Okay first thing first I am huge fan of Bret, his ideas and his thought
process is crazy and out of the box.
For people who don't know about him check out his website[1]. The next
thing is he goes on to talk about
Alan Kay's ideas and the way he approached programming. The funny part is a
lot of us are good programmers but
we think that it is monotonous. Let me tell you programming is an art, the
way you think decides what kind of and what
quality of things you make.

I think we are very reluctant to evolve to accept new ideas, to fail. We
shouldn't be that and I like that about Bret he goes into
the depth of it. More over I love that fact the he started with 1963 and
was trying us to show the picture that we are still stuck back in time.

Amazing video. For me the takeaways from this video will be if you
really like to build something, you should not shy away from
implementing your idea into reality, even if sounds stupid. And more
importantly you should share it with other people. Who knows if people
surprisingly appreciate your work which you thought to be useless.

I always thought that people get to know everything about something and
then apply their knowledge. But recently I realized I was wrong.
Learning by doing is the best way of learning. This video relates to
that point too. Loved it.

The video was inspiring and one quote I really like from the video was
"Ideas first , tools later " because that's how most of the self taught
programmers learn they learn by doing and building what they love.

Ps : This is my first post in the mailing list, hope I am doing it right.

I had to watch it twice, she's talking quite fast ;) but it was worth
it, cool projects and a great attitude :D
It's true that humor can be a great defense against harassment, still it
doesn't leave you unharmed. I love to see how Jenn Schiffer deals with
this and I wish that strength for every person that's being bullied or
hassled otherwise.

I am not sure how do you write emails, but the tool could not quote the

Correct, and it becomes somewhat easier when you are only dealing with
code. A similar example can be all the small stupid code which we write
to learn how things work, or just to have fun with computers.

That also brings the point of writing and reading code regularly.

Release the initial code with documentation and a proper license first,
so that people can actually test and see what did you do. New features
can come later. Remember to release early and release often.
