Re: [Users] Unable to Adding Local host issue
This is what works for me: Edit: /usr/share/ovirt-engine/scripts/plugins/ all_in_one_100.py file and edit the waitForHostUp function so that the timeout is bigger. Like this: def waitForHostUp(): utils.retry(isHostUp, tries=40, timeout=300, sleep=5) In the all-in-one howto jbrooks says that step is not fatal but it was for me, the trick above did work for me. Take into account that you probably have to run: engine-cleanup before running engine-setup and that the commands might delete previous customisations if you have ever done anyone. - Mensaje original - De: Johnny Tao johnnybeij...@gmail.com Para: users@ovirt.org Enviados: Jueves, 13 de Diciembre 2012 10:52:11 Asunto: [Users] Unable to Adding Local host issue Hi, All I have been experienced an issue on my oVirt installation which failed on this step, Installing: AIO: Validating CPU Compatibility... [Users] web gui and bonded nic changes
I hit a snag last night. I needed to remove a nic from a host bond in ovirtmanage to create a new bridge line for user access to VMs. The process hung the box and I had to go put hands on the physical console (more reason to get the ipmi network setup!). The error message was can't add eth3 to bond. already bonded (or close). It seems the only way to remove a nic from a bond is to unload the bonding module. Apparently the ovirt process doesn't call a modprobe -r bonding during a network reset on the managed hosts. stop network, unload bonding, start network worked fine from the console. -- -- James P. today i just saw for the first time Clusters – General: Edit Policy button. i changed it from nothing to balanced. googling, it seems that this is for CPU load amongst the hosts to balance the CPU load of VMs. the reason I'm asking is, my test environment is 3 hosts, and 2 of them are leveled up to above 75% memory usage (both of them complaining on the events console), and nothing migrating to the 3rd node which currently has 0 VMs. do i have something incorrectly configured? i was under the assumption that migrations would happen automatically when host resourced were nearing max (i assumed this was either CPU or memory)? on my cluster, i checked the setting for memory optimization for servers. is there anything else? am i not properly understanding the migration theory? my guide link in the upper right does not hyperlink to any docs, so I'm left to google and i have not found much so far. thanks for any advice, jonathan This is a PRIVATE message. ok, so moments after i sent that question, i finally stumble onto the RHEV documentation, and it states that the setting is for CPU load, and you specify what % and how many minutes its allowed to stay that way before no new VMs are allowed to start on the host. but still leaves the question, what about memory resources and how are they governed as far as automatic migrations go? thanks, jonathan From: Jonathan Horne jho...@skopos.usmailto:jho...@skopos.us Date: Thursday, December 13, 2012 9:18 AM To: users@ovirt.orgmailto:users@ovirt.org users@ovirt.orgmailto:users@ovirt.org Subject: [Users] General: Edit Policy today i just saw for the first time Clusters – General: Edit Policy button. i changed it from nothing to balanced. googling, it seems that this is for CPU load amongst the hosts to balance the CPU load of VMs. the reason I'm asking is, my test environment is 3 hosts, and 2 of them are leveled up to above 75% memory usage (both of them complaining on the events console), and nothing migrating to the 3rd node which currently has 0 VMs. do i have something incorrectly configured? i was under the assumption that migrations would happen automatically when host resourced were nearing max (i assumed this was either CPU or memory)? on my cluster, i checked the setting for memory optimization for servers. is there anything else? am i not properly understanding the migration theory? my guide link in the upper right does not hyperlink to any docs, so I'm left to google and i have not found much so far. thanks for any advice, jonathan This is a PRIVATE message. Oh, OK, thanks for the info. So I answered properly :) Let's see if we'll find out something from the /proc/cpuinfo. It looks very similar to those issues mentioned on the libvirt wiki [1] and others often discussed, so I'm fairly sure that'll be the issue. Hi Jonathan, Indeed this works for memory overcommitment. A ssuming you have ksm running on your hosts , it should share memory pages allowing you to do memory overcommitment. Note that currently oVirt has an indication for each host if it has shared pages or not, and the relevant percentage (Click a host, watch the General sub-tab: Memory Page Sharing and Shared Memory). WRT doing mistakes, we're planning to improve it in the future. but for now, if your sharing is poor, the host may start swapping the guests which is not good performance-wise. I suggest you give it a try, and watch the statistics, as each OS has its own memory behavior. Let me know if you have more questions. Re: [Users] guest agent
hi, I am currently in the process of preparing the ovirt-guest-agent for F17 package review, so it can be included in the distribution. In the meantime you can use the repository as mentioned by Jason. The qemu-guest-agent is not the same thing. The qemu guest agent comes with just a little of the features the ovirt-guest-agent currently provides, even though they are duplicating features, such as hibernation (S3,S4) support and things like shutdown initiated by the OS through the respective guest agent. The ovirt-guest-agent is providing also additional information to the web admin portal, such as current IP, logged in user, memory consumption etc. Also it provides the ability to implement a feature called 'Single Sign On' so that you can enter your user/password combination only once in the user portal login and once you have opened the guest os spice session you get automatically logged in to the guest system.
