That's kind of an expensive way to avoid typing one command.

Hello All,
I am looking to migrate my windows 2003 32 bit netbackup master/media server
to Redhat 64 bit enterprise edition.
What I am looking for is for advice what I need to watch out for as far as the
config/migration etc..etc..
My support contract with a local company suggested to use
You want to go from a windows master to a Unix master.. ho boy!
Been there Done that.
If you want to bring your database with you, then yes, you will need to use
Symantec services to do the migration... otherwise they will not support you...
or so they told me.

As have we - were successful back on NBU 3.4 going from Windows to Solaris.
We changed host names while we were at it.

One issue you will have is the image files are not compatible from
Windows to unix and vice versa. So you would have to do a cat_convert on
them all. At least that was a 5.1 issue and still lives today I believe.

Mark,
For a single instance, I agree. For organizations that are constantly changing
retention of data and need to keep track of the original expiration dates and
manage shared data, especially for legal holds, it's an excellent solution.

I got a bunch of expired tape and I need to cross check external barcode and
recorded media ID. I tried mounting the tapes using robtest, and did a
vmoprcmd. RecMID field is blank. Is there any other way to read the RecMID ?
TIA

Shyam,
This should work for if you have a Unix master/media server. It will
work on Windows as well, but you'll need to obtain the dd and mt
commands from a 3rd party.

Consider this a posting then Ed. =)
Did several Windows 2003 to Solaris 10 migrations at my old employer of huge
(1+ TB) NetBackup 6.5.x Masters, including keeping the catalog info and
changing the hostnames. Spent a few weeks with rsync copying stuff from the
Windows Master to a new Solaris
