Hi,
Looks like you are using older version of gdeploy. Can you please specify
the gdeploy version?

Hi William,

You can now upload image (and ISO) using image-io.
You can find more information about it here -
https://www.ovirt.org/develop/release-management/features/storage/image-upload/
 .

Once we have https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1593459 this
fixed, in 4.2.6 you should not have any issue.

[ovirt-users] uploading ISOs

2018-07-31 Thread William Dossett
Hi,

Before I go to the work of making my iso's available to the ovirt-engine so
I can use the iso uploader cli.

I haven't worked with ovirt for a while and the documents still refer to an
ISO domain and engine-iso-uploader the former which I understand is not
required now, just wondered if there was any easier way to upload through
the web UI maybe? I noticed an upload button under images. could that be
used for ISOs?

I remember that was something that put me off slightly working with Ovirt
last time was the number of steps I had to take to get an ISO available to
build a VM from, but if that's still the way I will soldier on.

Thanks

Bill

[ovirt-users] Migrating Legacy Hyperconverged Legacy switch type to OVS

2018-07-31 Thread Mike
Spent the better part of a day trying to figure out how to bridge OVN networks
with physical networks, only to later find out that "Attach to physical
network" has zero effect in a Legacy cluster... which started me down the
rabbit hole of "how do I switch the Default cluster to be OVS"

Then, I come up with the bright idea that I'm going to create a new OVS cluster
and migrate all the hosts there, well in order to do that you might:

   1. Put the Host into maintenance
   2. Install to UNDEPLOY the hosted engine
   3. Remove the host from the cluster
   4. Add the host to the new OVS cluster

However this has a nasty bug where the required networks won't ever sync I
believe because of some QoS settings (even though I haven't set that), so host
is not able to reach gluster storage, and this was not one of the 3 replicas,
it was just a client

So moving on just to test the waters with another angle, I UNDEPLOY on one of
the gluster servers, and then and only then after waiting however long it took
to install/undeploy, does it tell me that It can't remove this host from the
cluster because it holds gluster volumes.

How in the heck can I migrate what I have on Default to use native OVS?

Let's say I started fresh (I'm using oVirt Node 4.2.5) since I have that
optionI don't ever recall there being an option to select OVS as the
hosted-engine switch type, and it of course sets up the Default cluster for you
- which is the one I'm having issues with because it's legacy by default.

Thanks

[ovirt-users] Re: better understand ovirt-engine functions

2018-07-31 Thread stuartk
What do I mean by 'Hosts in Cluster B crashed':

I have (3) events (events during which I twinked with the Data Center A
network) during which I accumulated symptoms:
Event 1: A handful of the several dozen VMs in Cluster B Paused due to Storage
Issues. Restarted the VMs to restore service.
Event 2: Same
Event 3: One of the (3) Hosts in Cluster B rebooted (that's what I mean by
'crash'). gluster was unhappy also (two of the three Hosts also function as
Gluster Bricks) ... but that could be a byproduct.

At the start of Event 3, I put hosted-engine into global maintenance mode:
hosted-engine --set-maintenance --mode=global
Why? Because I was imagining that hosted-engine might perform some sort of
connectivity checks with its local IP gateway ... and if it couldn't reach it,
then emit some sort of 'shutdown' commands to *all* the KVM hosts it knows
about (yes, I'm waiving my hands a lot right here ... ergo my interest in
reading about what kind of checks ovirt-engine performs and what kind of
remedial action it might take based on the results of those checks).

You are suggesting that Cluster B depends, storage-wise, on Cluster A (or, more
precisely, on Storage located at Cluster A's site). That's where my thoughts
turned immediately ... but thus far, I don't see it in the pcaps I've gathering
-- lots of ovirt-engine traffic, but nothing else. More poking needed.

ovirt 3.5
glusterfs 3.7.6

I want to do more homework, to demonstrate that Cluster B has no storage
dependency on Data Center A.

But back to my original question: where might I go to better understand what
kind of checks ovirt-engine performs on KVM hosts and what kind of remedial
action it might take, based on the results of those checks?

[ovirt-users] Re: AAA question...takes long time to log in

2018-07-31 Thread Dev Ops
Thanks for responding.

Looks like we are using the first include option. We have lots of AD servers
around the world and latency never seems to be an issue. This option seems like
it would be fine for us but I did switch it to the recursive and that sped
things up drastically.

Thank you very much for your help!

[ovirt-users] Re: Direct LUNs and VM Pauses

2018-07-31 Thread Ryan Bullock
Sorry for the slow reply, was out sick end of last week.

Thank you Nir! You have been very helpful in getting a grasp on this issue.

I have gone ahead and open an RFE for resuming on a Direct LUN:

Thanks again!

to increase the ‘no_path_retry’ because it can cause timeout issues with

[ovirt-users] Extended DPDK support in oVirt[0]

2018-07-31 Thread Leon Goldberg
Hi,

oVirt support for DPDK was introduced in 2017[1], and is now enhanced in
terms of deployment via Ansible[2] and usage via OVN.

Compatible hosts and NICs can now be easily configured to use userspace
drivers, while usage is enhanced via OVN, allowing for both increased
performance and SDN usability.

For additional information and instructions, please refer to this blog
post[0].

Blacklisting the disks in multipath.conf did the trick, all good now.

When adding a new host, the process should run that blacklist all disks shell
script like the cockpit deploy does… if I may be so bold to suggest 😊

[ovirt-users] Re: API for attaching the ISO image and virtual floppy disk to the VM

2018-07-31 Thread Andrej Krejcir
Hi,

I don't know much about floppies, but looking at the API documentation[1]
and the code,
it seems that the API endpoint /api/vms/123/cdroms is only for cdroms and
not floppies.

Probably a floppy cannot be attached permanently to a VM. It can only be
specified when running the VM.

For example using this request:

POST /ovirt-engine/api/vms/123/start
Body:

I cannot test it right now, so I'm not sure it will work.

Andrej

Not sure but perhaps you should be using qxl-wddm-dod driver for
Windows 10?

I think that's not the one included in spice-guest-tools so you'd
need to download and install it from download in the Windows
binaries section at,
https://www.spice-space.org/download.html

Let me know if that helps.

[ovirt-users] Re: Hosted Engine deploy failed on new HCI build

2018-07-31 Thread William Dossett
Can you connect to it with VNC? That was a new one on me … since last working
with this. Actually this is the first time I did hosted engine deploy as I
used to use a VM on my vmware infra to do it so had no idea I could connect to
the hosted engine console until Simone helped me.

Hopefully you can connect with VNC … I was able to find the networking issue
very quickly that way, a LOT faster than starting over. I wiped and started
over like 5 times, but learned something each time.

I’m around most of today on and off and trying to fix some code for another
project but happy to have a look with you if you want to ping me.

Regards

Bill

The issue with the console device will be fixed for new deployment as for
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1561964

If you deployed in the past, you have to edit the definition of the engine VM
on the engine enabling the serial console device and reboot it.

in the mean time you can also use VNC as detailed below.

The person that helped me said to do the following:

Run on your first host
   hosted-engine --add-console-password
to set a temporary VNC password and then connect to it over VNC with something
like
   remote-viewer vnc://:

Which got me in and allowed me to fix the networking once I saw what was wrong…
can you get to the console like that?

Regards

Bill

I haven't had much luck with this yet I completely wiped the three hosts and
did the entire install over again from the ground up only this time I used dhcp
instead of static IP for the hostedengine deployment and ended up failing again
in the exact step as before, waiting for the VM to come back but never does.

I still feel like it could be network related in some way just not sure how.
Any ideas?

This is the current status:

Hostname : MASKED

Host ID: 1

Engine status : {"reason": "failed liveliness check",

This indicates that the engine VM is up at libvirt eyes but the engine could
not be reached over the network.

I'd suggest to open a console to the engine VM (also the VNC one) and check
it's network configuration.

If you are using DHCP, do you have a working reservation for that?

If I do hosted-engine --console I get:

The engine VM is running on this host

Connected to domain HostedEngine

error: internal error: cannot find character device

does anyone know why it may have failed or what I could do to recover from
this? I'm thinking it could have potentially failed due to some problem with
network config. If I could get a console in to the engine VM I might be able
to fix it but that serial error above is preventing me from reaching the vm
console to diagnose further.

Log of deploy attached:

Thanks!

2018-07-31 Thread William Dossett
Yeah, for sure, I think I made it over my last one yesterday…. Going to start
building out my storage today. I had to get down into the OS and work with the
logical volume manager commands a bit to clean up some of my mess and also
figured out how to blacklist the disks on my 4th and 5th host from multipath….
So that’s encouraging… if you need a hand feel free to ping me.

[ovirt-users] Re: Hosted Engine deploy failed on new HCI build

2018-07-31 Thread Jayme
I'm going to try a full rebuild again and see if I can get it working this
time. I will pay more attention to the networking and see if I can figure
out what is going on. How much more work does the scripts do after this
step I'm failing at? Is there any way to redeploy the engine without
having to wipe everything out? the last time I tried I got about 75%
through it but the gluster storage info didn't auto-populate on a second
run so I had to put it in manually but failed on a later step.

[ovirt-users] oVirt node 4.2.x - custom multipath.conf and external storage availability

2018-07-31 Thread Roberto Nunin
HI all

How can I provide to my oVirt hosts a custom multipath.conf, considering
that we are using shared/mirrored FC storage from HPE 3PAR with high
availability of provided LUNs, using peer-persistance feature ?

To configure correctly this require a custom multipath.conf is required.
How I can avoid it will be overwritten during upgrades ?

Second topic:
Is ALUA feature supported also in oVirt nodes, like for standard RHEL 6/7
and/or CentOS 6/7 ?

I was digging for a while into user's digest, but not able to find focused
informations.

This is the feature needed by peer-persistance, allowing two different
volumes to be masked toward a given host with the same WWN and LUN number.

Thanks in advance

[ovirt-users] Re: Disk Statistics API in oVirt

2018-07-31 Thread Andrej Krejcir
Hi,

Looking at the code, the disk statistics are only updated when the VM is
running.
It looks like a bug. Could you open a Bugzilla ticket, so we can properly
fix it?

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/enter_bug.cgi?product=ovirt-engine

Set the component to: Backend.Core
And oVirt Team to: Virt

Regards,
Andrej

[ovirt-users] MoM - Not working ? How to use it ?

2018-07-31 Thread jeanbaptiste
Hello,

I'm trying to test Memory balloon useful functionality, but l'm unable to make
it work successfuly.

Firstly, I enable the MOM on my Cluster:
Memory Balloon
Enable Memory Balloon Optimization

Secondly, I configure a VM virtual machine like this:
On system tab:
Memory Size : 28672 MB
Maximum memory : 28672 MB
On Ressource allocation tab:
Memory Allocation:
Physical Memory Guaranteed : 2048 MB
Memory Balloon Device: Enabled

Thirdly, I test
1- I boot the VM. After boot VM consume 200MB
2- I lauch perl program which consume 26GB.
3- During this, Host RAM usage is near 90%
4- I stop the perl program, and on guest side, RAM usage drop down to 200Mo
5- On host side, RAM usage keep to 24 - 26GB. I wait some time to show if the
qemu-vm process drop is host-ram-usage. Ram usage keep to 24GB.
6- I try to launch another VM like the first one (but with 8GB RAM and 2GB
Guaranteed) , on the host (to "force" Mom ?) but I'm unable to lauch it, Host
free mem is insufficient

I change MoM log to debug to show something:

[SPAM] [ovirt-users] Re: template disk attribute in version 4 restapi

2018-07-31 Thread like...@cs2c.com.cn
Thanks, Idan. I know that export domain is deprecated. But for now, we're still
using it in our project.
And we need to know which one is the bootable disk of vm/template in export
domain for security checking.
Diskattachments link is available for vm in export domain, but templates miss
the diskattachments link.
That's why i want to add the diskattachments link for templates in export
domain.
Or is there any convenient way to know which one is the bootable disk of
template in export domain?

Regards.

The API of the engine is specified by [1].
Specifically, what you're looking for is StorageDomainTemplateService [2].
However, I am not sure that it's worth adding features to the export domain as
I think that it's going to be (or already) deprecated.

Sounds like something's wrong.
I've just checked 4.1.9 and I do have the diskattachments link under a specific
template.
Can you say what you do have under /ovirt-engine/api/templates/?
This is the output I get in 4.1.9 under
ovirt-engine/api/templates/----/ (pasting only

Actually, it was added back in oVirt 4.0.
What happens when you try to GET from

Do you get an empty list of attachments or an error (404 not found)?

Hi,

The bootable attribute was moved, along with a few more attributes, to be under
a specific diskattachment, as it is an attribute of the relationship between a
disk and the specific VM it is attached to, rather than a disk (which can be
floating, or attached to more than one VM).
I am not sure that I understand the question. A template does have
diskattachments under /ovirt-engine/api/templates//diskattachments.
Which engine's version are you using?

the disk of the template is bootable or not?

Thanks

Yes, just that one.

This function:
https://github.com/oVirt/ovirt-engine/blob/master/packaging/setup/ovirt_engine_setup/engine_common/postgres.py#L712
it should take them from your 9.2 DB

Can you please attach the whole engine-setup log file?

[ovirt-users] Re: template disk attribute in version 4 restapi

2018-07-31 Thread Idan Shaby
The API of the engine is specified by [1].
Specifically, what you're looking for is StorageDomainTemplateService [2].
However, I am not sure that it's worth adding features to the export domain
as I think that it's going to be (or already) deprecated.

In the restapi of version 3, there is bootable attribute in disk. But
in version 4, the bootable attribute is removed from disk. For vm i can get
bootable attribute from diskattachment. But there

I work at a company with a massive AD infrastructure. Is there any way to
specify a specific OU to search through instead of just providing a top level
DN? We use sssd for all our authing needs on our linux machines and would like
to do something like below:

ldap_user_search_base = OU=Employees,OU=blah users,DC=blah,DC=com
enumerate = false

When I connect on cli it looks like Ovirt is reaching out and grabbing a ton of
info it doesn't really need. It takes on average 40 second to allow me to log
in on CLI or UI. This is not an AD issue as we use AD on everything in our labs
and have no issues with speed.

I applied these changes and it didn't speed anything up.

https://ovirt.org/develop/release-management/features/infra/aaa_faq/

I can see from a tcpdump that I am in fact hitting my local AD servers and not
going across the world to get an answer.

Do you use include or include ?

ad.properties is using LDAP_MATCHING_RULE_IN_CHAIN which means less
network requests to AD servers, but higher load on less AD servers,

to fetch users/groups information.

ad-recursive.properties is using more request on more AD servers to get
full users/groups information, but has higher load on network. So it's
bad if you have high latency on network, but good in case you have slow
AD servers, but good latency network.

Try both and you can see which will show better performance for you.

In order to modify baseDN of search user request, you may add to your
profile.properties file:

 search.ad-query-principals.search-request.baseDN =
OU=Employees,OU=blah users,${seq:_ad_baseDN}
