Hi,

I just re-ran the test with adding a preallocated disk, and the problem
did _not_ appear. I tried a few times to write large files with dd, but
the vm continued to run without problems

The logs you attached show no issues.
can you please attach the vm log and libvirt logs?
Also, can you please try the same test on a prealloacted disk?

Thanks, I will first try to add a preallocated disk.

Syslog on the vm did not show anything related, but I included the dmesg

Thanks for your input. The strange thing is that the existing iSCSI
disks on the very same LUN works without any issues. The problem only
seems to appear when I add a new disk to a running VM.

To properly test this I probably have to add another hypervisor host

Hi all,
There is any fix or workaround to avoid the Up-Side effect when using
HTML5-SPICE to access Windows Guest? I'm testing with Windows 7 and HTML5,
present the Window inverted, while with Linux Guest it properly works.

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: [ovirt-users] New problem with hosted-engine during "Configuring the management bridge"

2014-05-15 Thread Bob Doolittle
I have moved on. I honestly can't say what fixed this problem, but not
seeing it any more.

Then I ran into a problem with NIC naming that apuimedo (and jvandewege)
helped me through in IRC, but hosted-engine completes successfully now.

I can't configure my VM engine network for some reason, but I'll look
into that more deeply later.
What's the recommended procedure for self-hosted using F20 engine when
it comes to the network configuration wizard.

Leave it alone?
Set for static config and configure with FQDN and address on main host
network?

Thanks,
Bob

If this command works, hosted-engine setup should not fail on it.
The setup doesn't touch anything related to multipathd.

Sorry but that is not strictly correct.
You can see the code in multipath.py (setupMultipath()) that writes a new
multipath.conf file just before it tries to restart the service.
It looks like it's trying to modify the scsi_id_path.

So when I run it by hand, I am using the original multipath.conf file. When it
is run during hosted-engine setup, it is with a modified version.
My efforts in modifying the python have been to try to capture that modified
version, so that I can exercise it by hand and see what's wrong.

If something is configuring it, it must be vdsm-tool:

As I've noted ealier on this thread, that's not correct, unfortunately:
Bug 1076531 - vdsm overwrites multipath.conf at every startup

In hosted-engine setup code there's a call to "vdsm-tool configure --force".

However, it's possible to copy the vdsm-sactioned multipath.conf from
one host to another, and try `systemctl reload multipathd.service`.

Please look into journalctl for hints on why it has failed.

Re: [ovirt-users] transfer files from guest to client

2014-05-15 Thread David Jaša
Yes, the development took place. The bits for spice-webdav feature are
in git and you can test them as Cody described here:
http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/spice-devel/2014-April/016582.html
with some twists related to running in oVirt:
  * you don't need to create stuff managed by ovirt/vdsm such as certificates
  * you'll need to add webdav channels XML bits using custom hook

adding spice-devel list to CC for reference.

It seems that you can migrate a VM with macspoof=true from a host with the

reload multipathd.service

If this command works, hosted-engine setup should not fail on it.
The setup doesn't touch anything related to multipathd.

Sorry but that is not strictly correct.
You can see the code in multipath.py (setupMultipath()) that writes a
new multipath.conf file just before it tries to restart the service.

It looks like it's trying to modify the scsi_id_path.

So when I run it by hand, I am using the original multipath.conf file.
When it is run during hosted-engine setup, it is with a modified version.
My efforts in modifying the python have been to try to capture that
modified version, so that I can exercise it by hand and see what's wrong.

I use it on F19 with fedora virt-preview repo and on RHEL 6.5.
I've seen mails about people using it on CentOS.
I've not tested it on F20 yet but since vdsm should work fine on F20, it should
work there too.

When hosted-engine aborts, it uninstalls everything.
So there is no webadmin available.

I've tried modifying the VDSM python code (e.g.
/usr/share/vdsm/storage/multipath.py and
/usr/lib64/python2.7/site-packages/vdsm/tool/service.py) to see/work around
what's going wrong, but oddly VDSM does not seem to be affected. I suspect
the original code (or bytecodes) are cached somewhere.

I do not think that this is the issue, but you can remove all trace of
*.pyc/*.pyo to make sure this is not the case.

In fact I see new pyc being produced, so that's myterious as well.

Restarting vdsmd
service has no effect. I'd really appreciate some insight there so I can
work around it.

What have you changed exactly? Where? If you add a plain syntax error to
the script, does it still run?

Very simple changes, to try to get a copy of the multipath.conf file
that was presumably causing the error (since the hosted-setup cleans up
when it aborts). I've attached them (full filenames ^^).

The file never appears.

I also attached a replacement I installed for multipath, which runs the
*real* multipath (moved to multipath.bak) and filters the output to
remove the known problematic warnings, and then exits with 0 status.

But the weirdest thing is that I instrumented systemctl (replaced it
with a script that logged its args and then executed the real one), and
systemctl is *never* being invoked to start multipathd. Here's what it
logged:

show-environment
show-environment
status vdsmd.service
show -p LoadState firewalld.service
show -p LoadState sshd.service
show -p LoadState firewalld.service
show -p Id firewalld.service
disable firewalld.service
stop firewalld.service
stop libvirtd.service
start libvirtd.service
status sshd.service
show -p Id vdsmd.service
enable vdsmd.service
stop vdsmd.service
start vdsmd.service

If I run "vdsm-tool service-reload multipathd" by hand then I see the
log I'd expect:

reload multipathd.service

Does oVirt 3.4.1 work more smoothly with F20? I chose F19 because it's more
stable at this point, thinking that things would be more likely to work
smoothly. It's not turning out that way... I'm willing to start over with
F20 if there's no path forward.

Vdsm works fine on 3.4.1, but I do not know about hosted-engine. Engine
itself is known not to work on F20.

What OS is hosted-engine known to work on?

Subject: [ovirt-users] Datacenter in no more responsive

Hi,

I have a very weird issue with the last version of oVirt 3.4.1, I’ve upgraded
because I already had this issue.

It came when I wanted to re-create a new export domain on my first hypervisor
larger than the first one.

After this point, the datacenter came in a non responsive state, so I’ve
upgraded oVirt to 3.4.1, but the issue is still there.

I join the tail of the engine.log and the vdsm.log of one of the two
hypervisors.

Tell me if you want more logs.

Thank you in advance for your help J

When I answer to your question immediately after it, it's easier to
corrolate a question and an answer. Top-posting is frowned upon.

Once a domain xml has been created by Vdsm, it is migrated intact to the
destination, so there too, no filtering would take place.

Do note that having different installed on your cluster is bound to
cause random problem, and is better avoided.

ovirt-live runs from memory, not installed. designed for
demo/play-around environments, which usually include laptops with
wireless in demo booths, hence supposed to work with wireless.
but that's really only for "playing around" to see how it looks, since
it will evaporate on boot.

Re: [ovirt-users] Connection hickups with Pfsense and Carp

2014-05-15 Thread Matt .
Hi,

I don't do top-postings, just a reply to all.

It works now on all hosts!

I was testing with a Run Once with no macspoof option and changed the CARP
IP on the pfsense box to alias, and back to carp... where with alias I was
able to ping with carp not... and this was good because of the disabled
macspoof option. After this change I was also, with spoof true and not set,
able to ping the IP on the CARP interface itself, so I think Pfsense messed
something up here with ARP tables (I know form the past).

After a restart of the VM I was able to ping all IP, also CARP as it was
starting with macspoof true again.

Some other thing I'm curious about... let's say you have 3 servers in a
cluster, 2 installed with the macspoof hook and one not. The VM with
macspoof enabled starts on the host without the hook and you migrate it to
a host where the hooks is installed. What happens... ?

Cheers,

Matt

[ovirt-users] Help with Database alfter update to F 20

2014-05-15 Thread Alessandro Bianchi

Hi everyone

I have a problem after upgrading my ovirt 3.4 server from F19 to F20
using fedup

After boot postgress database didn't come up till I installed the
postrgesql-upgrade package and run  the pg_upgrade script

Now the database starts fine but ovirt-engine refuses to start due
to authentication problem

Since I suspect the problem comes from password encryption I tried
to follow

http://www.ovirt.org/Postgresql_changing_db_pass

but it seems I have no encryptpasswd.sh on my system (I did a find
with no results since it was supposed to live in a different
location than the one showed on the wiki page)

So grabbed the script here:

https://github.com/anjalshireesh/gluster-ovirt-poc/blob/master/backend/manager/conf/ca/encryptpasswd.sh

but it fails saying :

unable to find jbosssx jar...

Since I didn't change any password in the database, tried to access
it after altering the

/var/lib/pgsql/data/pg_hba.conf

and setting

local  all all trust
host    all all 127.0.0.1/32
trust

engine setup still cant'access

so I did

postgres=# alter user engine with password 'NEW_CLEAR_TEXT_PASS';

postgres=# alter user postgres with password 'NEW_CLEAR_TEXT_PASS';

The funny thing is that even after changing the passwords I can't
acpsql --username=engine

psql: FATALE:  autenticazione Peer fallita per l'utente "engine"

So I altered the hba to trust again the local users with no luck ,
and still cant'start  ovirt-engine nor engine-setup either

I'd appreciate any help since I'm stuck and cutted out from my VMs
and crashing my head against the wall

May anyoune point me in the right direction?

Thank you in advance

Best regards

Alessandro

Re: [ovirt-users] [Users] Cannot Ping CARP/Spoofed address

2014-05-15 Thread Matt .
I already did a virsh -r dumpxml on the host and everything seemed to be
fine.

It's solved at the moment as there seemed to be some arp cache on the
vm/host or switch and after changing the CARP IP to IP Alias, ping it, and
set it back to CARP it works.

Even reboots (vm's/hosts) didn't fix it... so I think pfSense was the one
here that did something maybe as I was able to ping other hosts even from
the pfsense box but not the IP's on the pfsense box... I had that earlier
too with another cluster I thought.

It is very hard for me to follow your condition, and top-posting does
not help.

Does the macspoof hook work fine on other host? And only here unknown
macs are filtered? In that case, we should figure out what is different
in this host, and see the domxml of the troublesome VM.

It could be many things. But let's try to rule out oVirt bugs. Take a
look at
virsh -r dumpxml
Does it show a filterref (it should not).

Can you ping the IP from within the VM? From another VM on the same
host?

Hi Dan,

true! I did not notice (so 270k log data for just one minute;).

I run 3.4.1 and had this issue also on 3.4 (I started with ovirt 3.4).

2014-05-15 Thread Daniel Helgenberger
It makes no diffrence if I check cloud-init or not.

I also only have problems with new VMs.
Also, using 'run once' works fine with attaching ISOs as well. It seems
to be limited to the initial creation process.

Also, I had this in ovirt 3.4 and 3.4.1

To get that... you need to set:

engine-config -s EnableMACAntiSpoofingFilterRul__es=false --cver=3.X

But no hook needs to be installed for this ? I don't have ping
at the momment with macspoof set on true on a VM.

macspoofing is more than just promiscuous mode for port mirroring,
which does require the hook to be installed (and the VM to be restarted)

there is no need for the hook for port mirroring. you can
define a
vnic profile with port mirroring via the engine and vdsm
has this
 feature built-in.

if you need more than just port mirroring (say, port
forwarding),
then you still need the hook.

any storage, including iso.
On the Data Centers tab, local_datacenter there is no storage.
No configuration on the /etc/exports file. I included 2 lines:

/home/iso 0.0.0.0/0.0.0.0(rw)
/home/storage 0.0.0.0/0.0.0.0(rw)

restart nfs but still no luck, Any idea?

As discussed in parallel threads, this version is known to misbehave
with the latest version of python-ethtool. Please make sure that you
upgrade to 4.14.8 (from ovirt-3.4.1) before continuing.

That's unrelated to the problem you describe below, but is bound to bite
you soon enough.

[ovirt-users] Duplicate ID 'drive-ide0-1-0' for drive .

2014-05-15 Thread Daniel Helgenberger
Hello,

I seem to run into a bug when creating a VM with 'advanced' options from
the 'blank' template attaching a iso image.

Steps:
 I. Create VM in oVirt GUI using blank template
II. Use advanced settings to attach an ISO image
   III. Run the VM

Engine events:

Failed to run VM rhel7-test on Host node-hv01.
VM rhel7-test is down. Exit message: internal error process exited while
connecting to monitor: qemu-kvm: -drive
file=/rhev/data-center/mnt/192.168.50.11:_volumes_tank_ovirt-iso-domain/b0f80f46-8aa3-43f5-a1a0-ce1dcd6c269c/images/----/rhel-everything-7.0-beta-1-x86_64-dvd.iso,if=none,media=cdrom,id=drive-ide0-1-0,readonly=on,format=raw,serial=:
Duplicate ID 'drive-ide0-1-0' for drive .
VM rhel7-test was started by daniel (Host: node-hv01)

A workaround is:
- Create the VM using default options; do not touch adv. settings
- Start / Stop VM
- Attach the ISO image
- The VM is starting now

Please also find the corresponding vdsm.log attached. I could not trace
the event in engine.log. Also, this is affecting all my hosts.

Cheers,

2014-05-15 Thread Matt .
OK, we are on the same line there.

The issue is that it doesn't work on this host, others do.

I have a 3.3 cluster and 3.4... both are enabled using the command... or
can't you have 2 versions ?

But no hook needs to be installed for this ? I don't have ping at the momment

macspoofing is more than just promiscuous mode for port mirroring, which
does require the hook to be installed (and the VM to be restarted)

OK, now I'm confused.

For MacSpoofing we per default don't have the "macspoof" feature in the
engine am I right ?

To get that... you need to set:

engine-config -s EnableMACAntiSpoofingFilterRules=false --cver=3.X

But no hook needs to be installed for this ? I don't have ping at the
momment with macspoof set on true on a VM.

Re: [ovirt-users] update vm in a pool

I created a pool and I assigned users to it.
I applied your solution and it works fine.
I would like to tell you that after I upgrade the server, the firewall

After that I must disable the firewall.

Thank you a lot for your help.

VMs from a pool are stateless (return to base on shutdown) if:
- started from admin portal as stateless (via runonce)
- started from user portal (as-is) in an automatic pool

VMs from a pool are statefull if:
- started from admin portal
- the pool is manual - until the VM is "returned to pool".

admin not being stateless allows to do the following;

- create the pool
- start the VMs from the admin portal (say, to have them sysprep)
- shut them down, take a snapshot!
- now use them as statless with the snapshot

(Omer - was this use case checked with template versions - that all
snapshots are deleted? does it delete the entire VM?)

recreate the pool?
2) or there are other solution?

do you want to use the VMs as stateless or statefull?
did you use the pool to assign a single vm per user from user portal, or
just to create a bunch of similar VMs?

3.4 has "template versions", so you can create a new version of the
template, and next time you shutdown/start the VMs, they will rebase to
latest version of the template if pool is so defined.

you can also install the application on the VM after you start it as an
admin (which doesn't create the stateless snapshot by default like when a
user starts the pool'd vm from the user portal).

Re: [ovirt-users] IO errors when adding new disk on iSCSI storage

2014-05-15 Thread Dafna Ron
ovirt does not pause the vm for ENOSpace, if a vm is pause for this
reason it would be done by qemu.

The logs you attached show no issues.
can you please attach the vm log and libvirt logs?
Also, can you please try the same test on a prealloacted disk?

Thanks,

Hi,

I have a new oVirt setup which is giving me some headache. I have one

iSCSI is the preferred storage, running on a HP LeftHand server.

oVirt Engine Version: 3.4.0-1.el6

Administration server and hosts are all updated with latest packages
both for CentOS and oVirt.

Both hosts are attached to a dedicated storage network with bonded
interfaces:

On the hosts the LUN is seen as:

The iSCSI LUN I'm using is 4TB large, with 2.5TB free, according to
the oVirt admin interface:

Size:4095 GB
Available:2551 GB
Used:1544 GB
Allocated:1540 GB
Over Allocation Ratio:0%

Over to the problem:

On the virtual machine I'm testing on, I'm adding a new disk on the
iSCSI storage server. The virtual machine is Debian 7.4 amd64. In this
case 20GB large with thin provisioning. Then on the virtual machine I
create a new logical volume group and disk:

Create a new partition with type 8e (Linux LVM):
fdisk /dev/vdc

Setup LVM:
pvcreate /dev/vdc1
vgcreate VGTEST /dev/vdc1
lvcreate -n lv_test -l 100%FREE VGTEST
mkfs.ext4 /dev/mapper/VGTEST-lv_test
mkdir /mnt/test
mount /dev/mapper/VGTEST-lv_test /mnt/test

Then I try writing to the new disk with f.ex dd:
dd if=/dev/zero of=/mnt/test/storfil bs=64k count=20480

Almost immediately oVirt will pause the machine with the following
error message:

VM INT-KVM-SSM02 has paused due to no Storage space error.

dmesg on the virtual machine gives to following errors:

H Jeffi,
you'd be better off asking on the spice list.
In oVirt the only remotely relevant feature is to provide an option to
enable/disable the file transfer support. But whether and how it works is out
of our scope:)

Re: [ovirt-users] Removing VM disk issue

2014-05-15 Thread Maor Lipchuk
Hi Neil,

I have been looking at your logs but it seems that there is no
indication of any operation being done on this specific disk.
I also see that there are no running tasks in VDSM, so the disk should
not be locked.

If you have any older engine logs please send them so we can investigate
the problem more better.

What is the engine version you are running?

If you want to unlock the disk, you can run this query in your postgres:
UPDATE images set imagestatus = 1 where image_guid = (SELECT image_guid
from all_disks where disk_alias = 'proxy02_Disk0' and vm_names ='proxy02');

Maor

depends what you're looking for.
Per-OS stuff has been moved to osinfo recently. It used to be in VdcOptions,
some of them which are not strictly per os but still guest-related are still
there. And well, the logic what to do with the settings is in the code:)

Hi,
in a pool the vm is not stateless only?
I created a pool and I assigned users to it.
I applied your solution and it works fine.
I would like to tell you that after I upgrade the server, the firewall
is always abilitated though I've disabled.
After that I must disable the firewall.

Thank you a lot for your help.

I do not think that this is the issue, but you can remove all trace of
*.pyc/*.pyo to make sure this is not the case.

What have you changed exactly? Where? If you add a plain syntax error to
the script, does it still run?

Vdsm works fine on 3.4.1, but I do not know about hosted-engine. Engine

Does is work when you call it from the command line?
Your traceback has

Job for multipathd.service failed. See 'systemctl status

so may there are clues there.

BTW, the fact that multipath is reloaded on vdsm startup is a known pain in the
neck:

Bug 1076531 - vdsm overwrites multipath.conf at every startup
