manual editing of the tags (or redoing the formatting) isn't really an
option.
That said .. perhaps exporting it to some other format then reloading it
would preserve content and formatting and omit the redundant tags? Any
suggestions as to which format to try would be welcome (no
changes since a given date' would probably be OK, but as the
timestamps in the XML are in local time(!) it would have to be used with
care ...

If you work in mm, the 2 decimal places the GUI so unreasonably forces
will give a precision of 10μm. Not altogether convenient for the
"traditionally minded" among us though :-)

I use Writer, save and exit, and am occasionally immediately greeted by
the recovery dialogue followed (IIRC) by the generic LO startup window.
Anyone else noticed this? It's not repeatable to order, and is quite
unpredictable.
commenting on either PoV, does this not suggest that footnote
formatting (and probably other similar issues) should have a default
controlled by the locale?
