Artifactory or Archiva ? If not the first step is to install one...Nexus
supports Maven 1 as well (please check the docs...i'm not 100% sure..)...

first i would suggest that you post your pom and the exact error
message...may be you could run mvn -X ...and create an Issue entry for
the rpm-maven-plugin and attach the pom and the logfile to it...

I've never seen a version marker like this..
or 2.1.1-RC1-SNAPSHOT the release plugin
This works...after 2.1.1-RC1-SNAPSHOT it will become

if you have really dependencies without version the build will fail in Maven.
This sounds more like having a dependencyManagement block somewhere in the
parents which define the appropriate versions which is ok.
The question is what you like to achieve?

I have a multi-module-project with one module that implements classes for
testing (test-parent) and another module (test-child) that uses
/maven-assembly-plugin/single-mojo.html
which allows to suppress attaching an artifact in particular if you have
intermediate results which you don't like to attach to the project..
