[libreoffice-users] Double Underline in Calc

2016-03-28 Thread Jim Byrnes

Using LO vers 4.2.8.2 on Ubuntu 14.04

If I go Format Cells--> Line Styles --> double underline all I see in
the cells I am trying to format is a thick dark line.

Is there a way to fix this?

Regards, Jim

An epub version would be nice. I find they work better on

I hope an epub version is coming. However, porting
highly-formatted material
to .epub format can be difficult, so it's going to take some time.

If anybody has any advice, I would appreciate hearing it.

Calibre is an open source ebook manager
which can import various formats, including ODT, and convert to
various formats, including EPUB. I haven't used it much; about the
most I've done is convert a couple of CHM (Windows help) files to
AZW3 to read on a Kindle, which seemed to work reasonably well. On
the Kindle, images are scaled to fit on the page, but a
press-and-hold allows them to be enlarged to full screen and zoomed
in further to see detail. I don't know how well it does with
complex documents, but may be worth trying.

I have used calibre to convert Getting Started with Base from
ODT to ePUB format.

Dan

I used calibre just now to convert to epub. You can read it all right,
but there's a lot of formatting that doesn't make it.

You are correct. For a good conversion between formats, you need
to use the editor component of calibre. With this, the styles can be
corrected. It takes several hours to do this. Using search and
replace can make it quicker. Regular expressions can be used to make
it even quicker. Patience and practice will help too.
I have written a document about how to use calibre to do this,
but it needs to be updated. Is someone needing this?

Dan

why not post it anyway Dan, with caveat if necessary, and let folks
see what needs doing, it might be useful anyway.

Hi,

I'm trying to figure out how to view embedded mp4 videos in a pptx
presentation on Windows.

   [.mp4 videos can be viewed with VLC;
if this is located within a PP, then LO's version should open it as
well - although I suspect that maybe it's not a PP video (that x) so
possibly MsFt has again changed their settings to be incompatible]

This works fine with LO 5.1.2 on Debian, but the same version on
Windows only gives me a big black question mark where the video should
be. (Same behaviour with older LO releases).

   [haven't a clue]

Converting the file to odp makes no difference, I also tried
extracting the videos, and they play fine in Windows Media Player, so
codecs doesn't seem to be an issue.

[how about saving the video to your machine, then opening with VLC]

The videos are H264 with no sound track.

Any help appreciated!

Re: [libreoffice-users] LO spreadsheet format row

The default formatting of cells means that text does not flow to
further lines in a cell unless either you enter Ctrl+Enter to create
a line break or you tick Format | Cells... | Alignment | Properties |
Wrap text automatically.

So that all rows have the same height.

Even if you allow multiple lines, you can easily reset any row height
to whatever you want.

Freeze doesn't seem to do that.

That's not surprising: Freeze does something else entirely.

Do you perhaps mean that you want others to be able to use the
spreadsheet and to modify it, but not to modify the height of a
particular row or rows? You can do that by protecting the row or
rows, but that also prevents modification of other features of those
rows, including their contents - which you may not want. To avoid
that, you could protect a single otherwise unused cell in any such
row; other cells in the row could then be modified. The problem is
that this appears to prevent explicit changes to the row height - by
dragging the row boundary or setting the height via the menus - but
not automatic ones through "Wrap text automatically" or ones
stimulated by Ctrl+Enter line breaks.

o Click the rectangle where the row and column headers meet (or press
Ctrl+A) to select the entire sheet.
o Go to Format | Cells... | Cell Protection | Protection and remove
the tick from Protected.

o Select the row or rows you want to protect or the unused cell or cells.
o Go to Format | Cells... | Cell Protection | Protection and tick Protected.
o Now go to Tools | Protect Document > | Sheet... and enter your password.

But I fear that this will not achieve what you need.

I trust this helps.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: New LibreOffice Book

2016-03-28 Thread Tim---Kracked_P_P---webmaster

I am using Ubuntu 15.10 64-bit with MATE.

I use Calibre every time I get an error, like unsupported format, when
trying to read books and documents on my 10 inch Android tablet.

At times I have to use one set of formatting settings, while sometimes
other settings, to get the source .epub documents/books to work
correctly. ALSO, I tend to reformat PDF files to be an easier read than
in its original "small print" page formatting, since these PDF pages
have their text too small for my eyes to read without eye strain.

Re: [libreoffice-users] LO spreadsheet format row

2016-03-28 Thread jorge
Hi Helen:

I think that you can do this:

If you can lock Row A

a)Select, the rest of the sheet A2 to AMJ1048576, then go to
b)Menu-Format-Cell-Protect Cell-uncheck protect box, then go to
c)Menu-Tools-Protect Document-Document
d)There, asign a password if you want, and keep check both boxes there.

Now you can work in whatever cell except in all cells of row A.

You can do this in whatever cell or cells that you want to lock.

I hope this help,

Regards,

Jorge Rodríguez

Re: [libreoffice-users] Volunteers for Documentation

2016-03-28 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
That sounds like a perfect combination :) I think you already do give back
to the community by helping solve problems raised in this mailing list. So
don't worry about that angle! However i'm sure the Documentation Team
would be glad to benefit from you too :)

The first step is to send an email to their mailing list;
documentat...@global.libreoffice.org
to say a little about yourself or/and your reason for joining in with work
on documentation. Your 2nd paragraph is perfect for that :) Some people
send in a full CV but really just a brief introduction is plenty.

It is a good idea to state that you would like a login for the ODFauthors
website;
http://www.odfauthors.org/libreoffice/english/
because the Documentation Team is so tiny and busy that it sometimes takes
them a while to realise they need to do a few things to set-up for you.

After sending a first email to them it's probably a good plan to start
reading some of their "First steps with the Documentation team";
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Documentation/Development

It usually takes them a fair while to respond so it's good to have
something constructive to do to avoid getting too frustrated with them.
You may find the guide to help you write, edit, proof-read or review the
guides raises some questions which might be a good way of "bumping" your
first post to them.

Btw with your back-ground in programming you might enjoy joining the QA
Team too, or instead. QA is not much to do with actually programming but
your experience with programming might be really useful in triaging and
de-geekifying some of the responses/requests from the devs.

Each different team has it's own personality(/ies) which is often quite a
bit different from what anyone might expect. It's sometimes good to try a
few different teams out before settling down with one.

Many thanks, good luck and regards from
Tom :)
