Eric, If your speech recognition driver is a Java component serviced by the Oracle Java Access Bridge Jamal Mazrui's JWin installer process will correctly handle registration of both 32-bit and 64-bit JAB JAR packages. Download here: http://empowermentzone.com/JWin_setup.exe With additional details found here http://empowermentzone.com/JWin.htm As to effective use with LibreOffice 3.5.x Assistive Technologies which are 32-bit programs, I currently don't know. But you will have to enable Java support along with the Java based Assitive Technologies from the Tools -- Options menus. If you need us to poke around with it, let us know what speech recognition package you are using, is it an open source project, freeware or commercial product? Stuart -Original Message- From: Eric S. Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: libreoffice 3.5 inaccessible
Hi, unfortunately this didn't work. A jre is defective message comes up and the terminal rings a kind of error bell. I haven't done source code diving and don't know what was used to write libreoffice. But if I were to use source code diving, I'd locate the code that gets activated we're trying to make work and check it for a logic bomb which in all cases makes this jre is defective message come up. I'd find no conditional branches there and that would tell me that some programmer had deliberately disabled accessibility until that logic bomb gets cleared out of libreoffice. I think this entire situation is at 6's and 7's until those with knowledge of the source code can investigate it properly. If I found conditions like jre must be a certain number or list of versions, then I bet the most current versions of java are not on that list and we have an error since libreoffice doesn't let the user know what versions of jre are acceptable for installation when these jre error messages come up. Either way, it will need investigation of the source code by those that already know their way around it. Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: libreoffice 3.5 inaccessible
I forgot to ask, the keyboard sequence sent can turn java support on or off, what would be a sequence to use to find out which jre is in use and find out if it has accessibility enabled? I have java support turned on now, since enable accessibility didn't complain about java support being turned off when I tried to turn assistive technology support on. Am 05.06.2012 03:54, Jude DaShiell wrote: Okay if I go alt-t then o then j, what can I do with the keyboard to go further into these instructions? The system isn't speaking in here. Hello Jude, After hitting Alt+t and o you are in a tree control box where you hit j in order to land on the Java entry which opens another settings page right of the tree control. Wait a few seconds while the hard disk is scanned for installed Java versions. A stroke on the tab key leads you to a check box Use Java runtime environment (alternatively Alt+u). If this check box is off, the next tab leads you to the OK button. If this check box is on, the next tab should focus a 4-column list box of installed Java versions but the focus seems to be nowhere until you perform a mouse-click. The second accessibility glitch with this multi-column list box is: Each entry in that list box is preceeded by an superfluous option button in the first column. The second column shows the Java vendor, the third column shows the version number, a fourth column labeled Features shows optional infos. When I select different list box entries by arrow key or mouse click the entry is highlighted but the respective option button does not follow. The formerly chosen Java version remains checked which confuses even the sighted users. When I confirm the dialog with another Java runtime highlighted but unchecked, I changed nothing. We have to click directly on the preceeding button or hit the space key in order to actually select the highlighted entry including the leading option button. Beeing such a sighted user without knowing anything about screen readers, I can imagine one way how you get this to work: 1) If you manage to perform a mouse-click in the center of the screen area while the options dialog is in front and while Use Java runtime is checked, then you might have your focus in that multi-column list box. 2) Hit the space key which turns on the currently selected Java runtime in any case. The space key never turns OFF anything. 3) Hit Enter which triggers the OK button for the whole options dialog. I hope this helps. Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: libreoffice 3.5 inaccessible
Hi, I only have the single jre environment on this machine now. I did download python for windows since two blind programmers used it to write nvda starting back in 2006 so I figure it'll be an accessible development platform for me. I'm new at python since I've never been asked to use it at work and just recently got this windows7 machine. I'll start looking through those configuration files and see if I can find the offending lines and see if I can't correct a few things this way. On Tue, 5 Jun 2012, V Stuart Foote wrote: Jude, Andreas comments earlier about a list box apply if you have more than one JRE installed and is the reason I asked you to uninstall ALL your Java Runtime Environments and to then use the JWin installer with a new JRE installation, it was to ensure that you only have one JRE. To answer what alternative ways to activate Java and Assistive Technologies--both of which are disabled by default in LibreOffice 3.5.x--at this point with LibreOffice 3.5.x your only options are navigating within the LibreOffice Graphical User Interface (admittedly not very assistive since it does not respond to screen reader while configuring). Or, you have to directly edit the XML configuration files (again not very assistive). If you want to try to directly edit them, there are two configuration files you would have to work with. The Java Runtime can be toggled enabled true, or disabled false from the per user configuration file located at: C:\Users\your user name\AppData\Roaming\LibreOffice\3\user\config\javasettings_Windows_x86.xml file in the enabled xsi:nil=falsetrue/enabled stanza And the Assistive Technology tools can be toggled enabled true or disabled false from the per user configuration file located at: C:\Users\your user name\AppData\Roaming\LibreOffice\3\user\config\registrymodifications.xcu file in the item oor:path=/org.openoffice.VCL/Settings/org.openoffice.VCL:ConfigurableSettings['Accessibility']prop oor:name=EnableATToolSupport oor:op=fuse oor:type=xs:stringvaluefalse/value/prop/item stanza. I'm sure these edits could be scripted with a Windows shell or Python script. But at this point with just the one JRE installed (please double check that is the case), and with the Java Access Bridge installed using the JWin installer utility, it is simplest and most reliable making the configuration changes from the GUI. This is even more reliable if your user configuration is allowed to rebuild set to defaults. So, the next step you need to perform is to remove (or rename) your LibreOffice per user configuration file. When no longer detected, a new default user configuration file will be created. Any misconfiguration, plug-ins, extensions that may have been present from past installations will be gone from a new default profile. With a default user profile in place, it should finally clear any issues when you perform the two enabling sequences. That is, first Java with-- altt alto j altu enter Then the Assistive Technology with-- altt alto a a alta-- (or as I've been giving, tabspace) enter So, please perform these final steps: 1. remove (or rename)-- C:\Users\your user name\AppData\Roaming\LibreOffice folder 2. launch LibreOffice to allow default profile to be built 3. enable Java support 4. enable Assistive Technology Stuart p.s. for others reviewing this thread-- the AppData\Roaming path is for Windows7, if you enter echo %APPDATA% at a windows command window you will see the correct path to use for your user account. -- View this message in context: http://nabble.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice-3-5-inaccessible-tp3987924p3988351.html Sent from the Users mailing list archive at Nabble.com.
