I was testing Open Bacchus and backups were ok.
One issue that I see is that one cannot define how many backup copies to
retain, unless I missed sth.

Additionally I have to ask that my san is configured with Ovirt. Now 
multipathing has to be done manually or it will take auto multipathing in ovirt 
environment!

I've never used it, but https://www.bareos.org/ could be a good product.
It isn't specific for VMs, but it can help.

You could look at https://github.com/openbacchus/bacchus to automate ovirt
vm backups.

You'd still need to do 'something' to move the vm images from the export
domain to your tape device though.
