The actual operation of creating host is taking time. I believe we've handled
its timeout before, but it is possible that our waiting period is still too
short.

I will look into this.

 Hi.

I tried to install ovirt 3.1 on clean F17 hosts. I tried
 all-in-one
and plain manager + node installation, but every time host is just
 non-responsive.

 vdsmd service does not start
 [root@maila ~]# service vdsmd start
 Redirecting to /bin/systemctl start vdsmd.service
 Job canceled.
and there is no vdsm log.

selinux or iptables is not the issue, cause setting selinux to
permissive mode or flushing the firewall does not help.

 any ideas where to start?

 Hi again
please refer to the following (taken from the same site)

I’ve found that the all-in-one installer sometimes times out during the
install process. If the script times out during the final “AIO: Adding Local
host (This may take several minutes)” step, you can proceed to the web admin
console to complete the process. If it times out at an earlier point, like
waiting for the jboss-as server to start, you should run “engine-cleanup” and
 then re-run “engine-setup”.

What does the agent's log say (/var/log/ovirt-guest-agent.log)?

Usually, if everything is running as it should, the problem is that the

I think it's the internals of the backend. Adding host, creating all the

We actually are using ovirtsdk for doing that, so it's something internal in

 Hello !!

I'm wondering if it's possible to import a VM disk
 on qcow2 format
on oVirt to use it as a VM hard disk.
The idea is to import a VMWare (vmdk) o Xen (ova)
 virtual hdd on oVirt.

As far as i remember, there is no way to import just a
 disk,
 only vm/template.
i guess you could find a way to create an OVF to
 represent a vm that
 attached to that disk,
import it and then detach the disk from the fake vm

but you don't need to convert the vmdk to qcow2 necessarily -
take a look at virt-v2v to do this for you, including changing
 drivers, etc.

As could could see virt-v2v converts VMWare ESX/ESXi VMs, but I have
 on VMWare Server 2.x.
Wouldn't it be possible to use VMware converter 3 to migrate the VMs to
ESX/ESXi type and then use virt-v2v?
Also I have Citrix XenServer VMs.

[Users] Next Release Planning

2012-08-20 Thread Mike Burns
Hi all,

Now that oVirt 3.1 has shipped, we need to start the planning process
for the next release. One of the major topics for this week's weekly
sync is to review the release criteria.

The criteria we used for 3.1 is laid out on the wiki [1]. I will be
posting an equivalent version for the next release in the next couple
days, but it will mostly be copy/paste from this page.

Please think about release criteria and whether or not we want to
add/remove/change things for this release. This needs to be determined
now to make sure that the release process runs smoother down the line.

Thanks

I had the same issue using node I then tried installing on f17 as the node
and I was able to add ISO and Export with no 477 or 500 errors. I did not
update the kernel to newest 3.5 because I use all nfs.

I tried the two newest builds of node I have not tried older.

Subject: Re: [Users] Problems with F17 and ovirt 3.1

Hi.

I tried to install ovirt 3.1 on clean F17 hosts. I tried
all-in-one
and plain manager + node installation, but every time host is just
non-responsive.

vdsmd service does not start
[root@maila ~]# service vdsmd start
Redirecting to /bin/systemctl start vdsmd.service
Job canceled.
and there is no vdsm log.

Veli, does your host have a /var/lib/vdsm/netconfback directory present? I
have found that this can cause the Job canceled message due to some
interactions between systemd services.

In my case, removing that directory and restarting vdsmd solved the issue
(of course be sure to inspect the old network setup in the netconfback
directory before deleting it, in case you may need it).

selinux or iptables is not the issue, cause setting selinux to
permissive mode or flushing the firewall does not help.

any ideas where to start?

There was an excellent step-by-step video showing how to install
all-in-one on top of f17
please follow and check again

http://blog.jebpages.com/archives/up-and-running-with-ovirt-3-1-edition/

I followed that video. Installation times out during adding local
host.
Web admin console shows it installing and after that it goes to
non-responsing state.

Hi again
please refer to the following (taken from the same site)

I’ve found that the all-in-one installer sometimes times out during the install
process. If the script times out during the final “AIO: Adding Local host (This
may take several minutes)” step, you can proceed to the web admin console to
complete the process. If it times out at an earlier point, like waiting for the
jboss-as server to start, you should run “engine-cleanup” and then re-run
“engine-setup”.

Eli/Alex - what are we timing out on?
1. all-in-one rpm is supposed to require vdsm rpms so the add host
wouldn't really need to install them
2. all-in-one is skipping the reboot

[Users] SPM problems after upgrade to 3.1

2012-08-20 Thread Darrell Budic
I upgraded my overt setup to 3.1 and it went ok (following
http://wiki.ovirt.org/wiki/OVirt_3.0_to_3.1_upgrade, I've got it running on
centos 6.2. note a need to copy a few more files from
/etc/pki/ovirt-engine-old, notable generatesshkeys, may have been due to my
previous version) until I tried to upgrade one of the nodes to the latest vdsm
as well. It happened to be the SPM at the time, and when I put it into
maintenance, the SPM started bouncing between the other two nodes that were
still up. The logs are full of these error messages, but this seems to be
important bit:

AcquireHostIdFailure: Cannot acquire host id:
('e6ba97ae-7ccc-42ed-8739-f05b7a90d82c', SanlockException(90, 'Sanlock
lockspace add failure', 'Message too long'))

I've since finished updating the vdsm node and it's up and running, although it
has the same issue. Additionally drops out of active with the message that it
can't access one of the storage domains or the data center object. I've
confirmed that all nodes can access all the data centers. In this case, I
suspect it means the DC object, but I can't find any specific error messages to
indicate that.

Any thought on repairing the issue? Let me know if you want more specific data.
This vdsm.log excerpt is repeated on all 3 nodes. I have active vms on the two
old nodes, so I'm hesitant to shut everything down and see if that helps, but
if I've got to...

Veli, does your host have a /var/lib/vdsm/netconfback directory

due to some interactions between systemd services.

In my case, removing that directory and restarting vdsmd solved the

Directory was there, but it was empty. Deleting directory didnt help,
service vdsmd start still says job canceled.

I am R Kanagaraj (RK) an open source enthusiast, stuck with Linux from my
10th standard(7 years back) and started my IT career as linux desktop
admin and grown with technical expertise to deploy several RHEV and Redhat
Clustering in large production environments. Now got more interest in oVirt
and planned to contribute, thus joined this list indeed.

The session I am going to present in oVirt workshop at Banglore Red hat
campus will briefly discuss from prerequisites to setup simple test
environment to large scale oVirt deployment and explains in detail about
different user portals, creating VMs, templates, configuring HA, forming
clusters, adding storage.

This session will require 30 Mins approx.

  Hi RK,

Great to hear from you! Would you please send me an abstract so I can
take a look at it and determine how it would best fit into the program? A
speaker bio would also be a welcome addition. If you would like to take a

 Hello everyone,

First of all, congratulations to the team on today's release of oVirt
 3.1!

As mentioned in today's weekly status IRC meeting, we would like to
ensure we have broad community participation in upcoming workshops. [0] For
KVM Forum + oVirt in Barcelona [1], a general call for papers will be
issued within the next few days. I will send a note to these lists when
details of the CFP have been announced.

For the oVirt workshop to be hosted at Red Hat's Bangalore campus on 16
October 2012, it would be wonderful if folks would propose sessions for
this workshop. (We have chosen not to go through a formal CFP process for
Bangalore so as to leave sufficient time for the KVM Forum + oVirt CFP
process to run most smoothly.) If you would like to propose a session for
oVirt Bangalore, please email me and I follow up with you.

As usual, any questions, please let me know.
