Re: [ovirt-users] host gaga and ovirt cannt control it.

2016-10-26 Thread Ramesh Nachimuthu
Can you explain state of your setup now. May be a screen shot of the 'Hosts'
tab and logs from /var/log/ovirt-engine/engine.log should help us to understand
the situation there.

Regards,
Ramesh

[ovirt-users] host gaga and ovirt cannt control it.

2016-10-26 Thread Thing
Ok, I have struggled with this for 2 hours now, glusterp2 and the ovirt
server are basically not talking at all. I have rebooted both, I dont know
how many times. Reading via google there seems to be no fix for this bar a
manual hack of the ovirt server's database to delete the host glusterp2?
or it it re-install from scratch time?

If I have to re-install from scratch, is it best to go back a version of
ovirt say to 3.6?

Re: [ovirt-users] failed to activate a (gluster) host. ovirt 4.0.4

2016-10-26 Thread Tom Gamull
This is pointing to network connectivity issues

You can look at logs under /var/logs/ovirt-*

Check your dns and make sure the hosts can connect to each other. You can
restart the host, mark it as restarted in the manager and then activate it.

Worst case, you can remove it using hosted-engine commands

What does gluster peer status say on each host?

[ovirt-users] failed to activate a (gluster) host. ovirt 4.0.4

2016-10-26 Thread Thing
While trying to figure out how to deploy storage I put 1 host into
maintenance mode, trying to re-activate it and its failed.

It seems to be stuck as neither in activated nor maintenance, so how would
I go about fixing this?

So what log(s) would this be written to?

Do you have logs from January 2016, showing how this disk was created?

I'm sure the disk was not created from oVirt UI, since you cannot specify
size of 35.25 G, only integer values.

35.25G is exactly 32G * 1.1, rounded up to the next extent size (128M).
We do this calculation when estimating the size of a sparse volume.

Maybe this disk started as thin provisioned disk on another storage domain,
and was converted to preallocated volume on January 2016? Or maybe this
disk is a result of a merge?

Re: [ovirt-users] Upgrading oVirt 3.6 with existing HTTPS certificate signed by custom CA to oVirt 4

2016-10-26 Thread Kenneth Bingham
I did install a server certificate from a private CA on the engine server
for the oVirt 4 Manager GUI, but haven't figured out how to configure
engine to trust the same CA which also issued the server certificate
presented by vdsm. This is important for us because this is the same server
certificate presented by the host when using the console (e.g. websocket
console falls silently if the user agent doesn't trust the console server's
certificate).

no, I will try again doing so. I didnt notice this as a requirement so I
assumed the method was the ovirt server uploaded the needed packages to

What is the storage performance on both?

[ovirt-users] Upgrading oVirt 3.6 with existing HTTPS certificate signed by custom CA to oVirt 4

2016-10-26 Thread Beckman, Daniel
We have oVirt 3.6.7 and I am preparing to upgrade to 4.0.4 release. I read the
release notes (https://www.ovirt.org/release/4.0.4/) and noted comment #4 under
“Install / Upgrade from previous version”:

If you are using HTTPS certificate signed by custom certificate authority,
please take a look at https://bugzilla.redhat.com/1336838 for steps which need
to be done after migration to 4.0. Also please consult
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/1313379 how to setup this custom CA for use with
virt-viewer clients.

So I referred to the first bugzilla
(https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1336838), where it states as
follows:

If customer wants to use custom HTTPS certificate signed by different CA, then
he has to perform following steps:

1. Install custom CA (that signed HTTPS certificate) into host wide trustore
(more info can be found in update-ca-trust man page)

2. Configure HTTPS certificate in Apache (this step is same as in previous
versions)

3. Create new configuration file (for example
/etc/ovirt-engine/engine.conf.d/99-custom-truststore.conf) with following
content:
ENGINE_HTTPS_PKI_TRUST_STORE="/etc/pki/java/cacerts"
ENGINE_HTTPS_PKI_TRUST_STORE_PASSWORD=""

4. Restart ovirt-engine service

I find it humorous that step # 1 suggests reading the “man page” which is only
slightly better than suggesting to “google” it.

Has anyone using a custom CA for their HTTPS certificate successfully upgraded
to oVirt 4? If so could you share your detailed steps? Or can anyone point me
to an actual example of this procedure? I’m a little nervous about the upgrade
if you can’t already tell.

Thanks,
Daniel

The process finished successfully, took about 4 hours per vm, not sure if
this is typical or not, but this being our first test run i was afraid that
it may have stopped and was unsure. I will check the VDSM.log file on the
next test migration i do.

Hi,

during the import process engine shows status like "Initializing",
"Copying disk x/y" and "Finishing" next to the VM.

Could you check in the engine status of the import task? Did it finish
successfully or with an error? You can also check the vdsm.log for any
errors.

Best regards,

Tomas

[ovirt-users] ovirt-engine, ovirt-engine base O.S, hypervisor base O.S update(s)

2016-10-26 Thread Sandvik Agustin
hi user,

I'm planning to update my virutalization and to fix some system
incompatibility.

we've been using this kind of setup since 2014 and as of now we're not
having some problem.

the system incompatibility that I mention is that, at first my ovirt-engine
base os is CentOS 6.7 and my ovirt-engine first version was 3.5 I believe
that version 3.5 supports adding hosts with the base O.S of Centos 6.x,
then we decided to update the ovirt-engine version from 3.5 to 3.6, then i
begun having problem adding hosts with base O.S of CentOS 6.x, then tried
to google it, I found out that ovirt-engine 3.6 does not support adding
hosts with base O.S of EL6.x, just to add the new host, I decided to change
the base O.S of it from CentOS 6.7 to CentOS 7, i've successfully added it
to the ovirt-engine but on the different Cluster, and because of this, some
features of ovirt-engine 3.6 was unable to use. By the way, my setup here
is self-hosted "ovirt-engine".

now my question is
1. will it still work if I restore my current ovirt-engine backup with base
of CentOS 6.7 to a new ovirt-engine base O.S CentOS 7 without messing with
the Domain data storage. LDAP and VM(s)?

TIA
Sandvik

Re: [ovirt-users] oVirt 3.6 Migrated from Legacy AD Authentication - Previously Used AD Users Can't Log In

2016-10-26 Thread Beckman, Daniel
That’s it! Some background: within our IT department most of us have a regular
user account and an administrative account. For the later account type, the UPN
and SAM account name happen to be the same (e.g. jdoead...@example.com) whereas
for regular users UPN is something like john@example..com. When I used the
UPN name (e.g. john.doe) the login worked fine.

We can work with that. But is there a way to change it to using SAM account
name?

Thanks,
Daniel

[ovirt-users] migrating via pivotting the storage domain between instances of Manager

2016-10-26 Thread Kenneth Bingham
Is it possible to "pivot" up or down guests from one instance of Manager to
another instance of Manager by detaching the data storage domain from the
source Manager's data center and attaching it to the destination Manager's
data center? I tried this with a block type storage domain, but there are
no storage domains found when I do "import domain" in the destination
Manager.

If I do "import domain" on the source Manager and choose the same oVirt
host to perform the import then the detached storage domain is able to be
imported. If I re-attach the storage domain to the source Manager's data
center the unregistered guests are available for import. Why does this
require that the oVirt host performing the import be the same host that had
formerly mounted the domain? Or, is it that the host is still recognized as
enrolled in the DC that had created the unregistered guests on the detached
storage domain?

What if, instead of detaching the storage domain from the source Manager's
data center, I shut down all guests and put the oVirt host in maintenance
mode and enroll that same oVirt host in the destination Manager's data
center, then would it be possible to import the detached storage domain and
import the unregistered guests and templates stored there?

Thanks for the report. It's indeed a bug. Can you please report it in

If you do this with individual users’ permissions though, it works as

Re: [ovirt-users] Ovirt and active directory integration

2016-10-26 Thread Ondra Machacek

On 10/26/2016 12:01 PM, nicola.gentile.to wrote:

Hi,
I would like to submit a problem with active directory authentication.
Let me make an introduction.
Actually my infrastructure consists in 1 manager and 2 nodes (version
4.0.4).
The active directory forest consists in many subdomains.
In the active directory forest there are 2 type of accounts:
-1- normal users, this account is similar to name.surn...@domain.it
-2- particular users, this account is similar to s123...@subdomain.domain.it

Important note: the subdomain of the account type 2 is an alias domain
for example:

s123...@subdomain.domain.it is an alias of s123...@domain.it

When I do login from user portal:

- with normal users I login correctly and I can start the vm without problem
- with particular users I login correctly but I can not start the vm
although I have permissions. To solve this problem I must insert the
account in the db of ovirt from administration portal in the users tab

I noticed that, with a particular users (s123...@subdomain.domain.it),
the ovirt infrastructure does not automatically insert this account in
the own db.

We do not insert those users in database only in case they are member
of group which is added in system. But once you log in with this user
it should inherit all permissions of the group which is member of.

So can you please double check the group which those users are members
has appropriate permissions to start the VM?

You can also see what groups are resolved by oVirt engine to specific
user by running following command:

 $ ovirt-engine-extensions-tool aaa login-user
--user-name=s123...@subdomain.domain.it --profile=domain.it

You could also hit this bug:

 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1336707

What's the groups scopes?

Also the subdomain.domain.it is not in the list of the subdomains of the
forest, perhaps it is for this reason that does not work properly.

I deduced that is an active directory problem (that in not resolvable
for the complexity of the AD infrastructure), I ask you if exist a
script for insert of many accounts at one time. Something like:

script.sh < list-users.txt

Something like this[1] should work for you. I didn't test it. Note it
uses oVirt Python SDK version4. Which can be downloaded from pip as follows:

 pip install ovirt-engine-sdk-python

But I wouldn't do it and would rather find the root cause as I think
this is issue on oVirt side.

[1] https://paste.fedoraproject.org/461499/

where the file lists-users.txt consists of a sequential list of accounts
like this:

s000...@subdomain.polito.it
s000...@subdomain.polito.it
s000...@subdomain.polito.it
s000...@subdomain.polito.it

Thank you very much for your help

[ovirt-users] Kill a failed VM import

2016-10-26 Thread Chris Cowley
Hello all

I have just imported physical machine into my export datastore using
virt-p2v. While I was importing it, my hosted-engine died (VM went into
paused state) during the disk-copy stage.

Now, that half-imported VM is in the status "image locked" and I am un able
to do anything with it. The disk image does not seem to be in my master
data store so I think I can safely delete the VM and re-import it. However,
that is not available in the web GUI. How can I work around that and force
the deletion?

That's correct, in 4.0 we register the host from engine.

When I try to add host from engine, it is reporting as the
target is a hypervisor host and terminating the setup. How do I proceed
further?

If you have the host up, you need to setup your storage, create disks
and finally the virtual machines.

In case you have any problem during the registration/deploy of host, in
engine, we have the events window (below window) with the log of deploy.
The full logs are also in engine machine:
/var/log/ovirt-engine/host-deploy/*.

I hope that helps.

Re: [ovirt-users] Hosted-Engine-HA-Simulation-Error

2016-10-26 Thread Martin Sivak
Hi Anzar,

the "is not a hosted engine host" part usually means the hosted engine
score of that host is zero. You can check the score in the General subtab
for the host.

The reason for the score being zero might be that the engine hasn't noticed
the deployment yet or something failed on the host. You can check that by
logging into any hosted engine host and issuing hosted-engine --vm-status
command. That will tell you details about the status of all hosts.

Re: [ovirt-users] oVirt Node iso downoad

2016-10-26 Thread Anantha Raghava

Hello Kasturi,

I download and installed. But not getting any option to setup the engine
information. When I try to add host from engine, it is reporting as the
target is a hypervisor host and terminating the setup. How do I proceed
further?

Re: [ovirt-users] Using Local Harddisks on the Host for Storage Domains

2016-10-26 Thread Tom Gamull
I’ve done the same. You may get some shutdown issues with this approach on
sanlock so if this is more of a home lab and you shutdown a lot sometimes the
following helps

systemctl stop ovirt-ha-agent ovirt-ha-broker
systemctl stop vdsmd
systemctl stop sanlock
systemctl stop nfs
systemctl power off

The sanlock will take a while
Sometimes I’ve also had to manually mount the volumes under /rhev/…

YMMV

2016-10-26 Thread Yanir Quinn
Hi Anzar ,
There is a bug for this misleading second log message :
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1314377
which is being handled for the next version.

since the second host is not available as a virtual machine a proper
message should reflect that instead of the current one you get now.

Thanks

[ovirt-users] Hosted-Engine-HA-Simulation-Error

2016-10-26 Thread Anzar Sainudeen
Dear Team,

I am getting the below error during the hosted-Engine HA testing.

Error while executing action:

1. HostedEngine:

* Cannot migrate VM. There is no host that satisfies current
scheduling constraints. See below for details:
* The host hosted_engine_1 did not satisfy internal filter Migration
because it currently hosts the VM..
* The host hosted_engine_2 did not satisfy internal filter HA because
it is not a Hosted Engine host..

2. Second is hosted_engine_2 is not available as a virtual machine.

[ovirt-users] Ovirt and active directory integration

2016-10-26 Thread nicola.gentile.to

Hi,
I would like to submit a problem with active directory authentication.

I noticed that, with a particular users (s123...@subdomain.domain.it),
the ovirt infrastructure does not automatically insert this account in
the own db.

Something like:

script.sh < list-users.txt

where the file lists-users.txt consists of a sequential list of accounts
like this:

s000...@subdomain.polito.it
s000...@subdomain.polito.it
s000...@subdomain.polito.it
s000...@subdomain.polito.it

Thank you very much for your help

Nicola

2016-10-26 Thread Jiří Sléžka

Hello,

There were one vm with Video Type = CYRRUS and Graphics protocol = SPICE
(which is probably illegal combination). I have changed it do QXL, SPICE
(Single PCI is checked) and I was able to change cluster compatibility
level without problems.

Thanks a lot for advice!

Cheers, Jiri

Could you install the symbol maps assocaited with the obfuscated code so
 we
can get a readable stack trace. To install the symbol maps please run the
following command on the machine running the engine (or VM if it is HE).

 yum install ovirt-engine-webadmin-portal-debuginfo

Please restart the ovirt-engine process with

 systemctl restart ovirt-engine

after you have installed the symbol maps. Then next time you see the
message in the UI, the stack trace in the log should be readable and we
can help you better determine what is causing the problem.
