SO I will upgrade my production host to 4.2.3 and hope all work fine.

Yeah, no, I worded that wrong, of course it is a regression. What I
meant was that something most likely has changed in how oVirt is
starting the VMs that is causing this. A good start would be for you
to compare the VM XML from 3.6 to what you have now, 4.2 was it? So
you can file a bug report to give the devs something to look at.

My hunch is that unfortunately not at alot of people run AMD clusters
which then don't get as much "love" as the other. Hopefully this'll
change to at least a 50/50 attention as AMD takes more shares of the
market, but it won't do any good for your old Gen 3 Opterons, so don't
hold your breath hoping for it to just fix itself, you'll have to
really push the devs to do something about it!

Good luck with it!

/K

As all my Host is AMD based, so no idea how to test further, May
be I will try to reinstall oVirt again to see does it work and
report again.
Remark: I could even migrate FreeBSD 10.2 and 10.3 to this
oVirt-4.2 but surely could not install new or migrate 10.4 or 11

The installation of the Engine seem to have succeeded, then it tried
to add the host. It was waiting for quite some time to get the host
into 'Up' state.
If, for example, it was installing packages, and the yum repo was very
slow, that may be a reason.

But there may be many other reasons as well.

Hi Paul,

I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble with the hosted engine
deployment process. I looked through the log, but wasn't able to find
anything to explain why setup failed to bring up the VM. To clarify,
did both of your deployment attempts fail at the same place in the
process with the same error message? Also, did you use the same
storage device for the storage domain in both attempts?

Our resident expert is out today, but should be back tomorrow. I've
copied him on this message, so he can follow up once he's back if no
one else has been able to help before then.

As far as the documentation goes, there have been major changes to the
deployment process over the last few months and unfortunately, the
documentation simply hasn't caught up and for that, I apologize. It
should be updated in the near future to reflect the changes that have
been made.

Re: [ovirt-users] Network Address Change

Hi Fabian:
Yes, it is my main concern will the Engine still recognise the node(s)
as there is no mechanism to knowlege the Engine the change when I change
the well known ifcfg-... files, and I think it will not detect the
change automatically
In my case it is just 30 more VMs and I could reinstall the host of
course but when it is few hundure VMs there should ne great issue using
oVIrt. However I have to try as just 3 days remaining for the data
center decommission.

Hey Paul,

if you are using oVirt Node (btw what version are you using?), then there are a
couple of files, there is
/etc/default/ovirt

and the well known ifcfg files:
/etc/sysconfig/netwprk-scripts/ifcfg-*

And some other paths which are handled by vdsm.

And vdsm is actually managing the network configuration when a Node is
registered, that means, it can be that any changes to the configuration files
get overwritten by vdsm again.

Maybe Toni can say something about this.

And I am also not sure if Engine will still recognize a Node, when you change
the IP of the Node, without letting the Engine know about that.

Sandro, do you know how you can tell Engine that the IP of a Node changed?

Greetings
fabian

Well, I think you can move the hosts to global maintenance, shutdown the
hosted engine vm, move the first host and the vm to the new network.
After that you should be able to move the other hosts to the new network.
When finished you can exit global maintenance.

Never tested such scenario so if any other can provide more info and maybe
create a wiki page it would be nice.
Not sure about what happen with the certificates if they've been generated
using ip address instead of FQDN, probably they won't be valid anymore
after the network change.

Hi All:
I find an issue in Thin Provision with oVirt, when I create a virtual disk I
click the option Thin Provision (assign disk space 30G and actually it use
1G only), so I should see in the storage this disk for nearly 1G image file
too. However it shows 30G image file.
Any hints could fix this for using Thin Provision?

Please check the file size with 'ls -ls'.

I can only recommend to try the following procedure in dealing with
virtio-blk and virtio-scsi:

Install Windows on a IDE drive; add a second image virtio-scsi.
After the installation finishes install the driver for the unknown
controller you find in device management with 'update driver'
Shutdown the vm, change the boot disk to virtio-scsi or virtio-blk
respectively and remove the second disk if you like.

Hope this helps,

I am new to oVirt and just installed oVirt for a try.
Any one could install Win Server 08 R2 with virtio or virtio
SCSI from oVirt 3.4?
I am already changed the driver during the installation with
virtio-win-0.1-74.iso, however I try what ever driver
directory for AMD64 it show the device but when I click to
select and then click OK, it always say No new device could
be found. Make sure the driver files are correct and located
on the driver installation media.
Does any other see this issue, and know how to solve?
Many thanks

Did you change back to your W2K8 iso after loading the driver?
The installer displays a very misleading message if you don't
have your iso back in the cdrom after installing the drivers.

Hi Joop
It should be show me the harddisk drive after the driver installed and
then change back to the installation media disc, but the case is it
could not load the driver correctly I could not see the harddisk drive
so even I change back the media disc should be no meaning?
