I have not used any Word Perfect product in at least a  dozen years.
I do not know what file formats WP 7 uses.

It is my understanding that Open Office (OO) 4.2.1does not directly handle
the PW file format *.wpd, due to licensing issues with Corel, the publisher
of Word Perfect.

Similarly, OO does not handle the *.docx file formats whic the newer
versions of MIcro$loth Word and Micro$loth Office utilize.

I know that there are "work arounds" for the Micro$oft files, which can be
forced to save documents in the *.doc format.

I do not know if there are similar workarounds for the Word Perfect file
formats within Word Perfect 7.

I do know that the MIcro$oft Word / Office work arounds require that yu
have Word / Office available upon your machine in addition to OO.

Hopefully others more familiar with WP7 will join in this discussion.

Mail Merge - Missing Sheet in Data Base

Hello,
I have Open Office 4.1.2 and I use Windows 7.
I have been trying to use Mail Merge. I get to the point where I have 
registered my data base (an Excel Spread Sheet). Under the data base 
file it should show all the sheets in the file to choose one. I only 
have 2 sheets. The active addresses and a Blank sheet I use to print out 
and hand write in new addresses when I hold a class. The only sheet that 
will show up is the Blank sheet. This sheet shows all the fields (but, 
of course, the information in the columns is blank). I can not get the 
active sheet with the addresses on it to show up so I can select it. I 
have deleted the Blank sheet - then I don't get any sheets to show up. I 
have saved the spread sheet as a .xls and as a .ods file. This has been 
very frustrating and I have tried to do this for years. Don't know what 
to do about it. Please help.

Nachdem meine bisherigen Bemühungen nicht von Erfolg gekrönt waren, habe ich 
mich mit der Freundin, die mich bisher bei diesem Fall unterstützt hat, in 
Verbindung gesetzt. Da sie ebenfalls OpenOffice nutzt und bisher fehlerfrei 
PDFs erstellen konnte, habe ich ihre Einstellungen testweise übernommen. 
Außerdem habe ich wieder die neueste Version von OpenOffice installiert, um 
sicherzugehen dass es kein Problem einer älteren Version sein kann.
 
Die Einstellungen weichen von dem ab, was Michael empfohlen hat. Soweit ich 
mich erinnere sind es die "Werkseinstellungen", die von Installation ab 
eingestellt sind: "Bereich: Alle", "Bilder: Verlustfreie Komprimierung", 
"Allgemein: PDF-Formular erzeugen (Format FDF) und Lesezeichen exportieren". 
Zusätzlich habe ich dasselbe Dokument per LibreOffice mit den gleichen 
Einstellungen in ein PDF umgewandelt.
Ihr Bericht sah so aus: das PDF per OpenOffice wies die altbekannte fehlerhafte 
Darstellung auf, dass lediglich "Punkte" (wirkt wie Morsealphabet) in den 
Zeilen stehen. Per LibreOffice wird nur eine leere Seite angezeigt. Auffallend 
war jedoch, dass ihr Adobe Reader die PDFs (beide) als ".pdf.htm" öffnet. Ich 
weiß allerdings daraus noch keine Schlüsse zu ziehen.
Nachdem wir beide das gleiche Programm mit den gleichen Einstellungen nutzen, 
schickte ich ihr einmal das Ursprungs-Dokument und bat ich sie aus Neugierde 
(und weil ich schon einen Defekt am ODT-Dokument in Erwägung zog) mal darum, 
selbst daraus ein PDF zu erstellen. Verblüffenderweise traten keinerlei Fehler 
auf, sowohl bei ihr als auch bei mir wird das PDF korrekt dargestellt, 
inklusive des farbgefüllten Rahmens und des eingefügten JPGs. Ist das irgendwie 
hilfreich? Euch allen jedenfalls einen angenehmen Tag, egal was ihr tut!

P.S.: Ein Gedanke der mir noch kam, da ich auch mit dem Einsatz 
unterschiedlicher Schriftarten experimentiert habe, war der, dass auf meiner 
Seite irgendein Fehler verhindert, dass Schriftarten richtig ins PDF-Dokument 
eingebettet werden (der Fehler trat versions- und programmübergreifend auf, 
selbst wenn in den Einstellungen "Standardschriften einbetten" aktiviert war). 
Wäre das denkbar? Wie gesagt, nur ein Gedanke, eher intuitiv.

However, the .doc format from earlier Microsoft Write programs is 
readable with very little if any format difference from the later .docx 
format. Anyone with the software to write .docx files should have no 
problem reading .doc files.

OK, Michael, ist notiert! ;) Nichts für ungut jedenfalls.
 
Dass Anhänge über diesen Verteiler nicht mitverschickt werden
können, wusste ich nicht. Sorry. Leider habe ich zur Zeit auch keinen
eigenen Webspace zur Hand, den ich kurzzeitig nutzen könnte, darum
beschreibe ich die Einstellungen ("Allgemein") für den PDF-Export aus
dem Screenshot. Haken sind gesetzt bei den Optionen "Bereich: Alle",
"Grafiken: Verlustfreie Komprimierung", "Allgemein: PDF/A-1a" und
"Allgemein: Lesezeichen exportieren". Die Fehlermeldung aus dem zweiten
Bildanhang liest sich wie folgt: "Beim Verarbeiten einer Seite ist ein
Fehler aufgetreten. Ungültiger Farbraum".
 
@Konrad: Als mögliche Zwischenlösung werde ich auch das Exportieren
als JPG versuchen. Als weiteres PDF-Umwandlungsprogramm bzw. als
PDF-Drucker benutze ich den PDF Creator von pdfforge, ist das in etwa
das, was du meinst? pdf24 creator war mir bis jetzt leider kein
Begriff. Den PDF-Creator benutze ich primär dazu, mehrere PDFs
zusammenzufügen, als "PDF-Drucker" hab ich das Programm aber auch
schon auf mein aktuelles Problem angewandt, leider ohne Erfolg.
