Great!

Funny fact: I use Windows 11 Insider Preview and don't have "suggested
actions" available...

Diannia,

I haven't seen this problem but it sounds like your article is being
displayed by a plugin in your xfinity email. Copy/paste are uncertain
under those conditions.

Can you save the file and then try to open it? Might eliminate one
possible source of error.

Best of luck!

Does anyone know why? How can I fix or solve this problem?

 I'm guessing here, but ...

Are your years genuine date values in the original data in the
spreadsheet? If so, remember that what you see in the cells is
controlled by the cell formatting as well as the actual values. When
you create a chart from these values, Calc inherits this formatting
by default into the chart labels. This inheritance is dynamic, so
that subsequent changes to the data cell formatting are carried
through to the chart. When you paste the chart into another product,
the connection with that formatting is apparently broken and the
labels relax into some default formatting. If this is your problem,
there appear to be two simple ways to solve it.

 1. (Not recommended)
Enter your year values as text instead of genuine dates. Format the
cells as Text before entering the values. The values will be
incorporated into the chart as plain text and there should be no
change when you copy and paste the chart elsewhere.

 2. (Recommended)
Format the year values explicitly in the chart instead of allowing
the formatting to be inherited from the data values.
o Keep your data as genuine dates. Don't worry too much about what
 date format they have.
 o Create the chart.
o Double-click the chart - so you see the grey border.
o Double-click the x-axis to bring up the x-Axis dialogue.
 o Select the Numbers tab.
o Remove the tick from Source format to break the inheritance of
 date formatting.
o Select your preferred format for your x-axis years.
o Copy the chart into your other application to test.

Now that I have seen your spreadsheet document, I can see what is
happening - though I don't know why it should. The solution is in any
 case as above.

Your year values in the data cells are neither text nor dates (in the
spreadsheet sense) but numbers; there is nothing wrong with that. The
formatting in your original chart is inherited from that data. So far
so good. For reasons I don't understand, when you copy that chart -
and break the format inheritance - the numbers are reinterpreted as
if they are dates. Spreadsheet dates are saved as numbers of days
from a start date, which by default is 30 December 1899. So your
values of 2004 to 2015 (as numbers) are reinterpreted as
two-thousand-odd days after this date - that is, 26 June to 7 July
1905. As I say, I can see exactly what is happening but I don't know
 why it should.

The solution, anyway, is easy: just break the inheritance of
formatting *in the original chart*, as described above. Remove the
tick from Source format and select Text formatting. Then your
 revised chart will copy faithfully.

 I trust this helps.

Are you sure you have a table and not a section?

... and won't get out of that format!

If you have sections, go to Format | Sections..., select each section
in turn in the panel on the left, and click Remove.

It won't let me enlarge the text.

You should be able to enlarge text even in a table cell. If the
problem is that the enlarged text will not display completely in a
table cell, you need to enlarge the row height. Go to Table |
Autofit | Optimal Row Height or to Table | Autofit | Row
Height... and choose a new height or click Fit to size.
Alternatively, you can reach the same facilities by right-clicking
the row and selecting Row from the context menu.

I tried clearing it and starting over several times. I have had this
problem before using english text as well.

But you can forget all the above if you do things the easy way! When
you paste in the material, use Edit | Paste Special... (or
Ctrl+Shift+V) instead of ordinary Paste. In the Paste Special
dialogue, select Unformatted text.

Note that one possibility is that what you are copying is not text at
all but a picture of some text. In that case you won't be able to
edit it as text in OpenOffice (or anywhere else). You should be able
to drag the corner of the picture to enlarge it, but the resolution
will degrade as you do so. If what you end up with is unsuitable for
the use to which you wish to put it, you will need to source a higher
resolution graphic in the first place.

I trust this helps.

what do you mean by 'goes into tables'? and which application are you copying

after all, why not type the sentence manually if it is short? if you have no

It copies and pastes just fine but automatically goes into Tables and won't
get out of that format!  It won't let me enlarge the text.  I tried clearing
it and starting over several times.  I have had this problem before using
 english text as well.

It is frequently the case that pastes from web sites into Writer show the table
structure used for better layout of the web pages. You can overcome this by
using /Edit /Paste Special and choosing Unformatted text from the offering.
You may have to apply any desired formatting after pasting.

If you are unsure what to do with this, can you shoot me a copy of the
document off list. Understand that I do not read Arabic, so do not
expect me to read it, but, I can inspect the document if you like.

Copy/Paste Issue

2014-06-18 Thread Krista . Ranglack
Good Morning!

My users seem to be having some troubles with the copy/paste functions in
OpenOffice 4.1 Calc. We recently upgraded our systems to Windows 7 (some
are still on XP) - it is the WIN7 users experiencing these issues. I have
ruled out the OS as the issue. I did so, by running a clipboard viewer as
the users were copy/pasting, and the clipboard received the correct data,
but Calc did not. The users copy data from another application (which has
been ruled out as well as the issue), then they paste the data in the Calc
spreadsheet. So for example, the user copies the word cat, its pastes
fine in Clac, then the user copies the word dog, and it still pastes
cat, even though the clipboard shows dog as the last and most recent
item copied. The users have used the keyboard shortcuts for this, as well
as right-clicking and selecting the appropriate commands. I have been over
many forums on this issue, and have seen several people also complaining
about this same issue. I can provide more information about our network
environment if that helps you? Not sure what other information you require
though.

The issue has been on-going for about a month now - and I have yet to
resolve this myself. Hence, why I am turning to your support now for
further assistance. I am happy to also set up a remote session with you as
well to one of the users experiencing this issue to demonstrate this
issue.

Is there anything you could suggest/offer in resolution to this issue?
Please advise.

Regards,

is it possible to disable the clipboard's queueing functionality through
windows' control panel or the application's preferences? the feature may be
local to ms office (or wherever you are copying from) and not work outside it.

We need to know more about your situation -- OS, etc.

Currently, the only outstanding issue I see with copy and paste in Calc
concerns copy and pasting of drawing objects.
