RE: vpop and pine..

2001-07-18 Thread Matt Simerson

Hardcore unix veterans don't use PINE. :-P

Hardcore folks won't use anything that doesn't use vi as it's editor. I'm
not hardcore, I've only been using unix for 12 years so I use pine because
gack a) I've already hacked it to support Maildir b) It supports
POP/IMAP accessing my other mailboxes c) it's installed on every mail
system I have an account on (including those I don't administer).

Of course you have to be running PINE as the user that the maildir is owned
as but I do it this way on my personal mailbox:

~matt/domains/simerson.net/matt/Maildir is my maildir. In my $HOME I have a
symlink that points Maildir to that directory. It works just fine.

I'm using qmail+vpop+qmailadmin and I'm curious if there is a
 way to use
pine w/ this setup? I have some hard core unix veterans who
 are whining.

Nice suggestion, but that would just open up a world of hurt on a multi user
spectrum :)

He did say they were hardcore right?

In that case each user has their own domain. I didn't say it scaled, just
that it worked. ;-) The whole idea behing vpopmail and toasters in general
is that users don't get interactive logins and thus can't run PINE or any
other MUA on the server.

If they're hardcore then they're running Unix on their workstation and can
access their mailbox from PINE on their system connecting to the vpopmail
servers using POP or IMAP.
