I can start three nested VMs in a single GCE instance and have them
communicating with each others but this is going to add another
virtualization level on my lab.

What I'm trying to do is to launch three different GCE instances with
Centos 7.4 and install on each of them the hyperconverged nodes. GCE
doesn't allow to enable mac-spoofing on instance's nics so I'm unable to
communicate with the engine from outside the host where it's installed.
To make a nested VMs to be accessible from outside the host, GCE suggest to
use a bridge network with iptables forwarding rules (
https://cloud.google.com/compute/docs/instances/enable-nested-virtualization-vm-instances#configuring_a_nested_vm_to_be_accessible_from_outside_the_host_vm
) but this is not going to work with high-availability.

So I'm trying to do something impossible.

@Sandro : this is a test environment. I'm learning to use oVirt in my
off-work time so I'm trying to see if I can move my learning platform from
a dedicated server to a cloud service.

[ovirt-users] Hosted-engine without mac-spoofing

2018-01-21 Thread Matteo Capuano
Hi folks,

i'm trying to install oVirt hyperconverged on Google Cloud Engine (GCE) to
create a lab environment.
Nested virtualization on GCE is in public beta, it seems to work fine but
there's a catch: i cannot enable mac-spoofing on the GCE instances' nics.
So here's my question: is there a way to install hosted-engine on a network
there you can't enabling mac-spoofing?

Thank you

Cheers

Maybe i could help you , what's your issue? I'd put my money on OVH network
configuration :)

In 4.2 we have a better OVN support which should definitively help there.
Why not write and share a small blog post with your oVirt on OVH hints?

I'd be glad to do it!
Maybe i'll be able to use some spare time during the holydays.

@Martin Sivak

- one of the new features of oVirt 4.2 is support for Replica 1 all in one
setup using hosted engine and gluster in hyper-converged mode.

Interesting. Maybe I don't understand it because I'm a newbie but...what's the
meaning of a replica 1 solution? I mean, if i have only one host where's the
replica?

Of course no replica with replica 1, but you could start like that then add
other 2 hosts in the future and gain replica 3 just with a little
reconfiguration and probably also without any downtime.

So it should be again possible to use just a single host for
everything, I am not sure we have a documentation ready for that
though.

Ciao Simone,

thank you for your answer.

My lab is a nested environmet. I installed ovirt on bare metal with the
engine on another machine. On this setup i have 6 VMs:

- 172.16.1.1 pfSense as firewall/gateway
- 172.16.1.10 a windows 2016 used as network guest
- 172.16.1.12 a nethserver installation as DNS server ( also on
172.16.2.12 )
- the three ovirt-nodes as i described on my e-mail

All the machines are pingable, only the engine inside host 1 is unreachable
and can ping only host1.

Cheers

Matteo

[ovirt-users] Self-Hosted engine 4.1.7 unavailable from the outside of the host

2017-12-16 Thread Matteo Capuano
Hi everyone, my name’s Matteo and I’m a new oVirt user.

I’m trying to install the gluster hyperconverged solution in a lab
environment following the How-To wrote by Jason Brooks:

https://ovirt.org/blog/2017/04/up-and-running-with-ovirt-4.1-and-gluster-storage/

Sadly, I cannot understand how to configure the network on the self-hosted
engine and I’m unable to make it available from outside the host.

As written in the HowTo I created three hosts (ovirt-note 4.1.7) each one
with two nics, one for gluster and one for management, the network is a
static LAN with FQDN resolvable (also reverse) by a local DNS. Here the
details:

Gateway: 172.16.1.1

DNS: 172.16.1.12

Host1: 172.16.1.210 (management) – 172.16.2.210 (gluster)

Host2: 172.16.1.220 (management) – 172.16.2.220 (gluster)

Host3: 172.16.1.230 (management) – 172.16.2.230 (gluster)

Engine: 172.16.1.200

When installing the engine I choose to brigde the management’s nic
(172.16.1.210) of host1 but, once the installation is completed, I'm unable
to reach the engine from the LAN where the hosts are connected. The engine
(172.16.1.200) can ping only host1 (172.16.1.210) and only host1 can ping
the engine.

As far as my network knowledge goes, to make the engine available from the
outside of host1 I would need to use a third nic or to use some device to
associate the ip and MAC address of the engine’s nic.

I’ve looked around over the internet for a solution but every how-to I’ve
found follows the same steps of Jason’s. I’ve also already asked for help
to Jason.

Anyone could help me to solve this issue?

Thank you
