Re: [vdr] Yaepghd record dialog

2009-11-24 Thread Stuart Morris
Thankyou
The patched yaepghd now silently adds a timer (or deletes one if it already
exists) for the selected event.

The help bar is behaving strangely. I had no rgyb ellipses. Even when I
re-implemented the ellipses in the code some were coloured some were not and
some would be coloured depending on what event was selected. Are you using a
different theme to the one included with Yaepghd? If I edited the background
png were the help bar is making it black I could see the coloured ellipses.

I'm not the developer of the yaepghd

the source code. Many things of the record dialog have
 already been
implemented, but the record dialog isn't called anywhere in
 the source
code. So I think this done intentionally. I implemented a
 small patch,
that adds the possibility to set timer with the red button
 without any
record dialog. The patch attached contains also some other
 minor
improvements from other authors. If you have questions

patch, you can ask at vdr-portal.de

I have been trying out the yaepghd plugin. It looks
 very impressive
but the record dialog appears to be disabled. Does
 anyone know if this
has been intentionally disabled or is only partially
 implemented?

There has been no development activity on this plugin
 for about
  9 months now.

Just a quick comment/question: have you considered changing the recording
filenames to something else than *.vdr while doing the switch to TS? It's
not that big of a deal, but distinguishing recordings from VDR's internal
files, index.vdr and friends, by using eg. *.ts for recordings would help
cases where apps are registered to handle files based on their filename
extension and we want to use those apps to playback recordings and think that
they can playback index.vdr etc.

Since the new recordign format will be a real Transport Stream, I will
most likely change the names to *.ts - after all, VDR itself also needs
to be able to distinguish betwen PES and TS recordings.

Will the TS mods that Klaus is currently working on mean that the full

The PES to TS switch will only change the way VDR records broadcasts
and performs live viewing. There will be no more TS to PES conversion.
VDR will still record separate programmes, though. It won't record the
 entire TS.

OK ... for replaying the TS stuff on a FF DVD card you need a simple
remuxer which does TS - PES with max. 2048 bytes per frame, do you?

Not really.
Currently I`m testing things in Transfer Mode, and what I do is to
simply strip the TS header and send the payload to PlayVideo() and
PlayAudio(), respectively.

Re: [vdr] to record or not

2007-02-05 Thread Patrick Mackin
Well, I would actually prefer it built in to vdr. Heck, I'd prefer that vdr's
on screen EPG was as nice as yaepgs. I suggested the reminder belong in a
plugin because the record timer in yaepg is more advanced / user friendly than
the one built in to vdr. I may be mistaken on this--I am new to vdr and
linux-- but I thought that yaepg was using its own timer features and not
simply providing a nice front end GUI for a vdr function, and it also seems
most people use a plugin such as yaepg. However, I agree it would be
beneficial for this to be a part of vdr. So if yaepg is simply calling vdr's
record timer when you go to a program and click OK to schedule a recording,
then it should be fixed in vdr. But I also know that Klaus is busy with many
other planned features, and that vdr, while usable on a clean install, really
needs lots of plugins to make it work more like a set top box. I too was
surprised there was no reminder. I am also surprised at the poor search epg
features, as these seem basic and easy to implement.

It makes absolutely no sense for a reminder feature to be done via plugin.
This is a very common and basic feature offered in most dvb-c and dvb-s
receivers. Honestly, I was surprised to find out vdr didn't already have it
implemented because it -is- such a basic function. Logically I don't see it
anywhere else other than the core code. I'm not sure why you mention yaepg as
that's just an alternate means to view guide data. Yaepg has nothing to do
with timer functionality or reminders. Maybe you could elaborate more on how
you came to your opinion on this?

It was suggested before that people can just set their timers to record for
0 or 1 minute (forgot which it was) so that it doesn't waste harddisk space
but this is a terrible solution as it still creates unneeded/unwanted files
and directories that you would have to go clean up. There's simply no
reason for that.

I suggested this feature to Klaus a long time ago and his reply was that
it's on the TODO list, but unfortunately at the bottom. I wouldn't think
it's a hard thing to do, just add a Record? (y/n) flag to the timer data.
If the record flag is set, it records, if not it only changes the channel.

At any rate, it is something that Klaus has considered.
