As promised, after 1.6 we have loaded up some experimental search
capability on rso. All of the examples below should now work fine, you
can even search for org if you choose. We still have lots of ui work
to be done here but the core searching is vastly improved.

Must have been the patch put in place today, I saw it working
yesterday. Oh well, like I said experimental ;-)

I'm not showing dependency information just yet, but plan to add that
soon. At the moment I use them for powering the search -- relevance is
determined by the number of dependency references to an artifact.
The rsync shouldn't be taking up much bandwidth since poms compress

I believe Nexus Indexer is the preferred mecahnism to get project
metadata efficiently. I don't know what ibiblio's policy with respect to
rsync is, but I know people have been banned from central for crawling
in the past.

Just took a quick look and it doesn't look like I can get the full
dependency tree from that index. It looks like it only provides access
to simple groupId/artifactId/version (GAV?) information and a few
other artifact-level attributes. I'll look into it a bit more later
on.

Hmmm. I don't see where you're using that information on your site. But
this is really an issue between you and the provider of wherever you are
rsyncing. If they're fine with you using their bandwidth this way,
that's their call to make. If I were you, I would have asked first, but

Justin,
I'm actually rsync'ing *.pom off one of the mirrors (I think I used
ibiblio). I'm not running the rsync very often at the moment as
performance seems to fluctuate quite a bit. I'm open to any
suggestions/ideas about improving this, but this seemed like the
easiest way to get going at the

One thing I noticed in the blog entry is that you ran into trouble
parsing the POM file. This indicates that you are crawling central. Is
this true?

It does not seem to be very up to date. I prefer to use the sonatype nexus

I like the sonatype one as well. But if you search for struts there,
the only thing you get is: Too many results, please refine the search.
Nexus could instead return newest result, possibly saying, click for
more or something. So unless you roughly know what version of struts
you want you won't

week and then fixing the too many search results is next up to slay.

Actually, it looks like all search is borked now on r.s.o (which is
running 1.6.0). Not the best sign guys :)

Most of the time when I look for something and get that problem I just the

Hey all,
I've just launched yet another Maven repository search app at
http://srchmvn.com/
It tries to return more relevant results than the other versions I've
seen out there. You can find more details in this blog post if you're

Nice one. Can never have too many web-based Maven repository search
apps :).
Are you just searching the central repo? If not, a brief google-esque
summary attached to each search result item indicating where the
artefact is located would be handy.

Yep, it's just the central repo for now. Haven't needed to use any
others in my last few projects, but I could add support if people
requested it.
Showing some more info in various places is on my todo list though.
