Re: [Users] Hypervisor info
Yeah, I know that script, but it's a difference if you can tell the virtualization software or if you get information regarding the infrastructure beneath it. But I agree that the UUID is not that much information. We should just pay attention to not leak more information than necessary. This leads me to the question: Why does the UUID got exposed to the vm in the first place? [Users] Using oVirt in mini datacenter
Hi Guyz, I have a requirement to compare vCenter features with oVirt in data center usage. I have a done a deep comparison of features and oVirt seems to be a good opensource alternative for Vmware. Can some one provide a lab requirement for setting up a mini oVirt setup. Does it require a dedicated DHCP and DNS server? My Requirement: To setup a mini datacenter using oVirt for demo purpose and feature comoparison with Vmware. I need HA , load balancing an fault tolerance. I also need to setup authetication with our current corp email address which is based on AD. This is what i was able to figure out. 1. At least three physical servers . 2. One shared storage among the 3 servers [for live migration] 3. A DHCP server running on Linux [OR can i use my existing DHCP server which is running in Windows] 4. A DNS server [Or can i use an existing DNS server] What else is required.. Please help... Regards, Novel ___ Users mailing list Users@ovirt.org http://lists.ovirt.org/mailman/listinfo/users

I have no experience with oVirt VoIP but here is some general feeback. This has been asked several times on the Asterisk mailing list so you might want to search those archives. If you want to use an E1 or T1 then last time I looked it's a no go because (at the time) passing on PCI(e) cards to a VM was not working very well. If you use all SIP than your mileage may vary. It all depends on how much load the box has from the other VMs. The less load on the entire box the better and the less VMs run on the box the better and the less the VoIP software does to the actual calls in transit the better. And if there's no clock skew the calls might even sound ok. Best thing you can do is setup a proof of concept and load it with hundreds or thousands of calls. Then add a few other VMs and let them do stuff that causes disk reads/writes and network send/receives (aka a lot of interrupts). Then see what happens to your calls. In general, the more calls the bigger the chance that (clusters of) bare metal boxes are used. Regards, Patrick ___ Users mailing list Users@ovirt.org http://lists.ovirt.org/mailman/listinfo/users
[Users] Horrid performance during disk I/O
This probably more appropriate for the qemu users mailing list, but that list doesn’t get much traffic and most posts go unanswered… As I’ve mentioned in the past, I’m migrating my environment from ESXi to oVirt AIO. Under ESXi I was pretty happy with the disk performance, and noticed very little difference from bare metal to HV. Under oVirt/QEMU/KVM, not so much…. Running hdparm on the disk from the HV and from the guest yields the same number, about 180MB/sec (SATA III disks, 7200RPM). The problem is, during disk activity, and it doesn’t matter if it’s Windows 7 guests or Fedora 20 (both using virtio-scsi) the qemu-system-x86 process starts consuming 100% of the hypervisor CPU. Hypervisor is a Core i7 950 with 24GB of RAM. There’s 2 Fedora 20 guests and 2 Windows 7 guests. Each configured with 4 GB of guaranteed RAM. Load averages can go up over 40 during sustained disk IO. Performance obviously suffers greatly. I have tried all combinations of having the guests on EXT 4, BTRFS and using EXT 4 and BTRFS inside the guests, as well as direct LUN. Doesn’t make any difference. Disk IO sends qemu-system-x86 to high CPU percentages. This can’t be normal, so I’m wondering what I’ve done wrong. Is there some magic setting I’m missing? ___ Users mailing list Users@ovirt.org http://lists.ovirt.org/mailman/listinfo/users

Re: [Users] noVNC https certs
I use oVirt-Engine web interface to connect to the console. I was saying I go to that link to accept the certificate, which then allows me to connect to the noVNC page. Supposedly, importing that cert prevents you from having to do that continuously. However, that is not working correctly for me, in Chrome. -Neil On 1/13/2014 3:50 PM, Joop wrote: Neil Schulz wrote: I am able to gain noNVC access by going to https://FQDN:6100, however, I'm trying to find a practical, permanent solution, to make it more user friendly for clients. Re: [Users] Horrid performance during disk I/O
Hi, I suspect most users didn't complain because they do not have high IO workloads (yet). I think most people run test setups (as do I). However, in my own (artificial) IO workload test on engine 3.2.3. there was no extreme cpu penalty for higher IO, the read/write(cache/no cache) was an expected linear transformation, with no high cpu at all. I didn't test it with 3.3. though, and as I said it was an artificial workload, no real applications. Re: [Users] Migration Failed
Hi, you may want to consider to enable your firewall for security reasons. The ports which nfs uses are configured under: /etc/sysconfig/nfs for EL 6. There's no reason at all to run oVirt without correct firewalling, not even in test environments as you will want firewalling in production and you have to test it anyway. -- Mit freundlichen Grüßen / Regards Sven Kieske Systemadministrator Mittwald CM Service GmbH Co.
