There has been lot's of discussion about that this week. I had same
problem with Opteron G3->Epyc conversion. There steps were suggested
to me and they worked and you problem is similar:

- set HE global maintenance mode
- set one of the hosted-engine hosts into maintenance mode
- move it to a different cluster
- shutdown the engine VM
- manually restart the engine VM on the host on the custom cluster
directly executing on that host: hosted-engine --vm-start
- connect again to the engine
- set all the hosts of the initial cluster into maintenance mode
- upgrade the cluster
- shut down again the engine VM
- manually restart the engine VM on one of the hosts of the initial cluster
- move back the host that got into a temporary cluster to its initial cluster

As first step I would add that you create new cluster which already
has 4.3 level and CPU Type you want so already can check if cluster
accepts nodes.

Thanks so much for the advice. I am able to log in, put the host in
maintenance mode, and navigate to the menus you indicated. The interface I
wish to have used for ovirtmgmt is green and available, but when I drag and
drop it onto the interface, I seem to get a spinning wheel or "Updating" with
no resolution.

Anything else I should do?

[ovirt-users] How to upgrade CPU type in Clusters?

2019-02-08 Thread Vinícius Ferrão
Hello,

For reasons unknown during oVirt 4.2 -> 4.3 my CPU type was Broadwell IBRS and
because of this I can’t upgrade the datacenter to 4.3. The problem was that on
4.3 theres only Broadwell IBRS SSBD and Broadwell.

So the only way to up the cluster to 4.3 was to downgrade to plain Broadwell.

Now I can’t upgrade it Broadwell IBRS SSBD.

So, how can I upgrade it back?

Thanks,

I am also seeing the same thing on a system I just upgraded from 4.2.8 to 4.3.
After the upgrade, I uploaded a qcow2 image and it remains in the "Completed"
state in the Disks tab of the WebAdmin.

The image itself works fine, I attached it to a new vm and it is running fine.

And as I said, I had the exact same issue on ESXi with Intel Xeon E5620, so
it's not related to AMD CPU's.

I'm wondering what cluster cpu compatibility version the Ryzen 2700 would
go under?
It used to default to Opteron G3 when I tried it before, which is now
"unsupported" as of ovirt 4.3.
CentOS 7 complains about "untested" CPU with Ryzen 2700 in my experience.
Maybe Fedora is better there.

Here are what shows up in the available cluster options... I'm not sure
where and how its defined for specific CPUs.

- AMD Opteron G4
- AMD Opteron G5
- AMD EPYC
- AMD EPYC IBPB SSBD

[ovirt-users] Re: Engine installation failed at - get local vm ip

2019-02-08 Thread Tailor, Bharat
Hi,

I am trying to configure with static ip address.
I don't have any dns server so using dns entry in /etc/hosts file.
Didn't try to set anything about mac address. going with system generated
settings only.

Which kind of storage are using?
Did hosted-engine-setup successfully concluded? if not can you please share
your setup logs?
if so can you please share agent.log and broker.log?

Yup, and nested is enabled.

The HE is booting and starting to run, I get the status messages about
starting etc, so it's not related to CPU functionality IMHO.

[ovirt-users] Engine installation failed at - get local vm ip

2019-02-08 Thread Tailor, Bharat
Hi,

I am trying to test ovirt hyperconverged setup. I've a dell server & using
vmware ESXi 6.7 as hypervisor. Prepared 3 VMs with cpu hw exposed.

VM1 - Ovirt node 4.2
18GB RAM
2*2 vcpu
nic 1 - for backend gluster
nic 2 - for frontend vm network

VM2 - Ovirt node 4.2
18GB RAM
2*2 vcpu
nic 1 - for backend gluster
nic 2 - for frontend vm network

VM3- Ovirt node 4.2
18GB RAM
2*2 vcpu
nic 1 - for backend gluster
nic 2 - for frontend vm network

I've configured gluster storage from cockpit and now trying to install
engine from same cockpit but setup failed at "get local vm ip".
I've gone through /var/log/ovirt-hosted-engine-setup file also but there
are so many log files and I haven't find any related logs. Please help me
to get out of it.

This procedure worked for our HE, which is on Skylake.

I think I have a process that should work for moving our EPYC clusters to
4.3. If it works this weekend I will post it for others.

I just use the run-one setup to specify the user/pass and

Everything works but the password doesn't.

If you don't have any backup of the hosted-engine VM, the best think you
could do is deploy hosted-engine from scratch and when you have the new
engine manually re-import the previous hosts and the previous datacenter.
I think that you should be able to do it even with running VMs but if you
want to be on the safest side I suggest to manually shutdown all the VMs
before the migration.

I got that error on a fresh 4.3 yesterday while creating a plain boring

be a bug somewhere else. Anyone else seeing this?

[ovirt-users] changes in oVirt 4.3 and vGPU?

2019-02-08 Thread Hetz Ben Hamo
Hi,

I just installed a Tesla T4 card, installed the nvidia's RPM, I see the
mdev_type stuff etc.
Following their instructions, I'm trying to set a Windows 10 VM to use the
vGPU (the VM works without any vGPU), I get this error in the event...

VM Win-10-test is down with error. Exit message: internal error: qemu
unexpectedly closed the monitor: 2019-02-08T14:01:11.287955Z qemu-kvm:
warning: All CPU(s) up to maxcpus should be described in NUMA config,
ability to start up with partial NUMA mappings is obsoleted and will be
removed in future
2019-02-08T14:01:11.313878Z qemu-kvm: -device
vfio-pci,id=hostdev0,sysfsdev=/sys/bus/mdev/devices/486b48a3-01c7-4a67-9727-279813bae0e8,display=off,bus=pci.0,addr=0x8:
vfio error: 486b48a3-01c7-4a67-9727-279813bae0e8: error getting device from
group 0: Input/output error
Verify all devices in group 0 are bound to vfio- or pci-stub and not
already in use.

Could someone explain to me what am I missing and what to do? I don't see
any docs about it.

Thanks

[ovirt-users] Re: Open_vSwitch no key error after upgrading to 4.2.8

2019-02-08 Thread Maton, Brett
I just tried the suggested patch/mod applying it with a simple sed call:

sed -i "75i\'--verbose=db_ctl_base:syslog:off'"
/usr/libexec/vdsm/hooks/after_get_caps/50_openstacknet

So far it appears to have squashed the no key "odl_os_hostconfig_hostid"
error message

[ovirt-users] Re: Forum available

2019-02-08 Thread Vinícius Ferrão
I’ve issues with HyperKitty too.

For instance, I've answered a thread today at 1:36 UTC-2:
Re: [ovirt-users] Re: need network design advice for iSCSI

I can’t found it chronologically in HyperKitty. If using the search feature, I
can find an answer from January 21th, but cannot find the message that I’ve
sent on the dawn.

I’m not even sure if the mail message arrived to the list or if it’s just an
HyperKitty bug.

Thanks,

[ovirt-users] Re: Agentless Backup update: Trilio Vault, pay $7500

2019-02-08 Thread Jorick Astrego
Hi,

We are currently starting an evaluation of
https://wiki.sep.de/wiki/index.php/RHEV_backup

Our experiences with the supplier are excellent and it has been out for
a while now.

Testing of the actual software is scheduled for this month.

I'm using openbacchus at the moment and have it working with oVirt 4.2.8
and 4.3.

As you know it's UI based so doesn't tick your command line box (yet ;) )

[ovirt-users] Re: Agentless Backup update: Trilio Vault, pay $7500

2019-02-08 Thread Sinan Polat

your experience we should stay away from it.

[ovirt-users] Deleted Hosted Engine

2019-02-08 Thread Manny SyS
I have to deal with this oVirt 4.2 cluster, 4 nodes.
It seems someone smartly deleted hosted engine vm... how cool... so, all the
VMs are still running, but no cluster management anymore :-).
It's a testing environment, no hosted engine backup.

I have no problems reinstalling the cluster... but I'd love to rescue the
VMs... so I'm trying to understand what options I do have, so I ask you please
if you have some hints, or maybe links to the right documentation.

- ssh to any ovirt cluster node and export the vms with virsh? possible?
- ssh to any ovirt cluster node and live migrate all the vms on one node? so
that I can reinstall a new cluster on the freed nodes? Wondering which one is
the correct path to do this... btw, virsh only works in readonly in ovirt
cluster nodes
- it's a testing environment, so I could shutdown everything, reinstall a new
cluster, reconnect the old storage to the new cluster... question is, how to
reimport all the vms in the new cluster.

Please any suggestions?

[ovirt-users] Re: Agentless Backup update: Trilio Vault, pay $7500

2019-02-08 Thread femi adegoke
For some weird reason, I don't see my original comments on the list.ovirt forum
pages.
Here it is:

Back in June of 2018, I posted regarding Agentless backup solutions.
Greg Sheremeta replied & mentioned Trilio.

The rest of the story...well just read on...
These guys at Trilio have turned out to be a complete waste of time. (I could
use some more colorful language)
After my post & reply from Greg Sheremeta, I followed up with Trilio.
A lot of promises/dates were made (by Trilio) as to when a beta would be made
available for testing.
Needless to say, they never came through.
Finally in Dec 2018, they said we are ready for the demo, we will show you a
working product.
The day came, Trilio said, sorry it's too close to Xmas, we will postpone the
demo's till 2019.
In 2019, I continued to follow up & finally they set a date for another demo -
Jan 29.
On Jan. 29, we get on the Webex, they said, sorry the demo just broke 10 mins
prior to our call, so no demo.
They show me some screenshots & their OpenStack version & again promise to get
me beta software in a few days.
I continue to follow up (via email)

Yesterday (Feb 6), I get an email from Thomas Lahive GM; Sales and Alliance
Partners(copied & pasted below):
"We started RHV betas and decided to prioritize current Trilio customers (those
that purchased Triliovault for Openstack).
If you would like to be part of the beta now then We can sign you up as a
certified Trilio reseller which has a $7,500 Starter Fee. The $7,500 will be
credited against your first customer order that is at least $7,500 so it will
eventually cost you nothing. Many of our partners can apply the fee against
revenue so it's a great tax incentive, but you can confirm with your finance
department.
Please Lmk how you would like to proceed."

Please remember, I have never seen a working demo of this product, never.
Is this typical behavior of RH partners?

We use hyperkitty, which is both a mailing list and a forum. It has a
search, threads, avatars, ...
Is there a use case we're missing or does just no one know about it?

I'm for it too. I love mailing lists but as others have pointed out
it's a nightmare to search them.

I'm also willing to spend a little time supporting it if it's phpbb

2019-02-08 Thread Josep Manel Andrés Moscardó
I guess that if people like the idea, we'll need to get the oVirt guys
involved in this too, and not sure how we should proceed with this, it
is not a matter of HW resources or time, but about who host the server
and manages it. Also this would need to be, at some point, announced as
a "official" replacement of the mailing list.

I am more that interested on helping to go this project further.

Cheers!

Absolutely.

Digging through mail archives is somethimes painful.

(and people
will still be able to subscribe and reply through email). Something like
Discourse would be nice in my opinion.

Best.

Actually, engine itself can take care of this.

You can configure the new nic through the UI, by clicking through
'Compute' > "Hosts" > (select the host in question) > "Network
Interfaces" > "Setup Host Networks".

There you can attach the desired network to the desired nic.
