Re: [ovirt-users] NTP

2017-08-10 Thread Moacir Ferreira
Hi Sandro,

I found that I can install ntpd enabling the CentOS base repository that comes
disabled by default in oVirt. This said, the GUI gdeploy's generated script for
deploying the hosted-engine + GlusterFS is still expecting to disable chronny
by enabling ntpd. So my question now is if we need/should keep ntpd or if we
should just keep chronnyd.

[ovirt-users] Need some help understanding memory allocation

2017-08-10 Thread Wesley Stewart
I am a little confused on why my CentOS box is using so much RAM. I
currently have a small test setup which only has *12GB* of ram total.

When I log into the administrative interface it tells me:

*Memory*
4.3
Available
of 15.5 GiB
Over commit: 39% (allocated 45%)

11.1 GB Used

Currently I am only running 3 VMs with memory allocations as follows:

Defined Memory:
1024 MB
Physical Memory Guaranteed:
1024 MB

Defined Memory:
3072 MB
Physical Memory Guaranteed:
3072 MB

Defined Memory:
2048 MB
Physical Memory Guaranteed:
2048 MB
*Or 6144MB used by VM*

If I SSH into my ovirt host, and run TOP and sort by memory, the top usage
items are:
31896 qemu *21.5%* 727:21.44 qemu-kvm
 6008 qemu*14.6%* 190:33.70 qemu-kvm
 3019 ovirt*13.6%* 35:47.64 java
 5800 qemu *8.5%* 784:26.88 qemu-kvm
 2565 ovirt*3.9%* 62:58.00 java

Everything else is pretty small compared, but for the OVIRT/QEMU we roughly
get

*Total: 62% = 7.45GB*
So I am a bit confused as to the Ram being reported to me by the system
(15.5GGB, but the system only has 12GB), and assuming OVIRT is using around
7-8GB, does a bare minimal install of CentOS really need 4-5GB of Ram to
run?

This is a bare minimal install of CentOS7 running only Webmin and oVirt. I
think there are several things I don't understand here, and I am quite new
to oVirt and would like to learn, so please excuse my inexperience if this
is a silly question!

Thanks either way, I am really happy I ditched my ESXi box :D

In this case, please don't bother reintroducing ntpd as it makes more sense not
have it if it should not be used. Also, the final ISO image gets smaller...

Looks like a gdeploy bug. Adding Sahina and Sacchi. chronyd should be used

[ovirt-users] q35 + virtio-scsi: contention for sda between cdrom and disk

2017-08-10 Thread Richard Chan
q35 + virtio-scsi VM won't start because both cdrom and harddisk are mapped
to sda

I have created a q35 VM using virt-shell:

add vm --template-id ---- --cluster-id
16dc2c02-7d14-40a9-b170-cfdfdf63565b --name TESTVM --virtio_scsi-enabled 1
--os-type rhel_7x64 --custom_emulated_machine pc-q35-rhel7.3.0

When I try to start the VM vdsm shows:

ea86ae1b-893a-47ac-bde8-8c54b4c30e80

As a result the VM won't start. If the disk is virtio (vda) it works.
Anyway to remove the cdrom device from the VM definition?

[ovirt-users] How to create q35 + OVMF VM from 4.1 UI?

2017-08-10 Thread Richard Chan
I must be missing something obvious in the web UI, but I can't see where to
create a VM with type q35 + OVMF? In virt-manager it is under
Overview->Firrmware and Overview->Chipset. What is the equivalent in oVirt?

OT: I understand that RHEL 7.4 is having issues with OVMF VMs,

"Attempting to boot a guest virtual machine that uses the Open Virtual
Machine Firmware (OVMF) on a Red Hat Enterprise Linux host using the
qemu-kvm package currently fails, with the guest becoming unresponsive and
displaying a blank screen. (BZ#1174132)" However this BZ# doesn't seem
accessible to the hoi polloi. Any ideas what this is about?

I have no problem putting it in hosts, they are prepared using puppet, and the
public key is pushed at this time.

A simple service like /api/pki-resource that does the same thing that
/ovirt-engine/services/pki-resource?resource=RESOURCE&format=FORMAT would make
finding it much easier. It could simply send a redirect or wrap the content.

Code using the sdk already have all the http connexion stuff prepared, it juste
another sdk call. Calling /ovirt-engine/services/pki-resource make writing
custom code mandatory.
