[ovirt-users] Testing oVirt backup and Restore operations 4.3
There was a desire to conduct a test backup and restore operation ovirt-node-ng 4.3.2-2019031908 Operations performed: - Deployed two test hosts, configured Hosted Engine. Created two test VMs. - Created a backup copy # engine-backup --mode=backup --file=ovirt-full-backup_2023-09-04.tar --log=ovirt-full-backup_2023-09-04.log - Turned off the original Self-hosted Engine and disconnected from Self-hosted Domain Storage # hosted-engine --vm-shutdown # hosted-engine --disconnect-storage - Created a new host using a previously created backup # hosted-engine --deploy --restore-from-file=ovirt-full-backup_2023-09-04.tar Although an error occurred at the end of the installation (after the start of copying to the iSCSI shared storage), but oVirt is accessible via the Web. The error that occurred [ INFO ] TASK [ovirt.hosted_engine_setup : Check for the local bootstrap VM] [ ERROR ] Error: The response content type 'text/html; charset=iso-8859-1' isn't the expected XML [ ERROR ] fatal: [localhost]: FAILED! => {"changed": false, "msg": "The response content type 'text/html; charset=iso-8859-1' isn't the expected XML"} [ ERROR ] Failed to execute stage 'Closing up': Failed executing ansible-playbook ... Log file is located at /var/log/ovirt-hosted-engine-setup/ovirt-hosted-engine-setup-20230907201859-ovmmky.log In the Web interface - all Hosts are green - all VMs are green. There is a virtual machine "external-HostedEngineLocal". - Storage Domain "hosted_storage_old_20230907T202958" is present. Any questions: 1. The instructions say that at the end you need to reinstall the hosts. Is it necessary to do this? I ask, because in my case, all hosts are available to the manager, virtual machines are working. What is this operation necessary for? 2. What to do with the "external-HostedEngineLocal" virtual machine? 3. Why the "Error" error occurred: The response content type 'text/html; charset=iso-8859-1' isn't the expected XML"? Can it be related to the lack of access to the Internet (repository) have a VM Engine? When installing hosts, access to the Internet is required (otherwise the installation does not occur), I register access through a proxy in yum.conf ___ Users mailing list -- users@ovirt.org To unsubscribe send an email to users-le...@ovirt.org Privacy Statement: https://www.ovirt.org/privacy-policy.html oVirt Code of Conduct: https://www.ovirt.org/community/about/community-guidelines/ List Archives: https://lists.ovirt.org/archives/list/users@ovirt.org/message/FXH6HVGTZ3FEO43QOJVHYARGYEOOD4GU/

With the right automation and management, Fedora is an easy platform to work with. As for dropping OpenShift and pulling out of OKD, that would be ludicrous. All, I'd rather base against either Rocky or Alma in the shorter term, or Ubuntu/Debian for a longer view. oVirt IMHO is a superior product to anything else if you know your way around it. Fantastic and informative GUI, a great set of APIs, and pretty solid in terms of storage support. I'm running it hyperconverged over ZFS+DRBD with Corosync and Pacecmaker in a 2 node cluster. I'm currently running a cluster on Rocky 8 and it's working perfectly at the moment. I'm not a fan of Gluster for its small I/O performance but I'm sure it's still a useful option for running VMs with heavy storage requirements with lesser small I/O performance requirements. Fedora would get you fired from a lot of SME or enterprise environments. And with the mess around IBM/RH who knows if they'll drop OpenShift next and pull the devs out of OKD? ___ Users mailing list -- users@ovirt.org To unsubscribe send an email to users-le...@ovirt.org Privacy Statement: https://www.ovirt.org/privacy-policy.html oVirt Code of Conduct: https://www.ovirt.org/community/about/community-guidelines/ List Archives: https://lists.ovirt.org/archives/list/users@ovirt.org/message/FVSMQSPYXWJC3EO4IRM72HLPO3545V3O/

[ovirt-users] I login web interface using IP with Internal Server Error
Hi, I’m using ovirt version 4.5.4, and I want to log in to the web interface using an IP address. [ovirt-users] Direct LUN I/O errors with SCSI Pass-through enabled
Hi, in our environment (Version 4.4.10.7) we use fibre channel LUNs, which we attach directly to the VMs (as Direct LUN) with VirtIO-SCSI and SCSI pass-through enabled. The virtual machines run an application that requires 4096 as physical_block_size and 512 as logical_block_size. For this reason, we had to enable SCSI pass-through. Only with SCSI pass-through the correct physical_block_size is passed through to the VM. Now we have the following problem on just about every VM: Error messages of the following form occur in the VMs (in /var/log/messages): kernel: blk_update_request: I/O error, dev sdd, sector 352194592 op 0x1:(WRITE) flags 0xc800 phys_seg 16 prio class 0 This error message coincides with a crash of the application. The error message seems to belong to SCSI. We are currently trying to find an alternative to SCSI pass-through. We want to use VirtIO and somehow pass the physical_block_size. Since the XML files of the VMs are transient, we cannot make any changes there. Does anyone have an idea what the error could be or how to pass the correct physical_block_size? Could VDSM hooks help with this? [ovirt-users] Re: oVirt 4.5.4-1 OVA export generates incomplete XML tag in vm.ovf
Further investigations revealed actually two independent causes. 1. German umlauts (ä/ö/ü) in the description field lead reproducible to missing letters at the end of the exported vm.ovf file (sometimes one last character, sometimes the last two) A short test (only one) revealed, that the suggested changes to pack_ova.py fixed that problem. 2. If there are more than 26 .ova files in a directory, the import dialog throw the same error message, as if there was no file existent at all. ___ Users mailing list -- users@ovirt.org To unsubscribe send an email to users-le...@ovirt.org Privacy Statement: https://www.ovirt.org/privacy-policy.html oVirt Code of Conduct: https://www.ovirt.org/community/about/community-guidelines/ List Archives: https://lists.ovirt.org/archives/list/users@ovirt.org/message/UZY7XYAOWL6ZIOPWK5SU5NOAQ4QSIAOA/
