DOC format file saving

I have a form in doc format with macros that has labeled check boxes. 
After saving labels for the check boxes disappear. Is there a way to 
make this work in Open Office? If not can LibreOffice do it?

word processing programs since the 70s, and have in that time run into all
kinds of bugs and snafus.  I try to remember solutions ro write them down
because if it happens once, it will surely happen again.  Thank you.

I have loaded it several times and I still will not save.  I only get the
error message.  What can I do.
