[libreoffice-users] Irregularities with footnote numbering when switching to MSW

I am working on a series of documents, chapters of a book, en every time I set up footnotes with regular arabic numbers, 1/2/3/4/5 etc, but when I send the file to a colleague, and she opens it up in MSW, it shows up as arabic numbers. I am at a loss any more as to how to change that, without

There is a feature in Word that is not well supported in LO and is breaking my back when people make a comment in Word, the text is highlighted and that highlighting disappears again when you delete the comment. Try to do that in LO, and it's hopeless. The highlighting does not disappear,

This year, I switched to Ubuntu, and I am having a problem with the opening of spreadsheet and other Libre Office files, though not with Writer, which is what I use the most. When I open a spreadsheet, the icon appears in the margin, but I cannot actually open the document and get it to display.
