Okay, I was able to get the postmaster password. I updated Vpopmail

installed vQadmin and was able to change it. Yet did I know that I
 could
of simply used a command that is used to change the postmaster
 password:
 Under root, do:
 ~vpopmail/bin/vpasswd [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Then it'll ask for the new password wanted.

On the new server, I've created the domain that I need. Then I'll go
under that domain in the old server and 'zip -r email *' which zips
 all
 of
the contents recursively. When I download that 2GB file to the new
server and unzip it. I can't login to the Qmailadmin program using
 the
postmaster pass. However I use the command to change the password -
however the email accounts listed aren't viewed correctly. It won't
 tell
me the correct used space and/or correct quota. When I try to edit
 the
user I get an Internal Server Error

Is there something I can install on both machines that's made to
 transfer
accounts from one QMail setup to the other?

they dont have to, match, but the uid's and gid's should match, unless
you dont mind going through and fixing permissions...

as long as they do, then you can add the --perms argument to rsync
(along with other args), and it will move stuff over for you.

 http://samba.anu.edu.au/rsync/

also, if you are doing a hard cut-over of IPs, then tar would probably
be quicker. you can pipe tar over ssh even...

now, as far as why the passwords/disk usage displays incorrectly,
something tells me that there are permission problems within the
 ~vpopmail/domains.

short answer yes.

google 'qmail migrate to new server'
for more info. you may also have to move files that are specific to
your installation...

Subject: [vchkpw] Inter7 announces eMail Messaging Policy Framework (eMPF)
open-beta

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hello, everybody!

eMPF allows mail administrators to set messaging policies for their local
mail users by stating who can message who, and who cant message who, and by
setting domain-wide policies along with exceptions to that policy. This
patch will of course be GPL, however, because of the nature of the patch, we
are not releasing it for immediate download.

If you are interested in signing up for the open-beta, please be aware of
the following requirements:

Technically savvy enough to apply the patch, and compile with
some very basic instructions

A willingness to provide some feedback on problems encountered,
pros cons, and implementation ideas

At least one mail server which sends and receives mail for both
internal and external (accounts not hosted locally on the
server) users

As an open-beta user, you should also be aware of the following thing:

This software is beta, and though we've done our best to test
it internally for any problems, it could break.

Because we arent making the software immediately available for
download just yet, we kindly ask open-beta testers not to
re-distribute the patch to others. However, feel free to pass
this message on to other administrators who may be interested
in being a part of the beta test.

If you're still interested, please subscribe to the eMPF mailing list by
sending an email to [EMAIL PROTECTED], and then send a short message
to the list with basic information about the mail server(s) you wish to
apply the patch to (number of user accounts, approximate mail volume, etc).

If you're just interested in the development of eMPF, you may of course
subscribe to the list as well. You arent required to take place in the
beta.

Thanks!

Just throwing a guess out, if your backend authentication method is cdb,
there may be a corruption in the vpasswd file after the 'm' users.

If it's occuring only on a single domain, I'd suggest taking a look at the
plaintext (not cdb) vpasswd file that is located under the domain directory.
Open it up and look for the last user that vuserinfo displays. If there's a
corruption, the next user entry should be the line that contains it.

setuidgid approach kindly use the other command to load the queue

setuidgid qscand /var/qmail/bin/qmail-scanner-queue.pl -z
setuidgid qscand /var/qmail/bin/qmail-scanner-queue.pl -g

I get this error when I run this command

/var/qmail/bin/qmail-scanner-queue -z

During the QMailRocks installation. The installation has been error free
until this section of the install process. I am debugging a 451 qq
temporary problem error with qmail. This is the only error that occurs
during the install process.

I asked for advices. Yours is welcome to me. Thanks again! :-)

if you (can) have the webmail on the same server, use sqwebmail

Well. The mail server is on the same machine. Let's see how does it
(sqwebmail) behave for multiple virtual domains. 'cause the mail server
hosts many domains.

Re: [vchkpw] Re: SMTP Auth delay...can it be sped up ????

2005-01-14 Thread Rizwan Iqbal Malik
i've followed the qmailrocks installation method. But i've a problem i
need to port the old mails to this new mail server. the problem is the
old mail server is using mbox format and the newer one is using Maildir.
is there a way to convert these mbox messages to Maildir mails.

Actually I did...but then I found the problem. It was the user and group
of the .pem files. It looks as though when my corn job ran
update_tmprsadh, the script changes the user and group. That broke it, I
updated the script to make the user vpopmail.vchkpw and it's all good. I
tested it from about 5 different clients across 3 OS's and now it takes
about 5 seconds. MUCH BETTER...thanks for sending me down the right
 path...

It takes from 20 to 40 seconds to send an email...that's horrible. If
I disable TLS it's immediateI can see qmail-smtpd just sitting
there while it's authenticating..the entire time. Should I use
http://inoa.net/qmail-tls/ instead of Bill Shupp's patch

Hi, I think your problem is not related to vpopmail. I think you missed
few steps from Bill Shupp's setup. You should run make tmprsadh from
qmail source directory and setup a cronjob that updates three files:
  /var/qmail/control/rsa512.pem
  /var/qmail/control/dh512.pem
  /var/qmail/control/dh1024.pem
If you followed Bill Shupp's tutorial you could insert a cronjob like
  this:
  01 01 * * * /var/qmail/bin/update_tmprsadh

  Best regards
