[libreoffice-users] user's profile on an iMac

2015-09-08 Thread Guy Voets
Hello,

I have a problem with sorting in Calc and the solution could be to throw
out my user's profile.

Normally, this sits in user/libray/application support/libreoffice/4
but on my Yosemite 27" iMac, there is no Library in my user map!
The Library in the root map doesn't contain application support for LO.

Any idea where this could be hidden?
In LO, the Paths indicate the path mentioned above, in the Library under
user.

Thanks,

Hello again,

I've been testing a bit on a few files, but even the simplest sort on the A
column, with or without column headers, of a small original ods file (15
columns, 50 rows) makes LO quit.

Is it the Mac version? I updated to LO 5.0.1, but the result is the same.
I will try and find time to file a bug report...

Thanks,

Hello,

LO 5 looks fine and evrything seems to work fine too.

But...
I regularly do a sort on multiple colums (with headers) in Calc: C, G and F.
LO stumbles and quits systematically on this request.

Any ideas?

[libreoffice-users] Fwd: shortcut pdf does not respect settings

2015-04-03 Thread Guy Voets
Hello there,

The version I use at present is LO 4.4.1.2, with a Dutch interface, om Mac.
When I use the PDF shortcut in the Standard toolbar (between Save and Print
icons), the text in the resulting pdf file isn't justified, while it is
justified in the original odt.
From the top left menu File > Export as PDF produces the same error.
I need to make the detour of the Print dialog > PDF > Save as PDF to get it
right.

I suppose this is a -new- bug, because in my previous version of LO
(Feb'15) the pdf text was justified just as its odt original.

Hello Thomas,

I can't confirm this behaviour. When I copy and paste, no space is inserted

[libreoffice-users] Is it safe to install Java for OS X 2012-006 1.0

2012-10-18 Thread Guy Voets
Hello,

I wonder whether I can safely install the new Java for Apple (Java for OS X
2012-006 1.0) that is proposed by the App Store.
The update improves security, reliability and compatibility , updating to
1.6.0_37 for Java SE 6.
What worries me a little is that the update will eliminate the Java-applet
plugin (from Apple) from all web browsers it find on my computer. I will
then have to install manually the newest version of the Java-applet plugin
from Oracle...

What will be the incidence of this installation (and possible
des-installation) on LibreOffice?
I ask because there were earlier issues with Java updates (by Apple or
otherwise) for the norùal functioning of LibO.

Thanks for your ideas

Thanks again, Mirosław, it seems that with a List Style, it should work. I
didn't use a style for this numbering, just adapting the setting on the go.
Styles are always a better option, even if a bit more work to start with.

Thanks for the suggestion, Mirosław,
but what remains unsolved is the indent of the paragraph after the a. or b.
etc. If the text after the second level numbering (in this case a.
generated with my field definition) continues to the next line, it won't be
indented like the other second level paragraphs.
That in fact is the real problem I'm facing.
If I use the indent icon, the whole paragraph will move to the right,
including the first level numbering.

Any idea how to solve this?

[libreoffice-users] numbering problem

2012-10-12 Thread Guy Voets
Hi there,

I have a small problem with paragraph numbering:
1.
  a.
  b.
2.
  a.
  b.
  c.
is no problem
but when I want in some instances
1. a.
  b.
I can't get the first and second level on the same line.

How can this be done? And I don't mean to have
1.a.
but to maintain the formatting of both levels (and thusthe distance between
them)

thanks for thinking with (or for) me...

[libreoffice-users] bug search and replace in half height window

Hello,

I have a window with Writer that is half the height of my screen.
I do a search & replace, but the text doesn't always move down in the

Quite annoying because either you scroll manually, or you say search (next)
and at the end start from the beginning again, till you have found all
occurrences of the word you want replaced.

[libreoffice-users] Word count fantasies

2012-08-12 Thread Guy Voets
Hello,

I suspect a bug has entered the word count. I tested some texts and found
serious differences between the number of words LibO 3.6 (3.6.0.4 to be
exact) gives and the real number (as given by LibO 3.5).
A text of 1200 words only has 660, a 7000 word text gives a 4900 count.
Some paragraphs (when selected) give a correct count, others not.
What may be the cause of this anomaly?
Can anybody confirm, on Mac or with other OS?

Hi Johnny, thanks.

I get your point...
The language/country setting is Dutch/Belgium, which normally should give
20-7-2012, and I liked the practicality of just having to type 20-7 to get
this date entered in the spreadsheet.
I suppose I'll have to get used to the ISO standard behaviour.

[libreoffice-users] LibO 3.6.0.2 - Calc: date notation

2012-07-23 Thread Guy Voets
Hi folks,

A LibO spreadsheet, made in LibO, Dutch version (no Excel or OOo past).

   - In LibO 3.5.5, I used to give in dates as 20-7 and they were shown as
   20 Jul 12.
   - In LibO 3.6.0.2, if I enter 20-7, 20-7 is shown in the cell.

If I enter 20-7-12, the date is inverted into 12 Jul 2020.
So instead of entering 20-7, I now need to enter 12-7-20 to get the desired
notation 20 Jul 12.

Is this a new feature, or a bug?

Hi Manfred,

I tried this weekend to reach ask.libreoffice.org, but it was too busy. I
only succeeded to see the solutions you propose today. The 'uninstall'
option in the Anaphraseus menu doesn't seem to work. The 'uninstall' option
in the 'Readme_Eng' file gave the same error message as above. I also
clicked on the 'remove menu' button... surprise surprise, it now seems all
things Anaphraseus are gone.

thanks!

[libreoffice-users] Uninstall Anaphraseus (LibO 3.6 on Mac)

2012-07-21 Thread Guy Voets
Hi all,

I installed 3.6.0.2 today, and have a problem with the Anaphraseus
extension.
The extension hasn't been working for some time, but now, I get a error
message from LibO:

a Scripting Framework error occurred while executing Basic script
vnd.sun.star.script:LibAnaphrase.Install.removeAnaphraseus
language=Basic&Location=application

Message: The following Basic script could not be found:
library: 'LibAnaphrase'
module: 'Install'
method: 'RemoveAnaphraseus'
location: 'application'

This window now appears every time I close a document...
How to get rid of Anaphraseus (it doesn't work anyway because pf some
conflict with Google Translate or such).

BTW: Anaphraseus is kind of a clone of WordFast (for MSWord), a CAT tool.

Thanks Dan!
Well, I suspected something like that.
The situation is a little different on a Mac, however.

The arrows on a Mac scrollbar are ar the bottom, an up arrow, a dwon arrow,
and in between a third icon. Clicking on this icon (Navigation) gives you
the possibility to change where the arrows bring you: next/previous page,
next section, next marker etc.

The space immediately above the up arrow is not marked in any way, and when
you're at the bottom of the document, the grey rectangular marker that
moves in the scrollbar even goes all the way down, into this 'strange'
area. So there's no way of knowing which will be the behaviour when you
click somewhere at the bottom of the unmarked scrollbar. Sometimes you will
you down one line, sometimes up one line, and a millimeter higher you will
jump down one page (or go to whatever you chose in the Navigation).
A bit odd, don't you agree.

Anyway, if it's tha expected behaviour, I'll learn to live with it, but
some indication (small icons?) of what to expect might be useful.

This is not really new, but I didn't take the time till now to report it.
When I click somewhere on the scrollbar in a Writer document, the part of

When I click in the last centimeter of the scrollbar, however, just above
teh 3 icons (e.g. 'search further below' or '.. up', 'navigation'), the
text will on the contrary go up line by line.
Is this normal behaviour? Why?

Hi there,

I can confirm it crashes on my iMac (OS Lion 7.3) too when I try to save it
as docx.
Normally, I have no problem saving as docx in 3.5.1, so I suppose something
sticky in your template. probably easier to make a new template than to
find out why the old one crashes, but it shouldn't happen, should it?

[libreoffice-users] savedState problem on Mac

2012-02-19 Thread Guy Voets
Hello,

I downloaded the official LibO 3.5 version.
I looked into a problem of another user, with a file that made LibO hang.
When I started again after a force quit, LibO showed the terrible bug that
has been haunting Mac versions for some time:
bug # 39007 (https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=39007)

The solution is to open a Terminal and use the following command:

rm -fr ~/Library/Saved\ Application\ State/org.libreoffice.script.savedState/

still is a PITA!
I hope the issue will be addressed soon in a following version, it already
slipped through the 3.4 QA...

Hello,

I use Firefox or Chrome to download LibO. Did you try using another browser
than Safari?
I just did a download of LibO 3.4.5 without any proble, less than a minute.
I didn't see another download link, even when you go to one of the
international pages, they bring you back to the same download place in
another language.
Yu could try a bittorrent, but I don't know if the result is better (takes
longer too).

I'd say, try again...
good luck,

The problem is some conflict between Lion and LibO, and not even on all
Macs with Lion. I have it from time to time on a MBP, not on my iMac.
How to avoid it: closing LibO before shutting down your computer.
It will still occur when LiboO hangs and you have to Force Quit.

Remedy: use Terminal to throw away the savedState file that seems to cause
the problem of the obstinate restore/don't restore window.

Open Terminal (in your Applications/Programs folder > Auxiliaries or Help
Programs)
after the prompt ($) type:

rm -fr ~/Library/Saved\ Application\ State/org.libreoffice.script.savedState/

followed by a return and the problem should be solved...

You can find the Terminal command solution in bug report 39007.
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=39007

It was discussed on this list a few months ago, but the bug still isn't
solved in 3.4.4, probably causing quite a few Mac-users to abandon LibO!

Hello,

Comments lets you put remarks in a rectangle situated in a margin that
opens at the right hand side of your document. They are outside the
document, don't get printed, but are safe with the document.

I don't knwo how to make the 'balloon' you want, i.e. a small window
that opens above the word that you hover above with your mouse. I know
this exists in html, I don't know about documents though.

Hello Jeremy,

1) I'm not too sure... but dictionaries now are extensions (.oxt), so
I suppose they are located where LibO keeps its extensions. The
place/path may vary according to your OS.

On my Mac, I found them in the LibO package (in the Programs or
Applications folder):
Contents>share>extensions>dict-en / dict-es / dict-fr / dict-nl ...

Since I installed the US version and a Dutch language pack, I also
find in the LibO package
Contents>basis-link>share>wordbook>nl and ...>en-US

So apparently, I have two dictionaries for NL... which one is really in use?
According to the size, it seems to be the ones in >extensions.

2) In LibO, language is linked to character (Format>Character>Font>Language).
It is the most practical to link language to a template or paragraph
style. When you use a certain style, including a language defintion,
for a paragraph, LibO will consult the corresponding dictionary (if it
is installed - see a blue V next to its name in the language list).
LibO may check spelling (and possibly grammar) while you type, or
afterwards when you do a check-up.
If you use more than one language, you can specify this to LibO by
using several paragrapgh styles, each with different language choice,
or you can simply highligt a word or sentence and indicate another
language for it (in the Format menu, or in the status bar below,
simply clicking in the 3rd item and chosing the right language).

I hope I made it clear...

Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: Persistent "Restore Windows" Window

2011-09-18 Thread Guy Voets
Hello,

I had the same problem on a MacBookPro - see thread 'annoying restore

quote:

Hello,

Looked at the bug report. This is really what's happening on my MBP,
but fortunately not on my iMac till now (both with Lion 7.1 and LibO

I tried the solution via Terminal and it seems to work. Thanks NoOp
for pointing in out - and for iago to provide the command.
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=39007

The eternal restore window has now gone... but I think it is an
important bug, as others in the bug report said, and should be
addressed if LibO wants to keep simple Mac users on board!

Thanks.

So take a look at the bug report and use the command in a Terminal window.
It worked for me...

[libreoffice-users] docx format troubles

2011-09-15 Thread Guy Voets
Hi,

I made a translation of a docx file. Just copied and pasted
'special/without formatting' the translated text over each segment of
the original text, in order to keep the initial formatting.
The file format of the document was docx, and I never changed that -as
far as I know at least, I'm aware that there are several versions of
the docx format.
When I send the translated document back to the person that asked me
to translate it, he couldn't open it.
According to the info in the Save dialog, the original document would
be a 2007 XML docx file. According to Mac file info, it's an Office
Open XML (I suppose that's the same). The document I sent back, has
the same format.

So what went wrong?
In LibO, I can open de document without any problem.
What can I do when this happens again?
I sent another copy in good old doc format, but I suppose I should
also recommend not using docx, and propose a download of LibO to solve
such compatibility issues.

Thanks for your help...

Strangely enough 1: there is no LibO directory in my

Strangely enough 2: there is no Libray in my Users//

so where may the config file be?

Hi Tink,

The restore window blocks access to my Prefs, so I can't lok up the
path to backups there
but I'm sure I didn't change it from the default location...

what is the default location of these files?

thanks already,

[libreoffice-users] annoying restore window

2011-09-11 Thread Guy Voets
Hello,

I know this is an old one, but I encounter it today and can't find the
answer in the list that easily... please help me out!

Where do I find the config file that I have to rename in order to get
rid of a restore files window that won't go away.
I'm on a Mac Lion 7.1 with LibO's newest version (I can't even check
now which one, the restore window blocks all).

The restore window offers two options: don't restore / restore, but
none of these triggers any action.
LibO hangs but pretends that it just is waiting for my choice restore/don't
I have to force quit LibO and when I start up LibO again (even after a
restart of the Mac) the same window reappears - alongside the bigger
restore window with a choice of files that were open at the last
session.

So I guess I have to kill the config file, if only I remembered where it is...

thanks for your help and attention

Hello Rogier,

Did you define the language of the document, either in its style
(Format>Styles (Control-T)) or in direct formatting
(Format>Character>Font>Language) ?
When the dictionary is properly installed, it should have a v-sign
next to it in the list of languages in Font-Language (as well as in
the preferences page you mention >language settings>languages>standard
language

The language is a characteristic of the Character (letter in Dutch)
and can be defined for a single word, a sentence, a paragraph or an
entire text.

Hope thie helps - or else try to explain more in detail what you do/whathappens.

[libreoffice-users] Calc: colour of negative numbers

Hello,

In LibO 3.3, I could make negative numbers show in white instead of
the default red colour.
I used white because of a green background, on which red numbers give
a strange effect.

In Lib 3.4, this [WHITE] code disappears from the Number Format Code,
that goes back to
#.##0,00:-#.##0,00 with the option Negative numbers red ticked/checked

When I put the [WHITE] code back, it disappears after closing and
reopening the Calc file (created as ods and remains ods)
#.##0,00:[WHITE]-#.##0,00 (Negative numbers red option is greyed out)

This [WHITE] format code still functions in OOo 3.3.0 (m19 Build:9561

I'd say the fonts come with your computer and its printer(s), but you
can also install other fonts...

[libreoffice-users] LibO 3.4.0 b2 - Calc - colour of negative numbers

2011-04-27 Thread Guy Voets
Hi,

I have the 3.4 beta2 installed on my Mac.
In LibO 3.3.2, I can choose the colour of negative numbers by changing
the colour name between [ ] in the format code (Format > Cells >
Numbers). #.##0,00;[RED]-#.##0,00
Because of the background, I changed the colour to [WHITE] instead of
the default [RED].

When I open the same spreadsheet in LibO 3.4.0 b2, the colour returns
to red, but the format code doesn't include the [RED] indication.
#.##0,00;-#.##0,00
In fact, all the columns that I changed to white, are now red when the
numbers are negative. I have to redefine all the columns concerned, in
all the sheets of the file.

The colour code seems to be absent from the 3.4 b2 version.

Hi Wayne,

I changed the screen resolution to 1024x768, even to 680x400, but the
tildes remain.
Could it be because of the Dutch version I use? ... checking ... Yes
it is a bug (or feature?) in the Dutch LangPack... Si I'll post this
at the NL list.
Thanks for helping me find out.

[libreoffice-users] menu items with ~

2011-04-24 Thread Guy Voets
)Hello,

I installed the 2nd beta for LibO 3.4.0 (DEV300m103 (Build:2) on my
Intel iMac with OSX 10.6.7.
This version seems to work OK, contary to the 1st beta that wouldn't even start.

What I found, is that menu items like OK, Annul are now sometimes
preceeded by a til or tilde (~).
Is this a bug or has it a function? The ~ appears e.g. in the Paste
Special dialog, Insert Table dialog, Word Count dialog...
but not in others as Save As, Speller...

Hi there,

I can confirm that the latest beta won't start on Mac.
I downloaded LibO 3.4 beta1 yesterday, but it crashes systematically
when I try to launch it.
I have an Intel iMac with OSX 10.6.7.
All opening procedures give the same result:
• doubleclick on icon in Dock
• drag ods file and drop on icon in Dock
• right/ctrl click on file and choose Open with

I'll wait for the next RC. Stable LibO 3.3.2 works normally (I was
afraid for one moment, since I installed a security update from Mac
OSX yesterday...

Works fine for me on Mac with 10.6.6 and LibO 3.3.2 (330m19 Build:202
tag 3.3.2.2). Previous versions were also OK, as far as I know.

I remember I used to import dates of birth in Excel files made in
Windows, and on my Mac everybody got 4 years minus one day younger -
or somthing like that. Excel on Windows used another 'null date' than
Excel for Mac. There was an option in the preferences to choose
between 01-01-1904 and the Windows date (01-01-1900 or 31 / 31-12-1899
- that I don't remember).
The problem you found seems similar to this.

Looking a bit further, I found in LibO's Prefs: LibO Calc > Calculate
> Date the three possibilities (Standard, StarOffice Calc 1.0
(01-01-1900), 1-1-1904). By default, the date is set to 31-12-1899.

When you make your template, you can choose your start date here.

Hello Thomas,

I was a WordPerfect user and fan also, in the years of WP 4.2 till 6.
The easiness to change the keyboard as you like was one of its great
features, as was the 'show codes' function.

You can adapt your keyboard under LibO by assigning macros to certain
key combinations.
See Extra > Adapt > Keyboard
It seems you cannot reassign the normal letters/capital letters, but
only key combinations (with alt, control, command) - otherwise known
as 'keyboard shortcuts'.

Hello Tink,

I can't confirm your problem. LibO 3.3.0 RC2 on Mac OS 10.6.5.
Put your formula in a spreadsheet, saved as xls, reopened and all is well.
No crash, no corrupted formula.
Concerning macros: LibO and MS have different macro languages.

Hello,

If you already have LibO in your Applications, you will be asked to
replace the LibO already there.
I think it's important to mention this, since it may confuse newbies...

No uninstall necessary, just overwrite the existing LibO folder in Apps.

Existing prefs, words added to dictionaries, extensions, autotext,
templates, etc. are kept in Libraries>Application
Support>LibreOffice>3 that isn't affected when you install a new
(minor) version.

Hello,

Looking a bit deeper into the tdf website, I found the Mac PPC version here:

Third on the list is the US version, if you want the dialogs in

[libreoffice-users] footnote and columns

2010-10-28 Thread Guy Voets
Hello,

I have a section with 2 equal-length columns. I type text in the
columns, and this text is equally spread over both columns. So far so
good. Then I make a footnote. Now, the word with the (1) passes to the
next page, leaving the second column empty. The text of the note is
too long to fit at the bottom of the first column, but I would expect
that the note text would be split over both columns (continue from the
first into the second, as happens with the text in the columns - or
with a footnote in a text without columns).
Is this a bug, or is there a solution?
