What is in your /usr/share/tomcat5.5/webapps/xwiki/WEB-INF/hibernate.cfg.xml ?
Maybe it is not configured for mysql...
Please find the configuration file hereunder (without the commented out
parts). I think it is correct but maybe there's something I missed, like
a typo or else.
?xml
did you download the mysql connector? Also make sure that you uncommented the
mysql database in the hibernate xml file
Yes. I didn't in the first place but the problem remained unchanged
after I downloaded and put the mysql-connector-java-5.1.5.jar file
in
What is the name of your database ? xwiki or xwikiDB, I ask that
because by default it's xwiki and it's xwikiDB in your hibernate
config.
My database was named 'xwikiDB', which was the same name as the one in
my hibernate config file.
But maybe the database name is to be
Maybe you are in virtual mode:
If your wiki is in virtual mode (xwiki.virtual=1 in xwiki.cfg) then
the name of the main wiki is hardcoded to xwiki. It's a limitation
of the multi wiki support.
Yes! That's it :-)

I would say that a newcomer shouldn't look at platform. He should look
at XE, XEM, Watch.
Okay, let's say someone told you about xwiki to build your website,
giving you some examples like Curriki. You are interested and want to
see if it can fits your needs. You'll want to know how
The Curriki product doesn't exist yet. Right now Curriki is a specific
project and not a general purpose product.
Ok, replace Curriki by whatever xwiki-based website.
What is missing that you'd like to see on the web site?
If everything is already here and still so many
So e.g. I want to know how to make a site like Curriki. How should I
proceed? And first, in which section should I have a look? There's
something missing here, maybe just a few words that say to me 'hey guy,
if you want to build a website upon XWiki, it's that way!'
+1, we're mostly
Great! Perhaps you would like to contribute the skin, too, when it is
finalized?
Yes of course, I am working on it within the XWiki Concerto project, so
it is not for private use, but for the benefit of the community ;-)

This is very valuable information, il should be posted on the
xwiki.org :-)
If you deploy XWiki as the ROOT app, you must also change in
WEB-INF/web.xml the display-name parameter to the empty string, like:
display-name/display-name
To get rid of /view/, in xwiki.cfg write
... and since xwiki.org is a wiki, why don't you do it?
I wanted to let the author post it, I wouldn't want someone to just
copy-paste my work without my prior authorisation, and I would prefer to
do it myself (for credits). I tend not to do to others what I wouldn't
want to be done to
As you have noticed Sergiu is quite busy these days. I don't find it
nice to ask him to publish it when you could just help out...
Literally speaking, I didn't ask anything. I made a remark that
intentionally left all options open (including asking me to do it of
course). I did not
I forgot to give the link to the page:
http://platform.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Main/NiceURLs
It is done. I have put it under AdminGuide.WebHome. It is just a
copy/paste of Sergiu's text with some wrappings. Due credit is given in
comments. Any suggestions are welcome. And as stated
the process.
Thanks.

That would certainly increase public interest into XWiki. And beyond
the profits that have been described before, it could also be a good
test to see where the documentation is failing, so we could improve it.
