With the advent of the 2.4 kernel, that may be argued otherwise. (No flames
please, I am a FreeBSD user myself).
Besides, there already is a toaster howto for FreeBSD;

Sometimes telnet to port 110 on the machine and trying to login using pop3
commands can produce readable error messages. Why don't you try it to get
some more hints about what the pop server is not able to do; i.e.
(on the same machine)
#telnet 127.0.0.1 110
(pop3 message)
user username
pass
that
vpopmail is run on then you have to get qmail-pop3d (or something)
listening and serving pop3 requests on this machine also; albeit to serve
only localhost or 127.0.0.1 or whatever...

However, the above is only for a qmail+sqwebmail setup.
I would like to use filtering with a vpopmail+sqwebmail setup, filtering
rules to be made up on sqwebmail.
Has anyone done this?

I maybe wrong, but why are you getting
gcc -I/var/qmail/vpopmail/include -g -O2 -Wall -I.. -I./..
-L/var/qmail/vpopmail/lib -o authdaemond.plain authdaemond.o
authdaemond.plain.o ...
What is in /var/qmail/vpopmail/include ? How did that get there ?

The very first feature described of Sqwebmail on its Features list is
- Very lightweight. Reads mail directly from maildirs.
Plus it was made to work well with vpopmail, et all. It does not need
qmail-pop3d.
The only reason you would need qmail-pop3d (served with tcpserver or
otherwise) is
As Ken says, one way would be to run clearopensmtp if you have compiled
vpopmail with --enable-roaming-users=yes. Otherwise, in the directory
that has your tcp.smtp file, just do
/path/to/tcprules tcp.cdb tcp.tmp tcp.smtp
that will produce a cdb file by the name of tcp.cdb in that
Hello Alexus
Did you try the FAQ No. 28 in the latest vpopmail release?; i.e. you have
to add an ENV in your shell before you run the configure script. This may
work for you, depending on where your mysql libs are,
env LIBS=-L/usr/lib/mysql -lmysqlclient -lz
./configure etc.,etc.

I have been mulling over this for sometime. I still don't feel comfortable
putting the development versions into production; too many frequent changes
that might be necessary. So I am still with the stable version of vpopmail
with a working vconvert.
However, there is an interesting script
stuff (system, crons, servers, etc)
including mysql, and in the mysql section you canpoint and click your way to
a back up.
But theres always the better way of RTFM at mysql.com and learn how to do
it.

Hi All
Just to give a quick update on subject modifications. First two worked
(thanks Bill Shupp), the 3rd didn't (Sorry Agus Basyari that I couldn't get
it to work).
Details: I am running vpopmail 4.9.10 + qmailadmin 0.45 + sqwebmail 2.1.1
on a GNU/Linux box.

It seems like your vpopmail programs could not connect to your mysql
server. Did you read README.mysql? You have to put the connection
parameters into vmysql.h BEFORE compiling vpopmail.

I think I will try Agus's patch, it sounds easy.
Although putting in a flag in vpasswd file/table against a user seems more
sensible in the long run, it sounds rather complicated as a lot more
related code might have to be changed. I guess Ken can decide on this for
a new release, along with

You have to set the environment to pick up the library paths before running

At the begining of your sqwebmail configure add this:
env LIBS=-L/usr/lib/mysql
think it's just
buggy... Try .23's version of vconvert. Maybe it's not broken as badly.

Hi,

I agree that this poses a problem. It would be great if the
hostname/dbname/username/password for SQL lookups could be put in a
configuration script instead of having to compile them into the binary.

Hi,
I am trying to install the newer version 4.10.24 over 4.9.10. But it seems
vconvert is not working at all in version 4.10.24. It doesn't produce
anything, not even if it is run without any options (should produce the
help menu?).
The binary is a lot smaller than in the earlier versions
I've written about this error earlier. Ken Jones answered that it has to
do with mysql expecting a mysql_close() function from vpopmail. He said
that it is a trivial error and should not pose any problem
whatsoever. Specifically ;

I would like to try this also. Did you get any answer on your

Hi

Are you saying that this cannot be done with other mail programs like

If other mail programs are the same, then the next question would be; do
