We would try to make this work via setupNetworks.
If we fail to do this on time, we would do the necessary changes all
over the stack to make it happen via addNetwork.

[Users] VDSM errors on fedora17

2012-06-06 Thread ovirt
VDSM from http://www.ovirt.org/releases/beta/fedora/17/ gitf093e0

VDSM started and working but

1. after start there was error in vdsm.log

MainThread::ERROR::2012-06-07
10:05:23,883::clientIF::151::vds::(_prepareBindings) Unable to load the rest
server module. Please make sure it is installed.

What modules I must install?

2. I got such warnings

Thread-18::WARNING::2012-06-07
10:05:30,219::lvm::353::Storage.LVM::(_reloadvgs) lvm vgs failed: 5 [] ['

but d2221cee-7146-4197-aecf-0dfad32b54ea is my ISO/NFS domain, why vdsm try to
use it as data storage domain? (data storage is working correctly and
d2221cee-7146-4197-aecf-0dfad32b54ea is mounted under /rhev/data-center/mnt/ )

correct, i believe ovirt-cli has all you looking for, /console/ interface for
vm and scripting capabilities, for more details see [1],

Production grade and very long lifecycles - sounds like you need to look at the
downstream product of oVirt - RHEV

[Users] Getting ovirt to update VMs to "Up" state sooner

2012-06-06 Thread Andrey F.
Hi everybody,

We are trying to optimize our continuous integration system around our
ovirt-management software (i.e. we call into the ovirt apis to create VMs,
do funny stuff with the VMs, etc.). For our tests, we deployed a VM that
boots extremely quickly (2 seconds) in hoping to speed up our tests.
Unfortunately, ovirt is not updating the state of the VM to "Up" as fast as
we'd like. VDSM show the following in the logs:

Thread-420807::DEBUG::2012-06-06 22:14:47,662::clientIF::54::vds::(wrapper)

This repeats for about a minute until the VM is finally marked "Up". Is
there any trick we can do to get ovirt to mark the VM "Up" quicker? Perhaps
generate some sort of activity on the VM?

on ovirt node you need to persist the file for it to remain post boot

Yep I know. I tired to work around the issue by creating a fedora VM

1339005616 INFO [11312:11312] Application::main: starting 0.8.3

That suggest to me that spicec wants a real frame buffer not a virtual

console to a VM? That is why I am looking for a script something that
can be run external of ovirt that can set a password and give them a URL

1 b) the XPI plugin is linux-only (and effectively firefox-only but I
think that patches for Chrome/Webkit compatibility will be welcome)

Works fine under Fedora inside a virtualbox VM. So I am guessing it
works fine in a bare metal install.

2) for Ubuntu, you'd need at least first of these two geting merged in
Debian and then wait half year for Ubuntu to leech it:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=667565
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=668284
(the second is technically not necessary but given that spicec is being

Alternatively, you could get spice-xpi for ubuntu from PPAs.

Please send me a link to a working PPA for ubuntu? I have tried

Trust me I have read up on the issue unless everyone in my group wants
to keep a fedora VM to access the console on there system there doesn't
seem to be a way for an admin to console to a VM currently. This will
change at some point but until there is a workaround available for
windows users or users of other distro's then Red Hat based ones oVirt
isn't really usable.

That is why I am asking if anyone has created a script I can use.
Something that will allow me to run select a VM and have it assign
assign a password and display a URL that can be copied / pasted into
either virt-viewer or vnc. I have seen piece of it in the various
lists. Suggesting that something could be done using the rest, sdk, or
cli api's.

I have seen some info on getting VNC to work but nothing organized and I
would lose all spice support if I did but getting VNC to work is a
possibility's. Although my preference would be something still using
spice so spice-xpi would continue to work and over time the need for the
hack would reduce and more OS's gain support.

So that brings me back to my original question. Does anyone have a
scripts or at least a string of commands I can tie together to spit out
a URL I can use to connect using Virt-Viewer preferred or something for VNC.

michael - i remember CLI supports this?
Robert - very (very) preliminary, you can look at spice.html5

Yep I know. I tired to work around the issue by creating a fedora VM
for people to VNC to however spicec aborts with the following error.

1339005616 INFO [11312:11312] Application::main: starting 0.8.3
1339005616 ERROR [11312:11312] main: unhandled exception: Unsupported
visual for screen

That suggest to me that spicec wants a real frame buffer not a virtual
one. I am really open to suggestions for windows users to be able to
console to a VM? That is why I am looking for a script something that
can be run external of ovirt that can set a password and give them a URL
that can be used by VNC or virt-viewer?

Works fine under Fedora inside a virtualbox VM. So I am guessing it
works fine in a bare metal install.

Please send me a link to a working PPA for ubuntu? I have tried
https://launchpad.net/~jasonbrooks/+archive/ppa under both 11.10 and
12.04 under both 32bit and 64bit Versions and both just error out. Sent
the Aurthur an email reporting the issue and never heard back.

Thanks
Robert

Re: [Users] Rebooting node causes re-arrange of nic

2012-06-06 Thread eppe

After a couple of reboots ( too "cycle" trough the nics ) my
configuration was correct, my etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-* files where
all in order.
( with correct mac address )
But this file dont excist on any of my nodes:
/etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules

So i generated it with :
echo add > /sys/class/net/eth0/uevent
echo add > /sys/class/net/eth1/uevent
echo add > /sys/class/net/eth2/uevent

Reboot no difference. Tried: mount -o rw,remount / before all the
changes
also on my second run..
But the change is not persistent. Anything special i need to do to keep
this file? /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules

Thanks for your time :)

since this patch[1] you can get the connection details (password) to
open a VNC console to a guest from UI.

you can also use API/SDK to set the ticket from cli, then launch it.
the ovirt cli has some builtin command for it, but not sure someone
tried it on windows yet (it is python based)

do you mean this works using setupNetworks, or the old api should be used?
since i'm pretty sure engine needs to be changed to be told to use the
old API for a 3.1 cluster.

2012-06-06 Thread David Jaša
Hi Robert,

This is a problem:

1 a) the active x plugin for windows/ie is not yet released.

1 b) the XPI plugin is linux-only (and effectively firefox-only but I
think that patches for Chrome/Webkit compatibility will be welcome)

2) for Ubuntu, you'd need at least first of these two geting merged in
Debian and then wait half year for Ubuntu to leech it:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=667565
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=668284
(the second is technically not necessary but given that spicec is being
discontinued and all the development takes there...)

Alternatively, you could get spice-xpi for ubuntu from PPAs.

Can I safely upgrade qemu[-kvm] on CentOS 6.2? It has 0.12.1.2, can I just
rebuild some 0.15 package (for example, from F16 src.rpm) and will it work
(having in mind that CentOS has an older 2.6.32 kernel)?

It smells like a qemu-kvm issue, which an ovirt upgrade would not solve.
You could contact qemu-devel, armed with the qemu version, its endless

2012-06-06 Thread Dael Maselli

I'm sorry, I don't want to be polemical. I know about the wonderful work
of dreyou, but I'm asking for something more "official" now.

I need something in which I can reasonably trust along years, something
like what happens for "389 Directory Server" for example.

oVirt instead is officially released only for Fedora, that has very
short upgrade cycle, and I can't imagine to upgrade my production
servers every 6 months.

I hope, and I think many will agree, that you will consider to add
"RedHat and derivates" to the list of supported OS.

Thank you very much.

Best regards,

[Users] oVirt 3.1 Feature Freeze is TOMORROW (June 7th)

2012-06-06 Thread Ofer Schreiber
Almost 4 month after oVirt's first release, we're one step closer to the next
version.

The Feature Freeze is scheduled for tomorrow, June 7th, and shortly after that,
new "beta" builds should be uploaded into http://ovirt.org:/releases/beta

Currently, http://ovirt.org:/releases/beta/fedora/17 is populated with "alpha"
builds of oVirt. Feel free to test them, and share with us your feedback.

Make sure the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-* files have the mac
addresses for your nics in the order you want them in. If they do they
it should keep the order upon reboot.

in this example you have used equals, i.e ovirt engine was guided to find
vm with name 'a', to find vms where name starting with 'a', use "name=a*" query,
to find all vms contains "a" in their names, use "name=*a*" query, for more
examples

vmnames = api.vms.list(query = 'name=a')
for vm in vmnames:
print vm.name

what was the output?

print vmnames.name

Sorry, you first need to iterate on what you got:
for vm in vmnames:
print vm.name

==

Print output is,

I was expecting a list of VMs which contains "a" in their names.

Am I doing it correct? Can someone guide me with a small example?

Stateless VMs are VMs that once shut down, all the information you stored there
/ configuration changes you made, will be lost.
It is useful mostly for testing purposes, temporary usage, provide services to
people and etc.

  No.

Oved I would also like to add that maybe its worth to get the XML of
the
configuration of the snapshot.
This information is stored as "text" under the vm_configuration
column
of "snapshots" table.
You will always have an "active" snapshot - this is not the snapshot
you're interested at, simply query the snapshots table according to
the
snapshot description, and you will have the OVF that describes the VM
when the snapshot was created.
I wonder if the OVF is correctly kept at the snapshot (just
suggesting
another point of investigation)

I would also like to add that maybe its worth to get the XML of the
configuration of the snapshot.

Hi Again

I just defined new server on Ovirt admin portal. I think define
monitor is for desktop virtualization. is it true?

I switched more than two time between spice and vnc. do you think
switching between vnc and spice is the reason for this problem?
And
did the problem occur?
Trying to reproduce it now and I can't, although I seem to have
some
VMs with more than one monitor in the vm_device table, but all
have
this property set to 1.
I'll update you in case I understand the reason. If you have a
solid
reproduction then please share it.

Thank you,

I'm going to delete extra video card. but it's very interesting
for
me to know about reason of this problem.

Thanks

Thanks. But i didn't add 3 video card! why there is 3 video
card?is
it bug? Basically the number of devices should grow or shrink,
according to the number of monitors you choose in the VM
properties.
If it has more then it is a bug.
I'll take a look at it.

can you please explain more about how can i fix this problem? i
must
go to the database and then i leave the address as is? i don't
understand last your sentence.
Thanks for you attention. Thinking of it, if you don't want 3
devices
you can just delete two of the three video controllers in order to
workaround the issue.
In order to do that you'll have to do the following in the
database:
1. Find the vm_id of your VM. You can do that by looking at the
vm_static table.
2. Then, in the vm_device table, find the video devices.
3. Delete two of the three devices.

Let me know if you need more help.

2012-06-06 Thread Nathanaël Blanchet

hello,

I found the origin of the issue: the repository
/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/vdsm(/utils.py) is not installed by the
stable release. I created rpm from the git repository on a f17 host and
copied manually it to the f16 host and it works fine now.

I'll ask to the vdsm team which package must provides this directory.
Thanks for your help.

vdsm-hook-directlun-4.9.6-0.268.gitfc9e104.fc17.noarch.rpm to the
host with vdsm 4.9.3.2. According to the logs, issues about "from
vdsm import utils" are the same.
I guess it must exist a way to make those scripts work with 4.9.3.2
because those scripts have been written before this first ovirt
release had been available.
Plus, vmdisk works fine but scripts invoking "from vdsm import utils" don't.

Do you have any idea?

No,
You can try asking in vdsm mailing list: vdsm-de...@ovirt.org

you need to make rpm that will install the scripts properly with the right
permissions and other files.
like that:
$ ./autogen.sh --system --enable-hooks
$ make rpm

the hook works great and I'm able now to attach a file device as a

source = domxml.createElement('source')
source.setAttribute('file', devpath)

boot = domxml.createElement('boot')
boot.setAttribute('order', 1)

Thanks for your help

Hi,
1. try to change the number to string:
 boot.setAttribute('order', '1')
2. you have a libvirt log at /var/log/libvirt/qemu/youvmname.log
3. when the script enumerate all the disks you need to change the other disk
boot order:
for d in xmldisks:
  # here look in each disk for boot element and change its order attribute
  # to other number, ie 2, 3 ...

The vdsm package you are importing from is rather new and did not exist
in vdsm-4.9.3.2. You should probably use the hooks from
http://gerrit.ovirt.org/gitweb?p=vdsm.git;a=tree;f=vdsm_hooks;hb=v4.9.3.2
when vdsm-4.9.3.2 is installed.

Re: [Users] Ovirt - double use of PCI Address

2012-06-06 Thread Oved Ourfalli
Fix is now merged upstream:
http://gerrit.ovirt.org/gitweb?p=ovirt-engine.git;a=commit;h=242636a161a1f7ee44bfad2f9a80002b589b685e

I verified it on my environment, testing both snapshots and pools.

I guess that old VMs you have, that are part of a pool, or were restored from
snapshots, can be damaged (as not only the monitors were duplicated, but all
the other devices as well, besides disks).

Thank you for helping us find the problem,
Oved
