[Users] Getting ovirt to update VMs to "Up" state sooner
Hi everybody, We are trying to optimize our continuous integration system around our ovirt-management software (i.e. we call into the ovirt apis to create VMs, do funny stuff with the VMs, etc.). For our tests, we deployed a VM that boots extremely quickly (2 seconds) in hoping to speed up our tests. Unfortunately, ovirt is not updating the state of the VM to "Up" as fast as we'd like. VDSM show the following in the logs: Thread-420807::DEBUG::2012-06-06 22:14:47,662::clientIF::54::vds::(wrapper) [10.225.52.7]::call *getVmStats *with ('e3b250c9-a5ca-42da-bd8f-245a3ef4bbfb',) {} Thread-420807::DEBUG::2012-06-06 22:14:47,663::libvirtvm::222::vm.Vm::(_getDiskStats) vmId=`e3b250c9-a5ca-42da-bd8f-245a3ef4bbfb`::*Disk stats not available *Thread-420807::DEBUG::2012-06-06 22:14:47,663::libvirtvm::251::vm.Vm::(_getDiskLatency) vmId=`e3b250c9-a5ca-42da-bd8f-245a3ef4bbfb`::*Disk latency not available *Thread-420807::DEBUG::2012-06-06 22:14:47,663::clientIF::59::vds::(wrapper) return getVmStats with {'status': {'message': 'Done', 'code': 0}, 'statsList': [{'status': 'Up', 'username': 'Unknown', 'memUsage': '0', 'acpiEnable': 'tru e', 'pid': '32299', 'displayIp': '0', 'displayPort': u'5900', 'session': 'Unknown', 'displaySecurePort': u'5901', 'cdrom': '/rhev/data-center/c861891c-7011-4209-9871-73c4b4e42560/b1ad8b2c-d2e1-479b-be2e-90fcbe446e86/images/ ----/CorePlus-current.iso', 'pauseCode': 'NOERR', 'clientIp': '', 'kvmEnable': 'true', 'network': {u'vnet0': {'macAddr': u'00:1a:4a:a8:7a:50', 'rxDropped': '0', 'rxErrors': '0', 'txDropped': '0', 'txRate': ' 0.0', 'rxRate': '0.0', 'txErrors': '0', 'state': 'unknown', 'speed': '1000', 'name': u'vnet0'}}, 'vmId': 'e3b250c9-a5ca-42da-bd8f-245a3ef4bbfb', 'monitorResponse': '0', 'cpuUser': '0.00', 'disks': {u'vda': {'readLatency': '0', 'app arentsize': '1073741824', 'writeLatency': '0', 'imageID': '38ffdd23-e16d-4cde-a384-3290450fe87f', 'flushLatency': '0', 'truesize': '1073741824'}}, 'boot': 'c', 'statsAge': '1.81', 'cpuIdle': '100.00', 'elapsedTime': '61', 'vmType': 'kvm', 'cpuSys': '0.00', 'timeOffset': '0', 'appsList': [], 'guestIPs': '', 'displayType': 'qxl', 'nice': ''}]} This repeats for about a minute until the VM is finally marked "Up". Re: [Users] Rebooting node causes re-arrange of nic
After a couple of reboots ( too "cycle" trough the nics ) my configuration was correct, my etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-* files where all in order. ( with correct mac address ) But this file dont excist on any of my nodes: /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules So i generated it with : echo add > /sys/class/net/eth0/uevent echo add > /sys/class/net/eth1/uevent echo add > /sys/class/net/eth2/uevent Reboot no difference. Tried: mount -o rw,remount / before all the changes also on my second run.. But the change is not persistent. Anything special i need to do to keep this file? /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules Thanks for your time :) -Espen ___ Users mailing list Users@ovirt.org http://lists.ovirt.org/mailman/listinfo/users

Re: [Users] Has anyone got a working script that could allow me to get a URL to connect to using virt-viewer under windows or for setting up vnc.
Hi Robert, This is a problem: 1 a) the active x plugin for windows/ie is not yet released. 1 b) the XPI plugin is linux-only (and effectively firefox-only but I think that patches for Chrome/Webkit compatibility will be welcome) 2) for Ubuntu, you'd need at least first of these two geting merged in Debian and then wait half year for Ubuntu to leech it: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=667565 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=668284 (the second is technically not necessary but given that spicec is being discontinued and all the development takes there...) Alternatively, you could get spice-xpi for ubuntu from PPAs. David Robert Middleswarth píše v St 06. 06. 2012 v 14:50 -0400: > I like spice under Fedora but most of my users use windows. Re: [Users] oVirt RPM for RHEL & Co.
I'm sorry, I don't want to be polemical. I know about the wonderful work of dreyou, but I'm asking for something more "official" now. I need something in which I can reasonably trust along years, something like what happens for "389 Directory Server" for example. oVirt instead is officially released only for Fedora, that has very short upgrade cycle, and I can't imagine to upgrade my production servers every 6 months. I hope, and I think many will agree, that you will consider to add "RedHat and derivates" to the list of supported OS. Thank you very much. Best regards, Dael Maselli. This information is stored as "text" under the vm_configuration column of "snapshots" table. You will always have an "active" snapshot - this is not the snapshot you're interested at, simply query the snapshots table according to the snapshot description, and you will have the OVF that describes the VM when the snapshot was created. Thanks for answering, all is logical now we found the reason. I think there is a lack of documentation about the hook scripts while there are very useful in my case, waiting for engine implementation in ovirt 3.1. I would have never found the good gerrit link without your help. How can I get a tree of an old version except by directly adding hb=v4.9.3.2 instead of hb=HEAD in the url? Thanks. we should help each other in open source product. I'm trying to work with Ovirt everyday and if i find new problem or bug, i'll send it to lists. I didn't define any pool. as default pool is exist? i make snapshot from my VM and then create new clone based on snapshot. then i try to start new vm. it failed with double of pci address.then i removed new clone VM. then i try to start old VM (that i created snapshot from it) . but i saw it failed too! then i sent email to this lists and you helped me to solve this problem. thanks. This information is stored as "text" under the vm_configuration column of "snapshots" table. You will always have an "active" snapshot - this is not the snapshot you're interested at, simply query the snapshots table according to the snapshot description, and you will have the OVF that describes the VM when the snapshot was created. hello, I found the origin of the issue: the repository /usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/vdsm(/utils.py) is not installed by the stable release. I created rpm from the git repository on a f17 host and copied manually it to the f16 host and it works fine now. I'll ask to the vdsm team which package must provides this directory.
