLinux command-line and i thikn other unix-based ones you can get a
quick-help, cheat-sheet that can give hints about what a command does.  It's
wise to have a quick look rather than just randomly accepting on-line advice!
For example try

ls --help

or

ls -h

Ok, ls does roughly the same as the dir command in Windows except that it
colour-codes the folders and files and has tons of options.  Oddly the dir
command does also work so you could try that although the tags and options are
probably quite different for dir.

Tom :)

        LibreOffice 3.5.6.2
        Build ID: e0fbe70-5879838-a0745b0-0cd1158-638b327

This was copied from the Help splash.

I use sudo dpkg -i *.deb for my install method.
Thanks. Can you please provide the output of:

 $ ls -al /opt/libreoffice3.5/share/extensions
 ...

Here is the clip from the Terminal.
I do not know what the ls is used for, but here it the info you wanted.

Thanks. Can you please try an install on your 12.04 machine? I don't
currently do not have any 10.4 test machines available my installs
have been on Ubuntu 12.04 32bit 64bit. So I'm curious to see if
perhaps it is an issue with the distro version.

Note: I installed the rpm builds to Fedora 17 last night, and while the
install also complained about the dictionaries:

ERROR: unknown sub-command sync!
Use unopkg --help (short -h) to print all options.
ERROR: Registration of extensions failed!

the dictionaries did install.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: Export Issues (Gallery, Template)

2012-09-04 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
Weird.  I have always assumed the gallery contained images.  I dunno where they
really are now!

Hopefully webmaster from Kracked Press might be able to help with the fonts
issue.  I don't think it's as simple as just installing them in the OS.  I
think that is just 1 step in the process.  Luckily most fonts install by just
double-clicking on them in whatever OS you happen to be in.
Regards from
Tom :)

Subject: [libreoffice-users] Re: Export Issues (Gallery, Template)

Jase

[libreoffice-users] AutoText and CR

2012-09-04 Thread Thomas Blasejewicz
Good morning
I am trying to get used to AutoText.
Although I succeeded in creating 2 new entries, these ALWAYS are
kombined upon insertion with a carriage return, even though I selected
only the text.
So, whenever I insert that autotext, I get a new line and have to remove
that manually.

1) Is that normal?
2) Is there a way to stop it? (insert only the text and do nothing else)

Thank you.
Thomas
