2007-05-31 Thread RKastner

Hello Curtis,

thank you for your response. Quantum is involved in this case. Meanwhile we
have done more tests, cp and GNU tar works on this snfs filesystem. Today i
will try the Veritas tar, thanks for your hint.

Re: [Veritas-bu] Netbackup 6 upgrade - special policy types

2007-05-31 Thread Hampus Lind
Hi Jeff,

We did not see any problems when upgrading from 5.1 MP5 to 6.0 MP4 for:

- Oracle RMAN

- Mssql

And we did not change anything on either the client or master/media side to
keep these systems running.

Cheers,

OK we’re getting ready to do upgrade from 5.1 to 6.0 mid-June.

I’ve seen all the notes about being sure to clean up catalogs etc… and my
coworker who is planning the upgrade has run the nbcc and done all sorts of
other preparations.

My question is does anyone know of any special actions that need to be taken
for backups such as:

Exchange

Oracle RMAN

Microsoft SQL

If you only know information about one of the above please provide that –
I’d just like to be sure there’s nothing we’re missing on these things
especially since the latter two at least are typically initiated from client
side.

Re: [Veritas-bu] Exchange Backups

2007-05-31 Thread WEAVER, Simon (external)

Ok so has something changed? What version of Windows is Exchange running on?
What version of Exchange?
Any recent updates or patches applied.

What is the throughput you are seeing now? Is there any Anti Virus running
on the box that is scanning files on this Server?

Subject: [Veritas-bu] Exchange Backups

Hello All,

Something crazy is happening. My exchange backups use to take 6 hours to
complete but for the last couple of days it has been taking a day and a 1/2.
I was wondering if anyone has run into this issue before, and what they did
to correct it.

My Environment

Netbackup 5.1 MP5 running on a Solaris master and a Linux media server.

  Thanks,

Matt

[Veritas-bu] Netbackup SAP backup script

2007-05-31 Thread Monique de Klerk
Hi

Are there any naming convention rules on scripts created to backup the
archive logs?

I've come across the following problem:

- When initiating a backup it fails with error 29 (failed
trying to execute a command).

- The script it calls is named: brarchive_svc.cmd (brarchive
being a command)

- When you rename this script to test.cmd it works perfectly.

Has anyone come across a similar problem, where the script name contains
a command?

Kind regards

Re: [Veritas-bu] Netbackup 6 upgrade - special policy types

2007-05-31 Thread smpt1
Upgrade your master server and media servers to 5.x. Put the latest 5.x patch.
Work your installation to see if there is any problem. My opinion is to stay
there.
If you want to upgrade, open a case to veritas to check your database. When
finish upgrade your master server to 6.0MP4. Then your media servers. Finally
upgrade your clients and agents directly from 4.5 to 6.0MP4.

Read carefully the installation manual, and the technote
http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/285590.htm
Also take a look to http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/285223.htm

Finally have the veritas tech phones near to you when upgrading:

You have a lot of homework to do. Go to support.veritas.com, then
NetBackup Enterprise Server, then the big box in the middle of the
page, the NetBackup 6.0 Upgrade Portal. Everything you need to know is
there, and there is a _lot_ to know to do a quality job. Happy reading.

Plan B would be to contract it out.

Abhishek,

One important thing to be aware of is cluster configuration. If your master
server is clustered, this may be a much hardeer upgrade and you may really
want to look at consulting. Version 5.1 and above significantly changed the
way NBU works with clustered master servers. I don't know if you are
clustered or not, but something to really watch for.

2007-05-31 Thread Forester, Jack L
Seconded on the cluster stuff. We upgraded from 4.5 to 5.1 a couple years ago,
and the changes for a clustered environment were significant. We have a
support contract with Veritas, and made use of it for that upgrade. They sent
me a pdf document that contained lessons tech support learned from others doing
that upgrade. That document was of tremendous assistance in that upgrade. I'm
preparing to upgrade our test environment from 5.1 to 6.0MP4 next week. The
key here is *preparation* -- don't even consider doing the upgrade without
investing the time to be thoroughly prepared.
