in the import dialog, the first column on the left is 'clone' you need to check
it.
i think that if the ui identify that the template already exists, this will be
automatically selected.

What happens if you manually try to start the vdsmd service on the host (not
vm)?
If it still fails with the above error, try to fix that first. Not sure what
might
cause this - perhaps non-standard network configuration or something like that.
You might search other logs for relevant errors from the time you do that.
Changed the subject to attract vdsm people's attention...

[ovirt-users] [QE] oVirt 3.5.1 status

2014-10-21 Thread Sandro Bonazzola
Hi,
now that oVirt 3.5.0 has been released is time to start planning for 3.5.1.

Release management for 3.5.z has been created [1]
Suggested schedule for 3.5.1, following the 1 month schedule we had in 3.4.z,
are:

General availability: 2014-12-02
RC Build: 2014-11-25

A tracker bug for 3.5.1 has been created [2] and shows currently one blocker:

Bug ID Whiteboard Status Summary
1145977 infra POST[events] Host memory usage exceeded defined
threshold cha...

There are 199 bugs [3] targeted to 3.5.1.
Excluding node and documentation bugs we still have 170 bugs [4] targeted to
3.5.1.

Maintainers / Assignee:
- Please add the bugs to the tracker if you think that 3.5.1 should not be
released without them fixed.
- Please update the target to 3.5.2 or later for bugs that won't be in 3.5.1:

You can check the cluster compatibility version in properties of your
cluster . If it's 3.4, you will need to upgrade the hosts (vdsm version)
and change the cluster compatibility version to 3.5

Optimize for virt store is meant to set tunables on a gluster volume so
that it can be used as a storage for VM images.

Please also check vdsm.log and engine.log for errors.
Also, version of vdsm and glusterfs on the host.

[ovirt-users] Change password using ovrt api is not working

2014-10-21 Thread Shanil S
Hi,

Currently i have updated the ovirt version to 3.5 and after that the reset
password using api is not working but there isn't any errors returned. The
following xml is i used for the reset password and it was working with the
previous version

   root
   $newpass

Could you please have a look at the above xml ? Is there anything modified
in the new version ?

The reset password is working fine from the ovirt admin panel and the issue
is only when we use the ovirt api to reset the password.

The issue is the VM "Edit" window not loading current value
(https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1104318), but you can check
the current value in VM "General" sub-tab.

Could you share the exact ovirt-engine version you're using?

Using the API: http://www.ovirt.org/Features/Manage_Storage_Connections

i.e. using ovirt-cli:

- Put SD in maintenance mode, then:

[root@ovirt-engine ~]# ovirt-shell -c -l
"https://ovirt-engine.example.com/api"; -u "admin@internal" -I

[...]

[oVirt shell (connected)]# list storageconnections
[...]

[oVirt shell (connected)]# show storageconnection
3aff9de7-426f-4ebf-99f7-088b52d08da1

[...]

[oVirt shell (connected)]# update storageconnection
3aff9de7-426f-4ebf-99f7-088b52d08da1 --address

[...]

Activate SD.

My IB fabric which was doing storage crashed and we have a scheduled
maintenance window for next week at which time I'd like to either move
my storage to 10GbE or back to IB. I was able to move things off IB
to standard TCP/IP by editing the database but that is likely not the
correct way. I am on ovirt 3.4.3. My NFS domain is the master and
iSCSI data domain is only used by two VMs while NFS is used by ~30 VMs.

Just try throwing ideas out there... I actually use virtualbox tools to convert
all my disks...
VBoxManage clonehd

Once converted to a raw image I use KVM to import to my storage and than v2v to
import it to oVirt.
I have a small script I wrote that does this automatically for me
I have converted .vdi, .vmdk, .qcow2, etc It has never fail me...

Re: [ovirt-users] Changing iSCSI LUN host IP and changing master domain

2014-10-21 Thread Trey Dockendorf
John,

Thanks again for the reply. Yes the API at the path you mentioned shows
the domain. This has to have been a bug as things began working after I
changed values in the database. Somehow setting the new IP for the storage
connection in the database for both NFS and iSCSI resulted in the NFS
domain becoming master again and at that point the iSCSI "magically" went
active once NFS (master) was active. I don't pretend to know how this
happened and even my boss laughed when I shrugged to the question "how did
you fix it?". I'd be glad to supply the devs with whatever information I
can, but I can't change much now as the goal of today was to get back
online and that's been achieved.

One thing I may have done that could have been a cause of iSCSI not coming
back was once I lost the IB fabric, in order to disconnect iSCSI that was
over ISER, I issued the "vgchange -an " and then logged out of
the iscsi session on each ovirt node. One of my hosts would not
re-activate once everything was back online and doing a "vgchange -ay
" then removing the host from maintenance worked. Since I had
to switch from one network to another and from iSER to iSCSI, I wanted all
active connections closed and the only way I could make the block devices
disconnect cleanly was to disable the volume group on the LUN.

Thanks,
- Trey

Re: [ovirt-users] Changing iSCSI LUN host IP and changing master domain

2014-10-21 Thread Sandra Taylor
Trey,
The thread that keeps repeating is the call to repoStats. I believe
it's part of the storage monitoring and in my environment it repeats
every 15 seconds
Mine looks like
Thread-168::INFO::2014-10-21
15:02:42,616::logUtils::44::dispatcher::(wrapper) Run and protect:
repoStats(options=None)
Thread-168::INFO::2014-10-21
15:02:42,617::logUtils::47::dispatcher::(wrapper) Run and protect:
repoStats, Return response: {'86f0a388-dc9d-4e44-a599-b3f2c9e58922':
{'code': 0, 'version': 3, 'acquired': True, 'delay': '0.00066814',
'lastCheck': '1.8', 'valid': True}}

but yours isn't returning anything , that's the the response: {}

But I think that the problem is that the hsm isn't finding volume
groups in its call to lvm vgs, and thus no storage domains (below in
the No volume groups found and Found SD uuids: () )

Thread-14::DEBUG::2014-10-21
15:12:56,768::lvm::296::Storage.Misc.excCmd::(cmd) '/usr/bin/sudo -n
/sbin/lvm vgs --config " devices { preferred_names =
[\\"^/dev/mapper/\\"] ignore_suspended_devices=1 write_cache_state=0
disable_after_error_count=3)
Thread-14::DEBUG::2014-10-21
15:12:56,968::lvm::296::Storage.Misc.excCmd::(cmd) SUCCESS:  = '
No volume groups found\n'; = 0
Thread-14::DEBUG::2014-10-21
15:12:56,969::lvm::415::OperationMutex::(_reloadvgs) Operation 'lvm
reload operation' released the operation mutex
Thread-14::DEBUG::2014-10-21
15:12:56,974::hsm::2352::Storage.HSM::(__prefetchDomains) Found SD
uuids: ()
Thread-14::DEBUG::2014-10-21
15:12:56,974::hsm::2408::Storage.HSM::(connectStorageServer) knownSDs:
{}

But I don't really know how that's possible considering you show what
looks to be an domain in the lvscan.
The only thing that comes to mind is that there was a bug in some of
the iscsi initiator tools where there was an error returned if a
session was already logged in but that doesn't look to be the case by
the logs. Or maybe something like lvmetad caching but vdsm uses its
own config to turn lvmetad off (at /var/run/vdsm/lvm I think)

Does the storage domain with that id exist ?
It should be seen at /api/storagedomains/4eeb8415-c912-44bf-b482-2673849705c9

[ovirt-users] Recovering iSCSI domain (Was: Changing iSCSI LUN host IP and changing master domain)

2014-10-21 Thread Trey Dockendorf
Somehow my NFS domain got to be master again. I went into the database and
updated the connections for NFS and I noticed that once I updated the IP
for the ISCSI in the "storage_server_connections" table that the interface
kept moving "(master)" between the iSCSI and NFS domain...very odd.

I did these commands and now NFS is up.

update storage_server_connections set connection='10.0.0.10:/tank/ovirt/data'
where id='a89fa66b-8737-4bb8-a089-d9067f61b58a';
update storage_server_connections set
connection='10.0.0.10:/tank/ovirt/import_export'
where id='521a8477-9e88-4f2d-96e2-d3667ec407df';
update storage_server_connections set
connection='192.168.202.245:/tank/ovirt/iso'
where id='fb55cfea-c7ef-49f2-b77f-16ddd2de0f7a';
update storage_server_connections set connection='10.0.0.10' where
id='d6da7fbf-5056-44a7-9fc8-e76a1ff9f525';

Once I activated the NFS master domain all my other domains went to active,
including iSCSI.

My concern now is whether the iSCSI domain is usable. The API path at
"/api/storagedomains/4eeb8415-c912-44bf-b482-2673849705c9/storageconnections"
shows

If I go to edit the iSCSI domain and check the LUN the warning I get is
this:

This operation might be unrecoverable and destructive!
The following LUNs are already in use:
- 1IET_00010001 (Used by VG: 3nxXNr-bIHu-9YS5-Kfzc-A2Na-sMhb-jihwdt)

That alone makes me very hesitant to approve the operation. I could use
some wisdom if this is safe or not.

Thanks,
- Trey

2014-10-21 Thread Trey Dockendorf
John,

Thanks for reply. The Discover function in GUI works...it's once I try and
login (Click the array next to target) that things just hang indefinitely.

# iscsiadm -m session
tcp: [2] 10.0.0.10:3260,1
iqn.2014-04.edu.tamu.brazos.vmstore1:ovirt-data_iscsi

# iscsiadm -m node
10.0.0.10:3260,1 iqn.2014-04.edu.tamu.brazos.vmstore1:ovirt-data_iscsi

# multipath -ll
1IET_00010001 dm-3 IET,VIRTUAL-DISK

`-+- policy='round-robin 0' prio=1 status=active

size=466G features='0' hwhandler='0' wp=rw
`-+- policy='round-robin 0' prio=1 status=active
  `- 3:0:0:0 sdc 8:32 active ready running

The first entry, 1IET_00010001 is the iSCSI LUN.

We may have seen something similar in the past but I think there were vlans

Is it the same for you?

straightforward way for me to import this new qcow2 disk into ovirt.

It seems my best option at the moment is to export the VMware VM as
an OVA and then try and use a newer virt-v2v to import this into ovirt.
Alternatively I could construct a VM in virt-manager and attach the
converted qcow2 disk to it, and then use virt-v2v to import this into
ovirt.

Can someone suggest an alternative course of action? It seems
strange that I can't just import a disk into ovirt, construct a VM
and attach the disk.

Is there anything int he works to make this process easier?

Thanks,
Paul

I have not found a way to import qcow2 disk into oVirt.

The last time I needed to import a qcow2 disk to oVirt I created a vm
in a kvm server (my pc..) with virt-manager, then I added the qcow
disk, and booted the vm with clonezilla. Then I created a VM in oVirt,
provisioned with similar disks and booted also with clonezilla. Then I
cloned from kvm to oVirt. After I deleted the native kvm vm and disks.
In this way I bypassed all the import, export, ova compatibility,
virt2virt, etc.

Simple and practical

Wrote this awhile back as a quick qcow to ovf implementation to import
into ovirt-engine/rhevm. There are newer options but this does the job
really quick. Will wrap the qcow image into an exploded ova structure or
zipped. You can then import it directly into engine with
engine-image-uploader.

Speaking only for myself, I avoid templates wherever possible - beyond
using a nice(r) font for text and some styling for slide headers, and
having the logo on the slide master pages (which I don't like mostly), I
don't get any value out of them. I try to avoid bullet points altogether
when writing slides, and if I must, I use them sparingly.

I'm not a Powerpoint/Impress/Prezi/Keynote guru/wizard by any stretch of
the imagination, I try to concentrate on the story/narrative for the
audience, and draft slides around that. Aside from font choices and
background colours, what do people expect from a template?

Thanks,
Dave.

Re: [ovirt-users] oVirt 3.5 & Neutron (Will this work?)

2014-10-21 Thread Phil Daws
Hi Moti:

Have thrown together a diagram of how I think it should look :-

https://cloudvault.innoffice247.com/public.php?service=files&t=9e57686453ce6b71fdce1dd1eb18fe4a

As each oVirt host has a single activated NIC am trying to see how I can use
OVS, to provide OSPF & SFLOW, and vLAN capability like I have used manually
with KVM and OVS. From my dev machine this is how OVS looks:

[root@dev01 ~]# ovs-vsctl show
55a2af2f-daf5-4f01-a757-9bccaf4f6932
Bridge "ovsbr0"
Port "vnet0"
Interface "vnet0"
Port "vnet1"
tag: 8
Interface "vnet1"
Port "vnet13"
tag: 14
Interface "vnet13"
Port "vnet9"
tag: 10
Interface "vnet9"
Port "mgmt0"
Interface "mgmt0"
type: internal
Port "vnet14"
tag: 8
Interface "vnet14"
Port "ovsbr0"
Interface "ovsbr0"
type: internal
Port "vnet11"
tag: 8
Interface "vnet11"
Port "vnet10"
tag: 13
Interface "vnet10"
Port "vnet12"
tag: 13
Interface "vnet12"
Port "em1"
Interface "em1"
Port "vnet3"
tag: 14
Interface "vnet3"
Port "vnet4"
tag: 20
Interface "vnet4"
Port "vnet2"
tag: 10
Interface "vnet2"
ovs_version: "2.3.90"

So I have a single NIC with a public facing IP and then I present that IP as a
gateway, via the bridge, to a VM firewall which then handles the vlans inside
that.

Hope that makes sense ?

Thanks, Phil

A new host is not mandatory. You need to move an existing host to maintenance
and reinstall it. On the "Re-install" dialog select the details of the network
provider.

Do you intend to use a single neutron appliance for each host or to use a
single
neutron appliance to manage connectivity on the two hosts ?

> The question is that only physical NIC is enabled (public facing), and
> occupies the ovirtmgmt network, so would I still be able to use Neutron on
> the second NIC even though it is not connected to anything ?

Is there L2 connectivity between the hosts ? Or by "not connected to anything"
you
actually mean there is no wiring between the hosts ?

If this is the first case, you should be able to define for each subnet a
gateway
via the 'Add subnet' dialog on the engine. That gateway should be used for
obtaining
connectivity for the vms to the public/external network. You'll have to
configure it manually
though (doesn't covered as part of the ovirt-neutron integration).

If there is really no connectivity between the hosts and the only outgoing
traffic from
each host is via the ovirtmgmt network - it is problematic. According to [1],
you'll
have to specify as bridge mappings on the network provider agent details:
br-neutron:ovirtmgmt,
where ovirtmgmt will replace the neutron.

But that also implies that you'll share any traffic going through the
integration bridge
of neutron and the hosts with the management network and respectively with the
public
network, hence the dhcp agents connected to br-int (which is connected to
br-neutron and
to ovirtmgmt) will receive request from the 'ovirtmgmt' network as well.

Haven't tried it myself, and can't expect the results.

What is there I can do to get my storage back online? Right now my iSCSI
is master (something I did not want) which is odd considering the NFS data
domain was added as master when I setup oVirt. Nothing will come back
until I get the master domain online and unsure what to do now.

Thanks,

the fastest, but dirtiest way would be
to restart the engine, as some vms might be hung in some
stale state, you could also try to check the status in the db.

there where some postings on the mailing list on how to do so.

[ovirt-users] Changing iSCSI LUN host IP and changing master domain

2014-10-21 Thread Trey Dockendorf
I had a catastrophic failure of the IB switch that was used by all my

How does one change the master? Right now I am having issues getting iSCSI

[ovirt-users] First oVirt 3.5 "hosted-engine deploy" hangs

2014-10-21 Thread Scott Worthington
Hello,

I am adding an additional VM Host to a single hosted-engine-ha configuration
using oVirt 3.5

The "first run" of "hosted-engine --deploy" hangs at:

# hosted-engine --deploy
[ INFO ] Stage: Initializing
Continuing will configure this host for serving as hypervisor and
create a VM where you have to install oVirt Engine afterwards.
Are you sure you want to continue? (Yes, No)[Yes]: Yes

Is this still the problem: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1055153

To get "hosted-engine --deploy" to work, I have to kill the hung session and
execute "hosted-engine --deploy" a second time and the process will continue.

# ps auxwww | grep hosted

Is there a work around to stop the hanging if I want to add a 3rd host?

Thank you for your assistance,

Re: [ovirt-users] ovirt presentation template -- google docs format?

2014-10-21 Thread Brian Proffitt
I was thinking that we could have a darker-themed template, possibly based on
the background wallpaper for oVirt Live. Instead of dead center, the oVirt logo
could be set in the upper-left or -right corner.

Any PatternFly-influenced touches (fonts, colors, etc) would be nice as well.

Re: [ovirt-users] Guest VM Running 160 RCU Processes

2014-10-21 Thread Darrell Budic
Was poking at this a little to see if there was any tuning that could affect it
and spotted some oddness with the processor counts on my VMs under Ovirt 3.4.
They seem to think they only have the proper number I set in ovirt (as shown in
/proc/cpu), but if I look at dmidecode, there’s 159 bogus processors listed.
I’d expect maybe 16 from the -smp 1,maxcpus=16,sockets=16,cores=1,threads=1
argument to qemu-kvm, but there are 0xa0 of them. Maybe this is a seabios or
qemu-kvm issue causing all those extras? Anyway, the # of rcu* processes
matches pretty well, so that’s likely where it’s coming from.

At least they shouldn’t be causing a performance issue, given their purpose as
non-blocking work threads, but it is odd to see.

Punit, did you open a BZ I can add these details to?

BTW, this appears to be corrected with some component of Ovirt 3.5 (probably
qemu-rhev?). On VMs started after I upgraded my Engine (even on 3.4 vdsmds),
I’m only seeing 16 “processors” in the bios, and thus only 16 of the various
rcu* processes. Could have been a general Centos 6.5 update too, since I did
those as well, so I can’t get any finer resolution on that issue (both engine
and host nodes, lots of Centos 7 VMs).

If there is a RFE for this, perhaps a configurable max # of CPU sockets for hot
add could be added, or it could be limited to the max physical cpu count of the
biggest host in the cluster?

A new host is not mandatory. You need to move an existing host to maintenance
and reinstall it. On the "Re-install" dialog select the details of the network
provider.

neutron appliance to manage connectivity on the two hosts ?

Re: [ovirt-users] importing a qcow2 disk into ovirt 3.5?

It seems that the newest virtv2v has dropped support for importing

didn't have any success with using the current virt-v2v attaching to
an ESXi host.

I've prepared the VM by first removing the vmware tools and have
installled the various virtio drivers, as well as running the
'mergeide' registry file to enable IDE. I've used 'qemu-img' to
convirt this VMDK file to QCOW2. It does not appear that there is a
straightforward way for me to import this new qcow2 disk into ovirt.

It seems my best option at the moment is to export the VMware VM as an
OVA and then try and use a newer virt-v2v to import this into ovirt.
Alternatively I could construct a VM in virt-manager and attach the
converted qcow2 disk to it, and then use virt-v2v to import this into
ovirt.

Can someone suggest an alternative course of action? It seems strange
that I can't just import a disk into ovirt, construct a VM and attach
the disk.

Is there anything int he works to make this process easier?

Thanks,

I have not found a way to import qcow2 disk into oVirt.

The last time I needed to import a qcow2 disk to oVirt I created a vm in
a kvm server (my pc..) with virt-manager, then I added the qcow disk,
and booted the vm with clonezilla.

Subject: [ovirt-users] oVirt 3.5 & Neutron (Will this work?)

Hello:

have installed oVirt 3.5 on two cloud based servers and then managing them from
a local engine using a VPN link. On each server I would like to use the
Neutron VM appliance so that I can provision the networks using OpenVswitch as
I would like to learn about using OSPF between the two diverse systems.

The question is that only physical NIC is enabled (public facing), and occupies
the ovirtmgmt network, so would I still be able to use Neutron on the second
NIC even though it is not connected to anything ? Or could I bind the Neutron
network to the same one as the ovirtmgmt ? Basically wish to run the VMs with
private IPs and then NAT through a VM firewall to the public address.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Re: [ovirt-users] AllInOne Installation ovirt3.5 on CentOS 6.5 fails

2014-10-21 Thread Werner, Patrick
Hi Didi,

vdsm.log is empty and not owned by root:
-rw-r--r-- 1 vdsm kvm 0 Oct 21 13:44 /var/log/vdsm/vdsm.log

In order to identify when this empty log is created i just reinstalled ovirt
3.5 AllInOne on a fresh installed Centos 6.5 as root user (the ls -l
/var/log/vdsm/vdsm.log* output from above is from the fresh install)
the empty vdsm log is created after the installation step:
yum install -y ovirt-engine-setup-plugin-allinone

Then i did the engine-setup step (Complete settings/log at the end of this
mail). Again with the error:
[ ERROR ] The VDSM host was found in a failed state. Please check engine and
bootstrap installation logs.
[WARNING] Local storage domain not added because the VDSM host was not up.
Please add it manually.

If i then enter webadmin the host is in the „install failed“ state. (vddm.log
still empty)

I then clicked on reinstall host. After this the whole webadmin page becomes
unresponsive. I’ve waited 15 min and then rebooted the machine - now the server
isn’t responding on port 443 and 80. (I will now install again and don’t click
on the reinstall button)
If u need more logs or information i’ll be happy to provide them.

Thanks for your help
Patrick Werner

I wasn't aware of mom.log, thanks! :-) After another host reboot
and a manual "Sync MOM Policy" it seems like the setting finally came
through:

2014-10-19 15:57:18,211 - mom.Controllers.KSM - INFO - Updating KSM

Now the ksmd process is still there, but it remains idle.

Indeed ksmd process will always be there. The ultimate place to check
whether it's working or not is /sys/kernel/mm/ksm/run file. "1" for
running and "0" for sleeping. mom.log is reflecting its value and MoM
process will change it as needed.

I've tried this multiple times before upgrading to 3.5.0 GA
today. Maybe it was broken between RC and GA.

I'll keep an eye on this and open a BZ in case the setting will
change again.

Oh, I didn't recall that a few minutes ago.

AFAIK the new virt-v2v is still not supporting OVAs.

That means, we need to create the ovas ourselfs using some script (like the one
above).

I remember not so much time ago that VMware generated OVA format was NOT
compatible for import into oVirt/RHEV
see for example this thread:

Did anything change in the mean time and is perhaps the new virt-v2v

Hi,

I have some custom OS templates...how i can use my those OS template on my

I tried with export the template on another location and then try to add the
same NFS to another datacenter ...but can not add because of the data domain
already existsso i rename the nfs folder and create it and then move the
data under images from previous folder to new folderbut it didn't
workis there any way to copy or move the Templates and can use later on
the same datacenter or another datacenter ???

Thanks,
Punit

export the template to the export domain,
then move the export domain to maintenance and detach it from the current
data-center.

now attach (import existing domain) the export domain to the new data-center,
and activate (not sure if this happens automatically or not).
now you can import the template to the new data-center,
if its the same ovirt setup, i assume you will need to select the 'clone'
option and give it a new name

let me know if it helps

Hey Paul,

I think the OVA is what you need for Engine.
Once you get that file you can import it.
So: Use the OVA offered by the VMWare thing, or use a script like this one:

http://jenkins.ovirt.org/user/fabiand/my-views/view/Node/job/ovirt-appliance_engine-3.5_master_merged/ws/ovirt-appliance/engine-appliance/scripts/create_ova.py
depends on https://github.com/redhat-imaging/imagefactory

To convert the qcow2 to an OVA.

Yes, I've had a look at that doco. I've even built up a Centos 7 machine and

I'd be most interested to hear peoples experiences doing these kinds of

I remeber Sandro was soliciting feedback about how the import process could be
improved not long ago. It seems this is still an area that needs a bit of
polish in ovirt - not to take away from the significant work that Richard Jones
in doing with libguestfs and the associated tools.

[ovirt-users] oVirt 3.5 & Neutron (Will this work?)

2014-10-21 Thread Phil Daws
Hello:

have installed oVirt 3.5 on two cloud based servers and then managing them from
a local engine using a VPN link.

Thanks, Phil

I see that vdsm.log is empty. Is it indeed? What's the output of
ls -l /var/log/vdsm/vdsm.log*
?

If it's indeed empty, and is owned by root, that it means that some
process ran by root created it, and later the vdsm user fails to write
to it.

We had several cases like that in the past, some of them failed to be
fully diagnosed. Some relevant links:

http://gerrit.ovirt.org/25912
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1080580
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=912308
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1055153

A trivial workaround is:
chown vdsm:kvm /var/log/vdsm/vdsm.log

If you can come up with any idea about how this happened (e.g. if you
can correlate the timestamp of the file with something else that happened
on the system, etc.), we'd love to hear about it. Adding some vdsm people.
Thanks!

[ovirt-users] iSCSI connection to a LUN - EMC CX4-120 - Login OK but no LUN

2014-10-21 Thread Nicolas Ecarnot

Hi,

Setting up our third oVirt infra, we are now connecting it to an EMC
CX4-120 SAN.
On this SAN, we have set up a classical storage group, added the
authorized hosts, registered them.

On the oVirt side, we want to create the first master storage domain and
so we give the GUI the right SAN ip, and the iSCSI connection is working.

We see appearing the two virtual IP of the storage processors (A and B),
and the login button reacts well, no error appears.

But no LUN shows up at this point.

Looking at the hosts used by this connection, it appears that the iSCSI
connection worked well, and that the LUN is visible on the host side
("iscsiadm -m session -P3").

So now, in the web GUI, there is no LUN showing up I could connect to.
I have isolated the relevant logs - the engine one and the vdsm one :

Engine : http://pastebin.com/32Sg85C8
VDSM : http://pastebin.com/BbY6mVSk

I don't know what is missing? May you help me?

Hi,
you're highlighting different things.
In UI we show CPU usage, in terminal window you are pointing out the "average
load" values, that's something completely different. Load specifies how many
processes gets scheduled last 1/5/15 minutes.
With your load values I'm surprised it's not red:)

I found the root cause (I was re-installing the engine to be sure).
I didn't have includepkgs in jpackage.repo repository so during engine
install it installed more packages (mainly xmlgraphics-batik which could
replace batik).
I use configuration management and I used jpackage earlier so I just put
it as dependency and don't install ovirt-release35 (I installed it later
after all packages were installed and checked update).

Thanks for your help, maybe it helps also to Kapetanakis.

Cheers,

Luf

That was the reason for me too.

I did the following to fix it:

jpackage.repo:
exclude=xmlgraphics-batik

rpm -e xmlgraphics-batik-1.7-14.jpp6.noarch --nodeps
yumdownloader batik
rpm -Uvh batik-1.7-8.5.el6.x86_64.rpm

/etc/init.d/ovirt-engine restart

When host is added its ssh fingerprint is recorded in database, and is enforced
from this point on.
Only at Edit Host dialog it can be modified.
You can also pre-fetch the fingerprint before adding the host at Add Host
dialog in order to confirm that it is the correct host, it will add this
fingerprint to database and enforce it when adding the host too.

It just turns out this already works in ovirt 3.3.2
maybe even earlier, but I would like to know
if the point about host key validation on the mentioned wiki
page is still true, as I think this would be cve-worthy.

As far as I remember it is since 3.4.

I found this:

http://www.ovirt.org/OVirt_Administration_Guide#Host_Tasks

"Select an authentication method to use with the host.

  1. Enter the root user's password to use password authentication.
  2. Copy the key displayed in the SSH PublicKey field to
/root/.ssh/authorized_keys on the host to use public key authentication."

I guess this just works from version 3.4 upwards or also for 3.3.?
if for 3.3. since which z stream release?

I agree. Not sure about the current status.

Note that there are two different issues here:

1. Letting ssh using a key pair instead of a password - already done
2. verifying the fingerprint, whether input by user or saved after first login
- not sure

Please review 3.4 or 3.5, there is full enforcement per ssh fingerprint and you
can view the engine public key to be installed within the "Add Host" dialog and
use PK authentication.

Well there is this wiki page:

http://www.ovirt.org/Features/Ssh_Abilities

but it is from 2013 and has this security hole:

"Currently we don't enforce fingerprint validation."

I don't know if this is still valid, I don't find any
options regarding public/private keys in ovirt 3.3. but
I would be very interested in this topic to tighten security.

Did you consult the documentation of virt-v2v ?
Imho all the information you need is there, but I didn't test this
myself so ymmv.

Here's the link:

IIRC we already allow that, no? In the "new host" dialog you can choose
"ssh public key".
