AFAIU rdp is not supported directly, in the same way vnc/spice are.
Rather, you configure it on your Windows guest as usual, and there is
some integration with the guest agent, to provide single-sign-on or
something like that.

The cluster was setup by ovirt, and running. So ovirt might have forgotten to

[ovirt-users] Cannot add new users via api after AAA migration

2016-04-18 Thread Karli Sjöberg
Hi!

A little background:
https://www.mail-archive.com/users@ovirt.org/msg31815.html

Trying to add new user from webadmin gives:
2016-04-18 12:19:14,448 INFO  [org.ovirt.engine.core.bll.aaa.AddUserCommand]
(default task-10) [53227bd6] Running command: AddUserCommand internal: false.
Entities affected :  ID: aaa0----123456789aaa Type:
SystemAction group MANIPULATE_USERS with role type ADMIN
2016-04-18 12:19:14,466 INFO
[org.ovirt.engine.core.dal.dbbroker.auditloghandling.AuditLogDirector] (default
task-10) [53227bd6] Correlation ID: 53227bd6, Call Stack: null, Custom Event
ID: -1, Message: User 'firstname.lastn...@foo.bar' was added successfully to
the system.

The user is then found as 'firstname.lastn...@foo.bar@baz.foo.bar'
under Users tab. Also possible to find user with api:
https://engine-address.foo.bar/ovirt-engine/api/users?search=Firstname
...
firstname.lastn...@foo.bar@baz.foo.bar
...

But removing the user and trying to add it again with e.g. Python
fails:

status: 404
reason: Not Found
detail: Entity not found: adu...@baz.foo.bar::
username=firstname.lastn...@foo.bar

The code, previously working with the now deprecated engine-manage-
domains, except PRINCIPAL_NAME was just SAM_ACCOUNT_NAME without
SUFFIX:

DOMAIN_NAME = 'baz.foo.bar'
SUFFIX = '@foo.bar'

try:
domain = api.domains.get(name='%s' % (DOMAIN_NAME))
userparams = params.User()
userparams.set_user_name('%s%s' % (PRINCIPAL_NAME,SUFFIX))
userparams.set_domain(domain)
api.users.add(userparams)
except Exception as e:
print e

Also tried with SUFFIX = '@foo@baz.foo.bar', as that´s what the
user is called after creation, fails as well.

Am I "holding it wrong" or is this a bug?

Re: [ovirt-users] Users Digest, Vol 55, Issue 124

2016-04-18 Thread Charles Tassell

Hi Nick,

Try running "ls -l
/rhev/data-center/0001-0001-0001-0001-037d/88dfff37-4ad5-446c-a957-1cf67829c9a6/images/da93350c-8926-42bf-99fa-8a7aca043fcd/22e7803d-e266-4e3e-ae34-0181f8acef8b"
and check the ownership of the file. It should be owned by vdsm:kvm (or
user and group 36:36 I think) Another thing to check would be that the
parent directories are accessible. Try running "sudo -s /bin/bash vdsm"
and then "cd
/rhev/data-center/0001-0001-0001-0001-037d/88dfff37-4ad5-446c-a957-1cf67829c9a6/images"
to make sure you can access all the parent folders. If you can, try
creating a temp file ("echo hello >hello") in that same directory to
make sure that the iSCSI mount hasn't gone read only.

If none of that helps, I'd say take a look at the output of vgdisplay to
make sure that the volume group still has free physical extents (Free
PE/Size near the bottom) If you are using thin provisioning that might
be an issue.

This is all based on the issue being disk permission errors. It might
be an error with the libvirt authentication, but I have no idea how to
diagnose that.

[ovirt-users] Disks Illegal State

2016-04-18 Thread Clint Boggio
OVirt 3.6, 4 node cluster with dedicated engine. Main storage domain is iscsi,
ISO and Export domains are NFS.

Several of my VM snapshot disks show to be in an "illegal state". The system
will not allow me to manipulate the snapshots in any way, nor clone the active
system, or create a new snapshot.

In the logs I see that the system complains about not being able to "get volume
size for xxx", and also that the system appears to believe that the image is
"locked" and is currently in the snapshot process.

Of the VM's with this status, one rebooted and was lost due to "cannot get
volume size for domain xxx".

I fear that in this current condition, should any of the other machine reboot,
they too will be lost.

How can I troubleshoot this problem further, and hopefully alleviate the
condition ?

Thank you for your help.

I've experienced a similar thing before and referred to this [1]
comment on BZ1302215 to help me out. Followed those steps and my
issue was resolved. I'm still not aware of the root cause of this
problem though.

Hi Clint,

for us the problem always boils down to the following steps. Might be simpler
as we use
NFS for all of our domains and have direct access to the image files.

1) Check if snapshot disks are currently used. Capture the qemu command line
with a "ps -ef"
on the nodes. There you can see what images qemu is started with. For each of
the files check
the backing chain:

# qemu-img info /rhev/.../bbd05dd8-c3bf-4d15-9317-73040e04abae
image: bbd05dd8-c3bf-4d15-9317-73040e04abae
file format: qcow2
virtual size: 50G (53687091200 bytes)
disk size: 133M
cluster_size: 65536
backing file:
../f8ebfb39-2ac6-4b87-b193-4204d1854edc/595b95f4-ce1a-4298-bd27-3f6745ae4e4c
backing file format: raw
Format specific information:
compat: 0.10

# qemu-img info .../595b95f4-ce1a-4298-bd27-3f6745ae4e4c (see above)
...

I don't know how you can accomplish this on ISCSI (and LVM based images inside
iirc). We
usually follow the backing chain and test if all the files exist and are linked
correctly. Especially
if everything matches the OVirt GUI. I guess this is the most important part
for you.

2) In most of our cases everything is fine and only the OVirt database is
wrong. So we fix it
at our own risk. Because of your explanation I do not recommend that for you.
It is just for
documentation purpose.

Restart engine and everything should be in sync again.

Possibly, but where would I check? I'm logged in to ovirt web GUI as

But removing the user and trying to add it again with e.g. Python

The code, previously working with the now deprecated engine-manage-

try:

 userparams.set_domain(domain)

Please set ^ here also:

userparams.set_principal('%s%s' % (PRINCIPAL_NAME,SUFFIX))

in principal you should set proper UPN of user.

 api.users.add(userparams)

Also tried with SUFFIX = '@foo@baz.foo.bar', as that´s what the

Am I "holding it wrong" or is this a bug?

You essentially need to:

  * configure Windows to enable and allow RDP
  * make sure that your network can route connection from your
client system to the VM (and firewalls along the route permit
you to do so)

Now you're able to connect to your VM but you have to obtain the
connection information yourself. In order to make oVirt ungray the RDP
option, you additionally need to install and start oVirt guest agent so
that ovirt-engine can learn name/IP of the VM - as indicated in link by
Yair.

BTW did you actually _try_ spice? It's true that it needs larger
bandwidth on the slow links. In spite of that, there are some cases
where it can give better UX than RDP.

Best Regards,

David

Re: [ovirt-users] vhostmd vdsm-hook

2016-04-18 Thread Arsène Gschwind

Hi Simon,

You will need to have vhostmd running on the oVirt node and set the
"sap_agent" custom property for the vm as you may see on the screenshot.

sap_agent

The part I’m stuck on is: “This disk image is exported read-only to
guests. Guests can read the disk image to see metrics” from
http://www.ovirt.org/develop/developer-guide/vdsm/hook/vhostmd/

Does the hook do this by default? I don’t see any new read-only device
mounted in the guest. Is there additional work I need to do to mount
this and access the data from within the guest?

Many thanks,

Simon

Re: [ovirt-users] Delete Failed to update OVF disks, OVF data isn't updated on those OVF stores (Data Center Default, Storage Domain hostedengine_nfs).

2016-04-18 Thread Paul Groeneweg | Pazion
I am still wondering about the OVF disk ( and event error ) on my hosted
storage domain.

My hostedstorage ovf disks ( http://screencast.com/t/AcdqmJWee ) are not
being updated ( what I understood is they should be regularly updated ).

So I wonder, maybe I can remove these OVF disks and they are recreated
automatically? ( Similar when removing the hosted storage domain it was
added automatically again )

And for this NFS storage domain, is it normal to have 2 OVF disks?

Really looking for a way get these OVF disks right.

Can you please update whether the upgrade for 3.6.4 has helped.
Regarding the OVF_STORE disks, those disks should not be deleted

We're seeing this in RHEV 3.5 with snapshot management on VMs with multiple
disks. It would be awesome to have a "fsck" type script that could be run
daily which reports on any problems with the snapshot disks.

[ovirt-users] upgrading hardware node

2016-04-18 Thread Bill James

I already upgraded ovirt management engine from 3.6.3 to 3.6.4.
Now I want to upgrade the hardware nodes.
I see there is a "Upgrade" button on the Hosts tab but I have not found
any way to make it enabled.

Even with host in maintenance it still is disabled.

How do I get that to work?
I'm sure I could just run yum update, but aren't you suppose to be able
to do it in the GUI?

Thanks.

[ovirt-users] Fwd: [Gluster-users] Kudos to All

2016-04-18 Thread Sahina Bose

Hi all!

I thought this testimonial worth sharing, as many ovirt users have posed
questions on how gluster fits as a backend for VM store. Below comments
are from a user who's on gluster 3.7.9 with sharding enabled on the
gluster volume. You can follow thread here -
https://www.mail-archive.com/gluster-users@gluster.org/msg24467.html

Hi developers, didn't want to be whiny all the time re possible issues
:) and to congratulate you on the 3.7.x release - its come a long way
since the 3.5 range I initially looked at and I really appreciate the
attention to details for VM hosting environments.

The chunking really works and makes a big difference to handling the
relatively small number of very large files on a VM hosting, it makes a
big difference to server reboots. I've found performance, both raw and
IOPS to be much better than any other clustered filesystems I've tried.
I can launch 12 VM simultaneously on my relatively limited hardware with
iowaits remaining below 7%, under previous setups on the same hardware
it was brought to its knees.

Management tools and documentation still a little quirky :) but the
community is good and once you know your way round the system it is
pretty straightforward. I very much appreciate that gluster plays well
with ZFS as its host file system, I think they are a perfect match.

Overall I think that gluster is a great match for the small to large
business and I appreciate the can do attitude behind the team.

Spent this weekend fine tuning and benchmarking a volume, found what I
think is the sweet spot for us and have started a production trial -
moved 2 developers (including myself), 2 support guys and one
receptionist to it (12 VM's total). I'll let you know if I still feel
the same by the end of the week :)

Cheers,
