Vdr find the card but can't tune any channel. Femon plugin show me

Last night I understood why I was not able to use the card with VDR: I'm
using a 64-bit.

I tried the same firmware and drivers in a 32-bit os and everything
worked correctly.

No problem here - working for more than one year at 64bit Debian (Sid->Lenny-

Squeeze).

I finally find out what was wrong with my system: extension patch 77 for
vdr 1.7.0 put ko my hwr4000.
With this patch applied (vdr-1.7.0-ext_h264-s2ng-speedup.diff) to a
vanilla 1.7.0 source hwr4000 won't work.

On same system, vdr 1.6.0 and 1.7.7 work well.

Then you did something wrong in your x86_64 system : it works fine here.

New S2API kernels like 2.6.25 have more or less supported the card out of
the box either via old driver API or via newer S2API. (Some kernel version
between those had some bug... but I am at the moment using this hard with
Mandriva 2009.1 (kernel 2.6.29) that works just fine.)

In addition of the driver, you need to install also the firmware.
(see http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Hauppauge_WinTV-HVR-4000)

For daily use I use still vdr-1.6.0 that shows me the dvb-s channels by
using the old driver interfaces, but does not yet support dvb-s2.
I have however tested with vdr-1.7.4 that dvb-s2 channels works with it ok.
(VDR 1.7.0-1.7.3 did not work for me with hvr-4000)

I have not recently tested does the latest vdr developer versions support
now both the dvb-t and dvb-s/s2 simulteneously from the same card, but at
least with older vdr versions that S2API feature was not working with vdr.
(There are separate frontend for dvb-t and dvb-s/s2 under single adapter)

Re: [vdr] Status of WinTV-HVR-4000 card!!

2009-05-25 Thread Mikko Tuumanen
I have one "Hauppauge WinTV-HVR4000 DVB-S/S2/T/Hybrid
[card=68,autodetected]" at work.

Currently there is
- Debian 5.0.1 (lenny) with
- self compiled 2.6.29.2
- dvb drivers from hg, pulled around 11.5.
- vdr-1.7.7
- streamdev-server from vdr-developer.org CVS

With this setup I am finally able to tune and receive DVB-S2 channels. I
don't know what was the problem, but all earlier attempts failed for
some reason. These are not minimum requirements for version numbers to
get it working, just an example of something that works.

For example these two channels can be received:
ANIXE
HD;BetaDigital:11302:hC23M5O35S1:S19.2E:22000:255=27:0;259=deu:0:0:4900:1:1007:0
ASTRA HD
+;BetaDigital:11302:hC23M5O35S1:S19.2E:22000:511=27:0;515=deu:0:0:4901:1:1007:0

>If you want to use this card for both sat and dvb with vdr, I suggest
>you to buy 2 different card

I agree. AFAIK the HVR-4000 can't receive DVB-T and DVB-S/S2 at the same
time, so it would be a good idea to buy a (cheaper) S/S2-only-card and a
separate card for T.

VDR doesn't seem support the DVB-T side of the HVR-4000. Now that I
tried, I get a "channel not available" when trying to switch to a T
channel. It is probably because VDR doesn't open the adapterX/frontend1
device that is used to control the DVB-T receiver.

The DVB-T side of the card works fine with tzap or any application that
can be told to use the frontend1 device. Analog parts of the card are
also supported. I haven't tried analog tv, but the composite input gets
me some kind of picture. There is also a /dev/radio0, and it can produce
at least static.

BTW, has anybody succeeded in decoding anixe hd or astra hd+ with vdpau?
Every time I've tried, the result has been mostly garbage and usually
kill -9 to Xserver and xine is needed. Popcorn hour networked media tank
decodes those channels much better. So far I have only tried using xine,
mplayer, etc through streamdev, (not xineliboutput yet)

If you want to use this card for both sat and dvb with vdr, I suggest
you to buy 2 different card, one sat(-S2) and one dvb-t or one sat-card
and one usb-stick for dvb-t.

PS: I hope someone misleading me so I might be able to use the full
functionality of this card.
