Bug is filed: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1247052

In the mean time, is there a workaround you could think of?

Re: [ovirt-users] GlusterFS Hyperconvergence

2015-07-06 Thread Tiemen Ruiten
Thanks Doron,

I would initially start with a 3 host cluster, possibly adding more hosts
later on. Is this enough to ensure integrity of the Gluster storage domain,
eg. in case of host failure?

What are recommendations (if they exist) for the type of Gluster volume for
a 3-5 host cluster (replicated or replicated distributed, number of
replica's)?

Would this setup already leverage libgfapi instead of FUSE?

[ovirt-users] GlusterFS Hyperconvergence

2015-07-06 Thread Tiemen Ruiten
Hello,

I'm in the planning stage of setting up a new oVirt cluster, where I would
prefer to use the local disks of the hypervisors for a GlusterFS storage
domain. What is the current recommendation (for version 3.5.x)?

I found this presentation which seems to suggest that it's possbile with
some caveats:
http://www.ovirt.org/images/6/6c/2015-ovirt-glusterfs-hyperconvergence.pdf

And a few open bugs:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1177791
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=115
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=113

What I can't find is current information on if this setup is already
possible with 3.5.x or it's better to wait for 3.6. Could someone enlighten
me?

[ovirt-users] ovirt foreman integration

2015-06-26 Thread Tiemen Ruiten
Hello,

I just tried to add a foreman instance as an external provider in the oVirt
UI, but the connection test fails with "unknown error". In the engine.log I
see this message:

2015-06-26 14:31:50,900 ERROR
[org.ovirt.engine.core.bll.GetProviderCertificateChainQuery]
(ajp--127.0.0.1-8702-3) Error in encoding certificate. Error is {}
java.io.IOException: Keystore was tampered with, or password was incorrect

How can I successfully connect to Foreman?

The Foreman instance uses a self-signed certificate btw.

This one doesn't have any relevant messages. Does this mean the changes are
not announced anywhere? I'm not talking about release changelogs, like
3.5.3 btw. I mean the equivalent of CentOS-announce or
fedora-package-announce.

Sorry, to be clear: no default disk policy exists for the 3.4 cluster

2015-01-05 Thread Tiemen Ruiten
Hello,

I just tried creating a thin-provisioned disk and the same problem (load
spike, non responsive VMs) occurred. I may have an idea what is going wrong
now. The following is an excerpt from the engine log after starting the
disk create job:

2015-01-05 15:12:14,277 ERROR [org.ovirt.engine.core.bll.SearchQuery]
(ajp--127.0.0.1-8702-1) Query SearchQuery failed. Exception message is

storage_pool_with_storage_domain.idWHERE
storage_pool_with_storage_domain.name LIKE 'XS4ALL-Strozzi' )) ORDER BY
name ASC) as T1 OFFSET (1 -1) LIMIT 100]; nested exception is

vds_groups_storage_domain.storage_pool_id=
storage_pool_with_storage_domain.idWHERE
storage_pool_with_storage_domain.name LIKE 'XS4ALL-Strozzi' )) ORDER BY
name ASC) as T1 OFFSET (1 -1) LIMIT 100]; nested exception is
org.postgresql.util.PSQLException: The column name disk_storage_type was
not found in this ResultSet.:
org.springframework.jdbc.BadSqlGrammarException: StatementCallback; bad SQL
grammar [SELECT * FROM (SELECT * FROM vds_groups_view WHERE ( vds_group_id
IN (SELECT distinct vds_groups_storage_domain.vds_group_id FROM
 vds_groups_storage_domain LEFT OUTER JOIN
storage_pool_with_storage_domain ON
vds_groups_storage_domain.storage_pool_id=
storage_pool_with_storage_domain.idWHERE
storage_pool_with_storage_domain.name LIKE 'XS4ALL-Strozzi' )) ORDER BY
name ASC) as T1 OFFSET (1 -1) LIMIT 100]; nested exception is
org.postgresql.util.PSQLException: The column name disk_storage_type was
not found in this ResultSet.

This cluster happens to be a oVirt 3.4 cluster, while the engine is 3.5.
There's also a 3.5 cluster managed by the same engine. Could this be
related to this BZ <https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1145241>?

Re: [ovirt-users] ERROR 'no free file handlers in pool' while creating VM from template

2014-12-16 Thread Tiemen Ruiten
About 25-30. The nodes are Xeon(R) CPU E5-2650 0 @ 2.00GHz with 16
hyperthreaded cores and 64 GB of RAM each. At the moment I created the VM,
processor load on both nodes was less than 1.

Re: [ovirt-users] VM => "No bootable device" on Centos 7 VDSM, 6.5 boots perfectly

2014-10-26 Thread Tiemen Ruiten
I have two CentOS 7 hosts in a 3.5 cluster, working fine. My storage domain
is iSCSI and I have only one logical network, no VLAN tagging. There's one
Centos 7 VM running in there and two Windows Server 2012 R2. Haven't tried
Centos 6 yet.

I have disabled firewalld, because otherwise the ovirt host installation
wouldn't complete.

Hello Lev,

It seems to have been caused by Ovirt Guest tools service that was left
behind and didnt't get updated. Looks OK now.

Re: [ovirt-users] ovirt guest agent iso

2014-08-04 Thread Tiemen Ruiten
Hello Lev,

That's right, attach/mount the iso through the ovirt admin interface, then
open the cd drive and double click on ovirt-guest-tools-setup.exe. I'm
using Server 2012 R2 Standard. The same thing happened on all 12 servers I
installed last week, but they were cloned from the same oVirt template
though. I will try to reproduce this tomorrow with a clean install and also
double check build number.

[ovirt-users] gluster split-brain on vm images volume

2014-08-02 Thread Tiemen Ruiten
Hello,

I have an oVirt environment backed by a two-node Gluster-cluster.
Yesterday I decided to upgrade to from GlusterFS 3.5.1 to 3.5.2, but
that caused the gluster daemon to stop and now I have several lines like
this in my log for the volume that hosts the VM images, called vmimage:

[2014-08-02 12:56:20.994767] E
[afr-self-heal-common.c:233:afr_sh_print_split_brain_log]
0-vmimage-replicate-0: Unable to self-heal contents of
'f09c211d-eb49-4715-8031-85a5a8f39f18' (possible split-brain). Please
delete the file from all but the preferred subvolume.- Pending matrix:
[ [ 0 408 ] [ 180 0 ] ]

What I would like to do is the following, since I'm not 100% happy
anyway with how the volume is setup:

- Stop VDSM on the oVirt hosts / unmount the volume
- Stop the current vmimage volume and rename it
- Create a new vmimage volume
- Copy the images from one of the nodes
- Start the volume and let it sync
- Restart VDSM / mount the volume

Is this going to work? Or is there critical metadata that will not be
transferred with these steps?

Tiemen

Well I decided to give the newest stgt version a go (1.0.48) and the VPD
Identifier error is gone, but I still get errors when validating:

"The port driver used by the disk does not support clustering. Disk bus
type does not support clustering."

So still a no.

I just tried that and Cluster Validation gives me this error for the
intended shared disk (direct lun, attached to two VM's, shareable,
privileged scsi):

"Disk bus does not support clustering. The required inquiry data (SCSI
page 83h VPD descriptor) was reported as not being supported."

In the report, the VPD Page 83h identifier is listed as .

This seems to be an issue outside of oVirt, stgt only supports this
field since version 1.0.46:
http://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-stgt/msg04349.html
Since I'm running CentOS 6 on the machine that hosts the scsi targets
which has 1.0.25, if RedHat hasn't backported that feature, it's not
supported.

All right, that's useful information. Maybe I didn't get my terminology
right: I want to host my VM-images on a GlusterFS volume, on a separate
storage cluster. Will it be possible to create a GlusterFS storage
domain on a CentOS cluster that utilizes that? Or should I use the posix
storage domain and specify glusterfs as a type? Is there any difference
in performance, since libgfapi isn't enabled anyway?

Well yes, I thought of that. But my reasoning was that if I only upgrade
these specific packages, there is less difference and less potential for
issues. On the other hand, CentOS 7 is mostly based on Fedora 19, so it
could work...guess I can only find out by trying.

[ovirt-users] 3rd party qemu/libvirt rpms and ovirt

2014-07-08 Thread Tiemen Ruiten
Hello,

I'm trying to setup a new oVirt environment based on F19 hosts, but I'm
running into so many issues, that I'm thinking of switching 'back' to
CentOS. However I would lose the advanced features (libgfapi, live
snapshots etc.) that are enabled in the F19 libvirt/qemu/kvm packages.
So after some googling a came across Alexandar Evseev's repository with
all the newest virtualization rpms packaged for CentOS 6:
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/aevseev/CentOS6/x86_64/

However, I can't find any information at all about the status of these
packages or any indication about stability. Is anyone familiar with this
repository and would it be possible to use these packages in an oVirt
environment?

Why is it the most natural choice? On
http://www.gluster.org/community/documentation/index.php/Network_Configuration_Techniques
mode 6 is recommended. My storage domain is type GlusterFS. Mode 6 is
not an option in the oVirt interface though.

Anyway, since the traffic seems to go out from the VM interface, through
the hypervisor bridge+bond and the switch and arrives at the
DHCP-server, could this really be an issue with LACP? What else can I try?

[ovirt-users] network issue with vm

2014-06-26 Thread Tiemen Ruiten
Hello,

I set up an oVirt cluster and created my first VM. However I can not
seem to get any network connectivity going. The VM is set up to receive
an IP address via DHCP. I can see the DHCP request come in on the
DHCP-server, but subsequently, the offer is lost somewhere. Even when I
configure a fixed IP, I can not ping any host but the VM itself and the
IP in the same VLAN on the hypervisor. My network settings are in the
attachment (output of sudo vdsClient -s localhost getVdsCaps > caps.txt
on the hypervisor). Is there something I should configure on the switch
maybe (it's a Cisco 3560G)?

My oVirt version: 3.4.2-1.el6 (CentOS 6.5)
The hypervisor hosts run GlusterFS 3.5.0-3.fc19.(Fedora 19)
The two storage servers run GlusterFS 3.5.0-2.el6 (Centos 6.5)

So I am NOT using local storage of the hypervisor hosts for the
GlusterFS bricks.

What can I do to solve this error?
