Sounds like the master server doesn't like it.
As a quick test, check the host properties of the master, check the SERVERS,
and where you have additional servers, add the machine name to it.
Make sure the client is talking to the correct Master Server too! Look at
the client properties too.

Hello
I have som policyes taking system backup of about 50 Win2003 servers. On these
policyes a have an exclude list as follows:
*.tmp
c:\*.vsp
c:\Doc...and...Sett\All Users\App..Data\Microsoft\Network\Downloader\*.*
C:\Program Files\VERITAS\NetBackup\bin\*.lock
C:\Program
Follow the steps in the Troubleshooting Guide for status 59.
Check that the client can resolve the server's IP address to a hostname
that appears in the client's SERVER list. Create bpcd log on the client
to verify comms.

Yup, make sure the master server and media servers are in the bp.conf or
system registry otherwise you'll get an error 59.
Justin.

This looks good, you'll never get them all but it depends what your goal
is?

1. run vmpool and find the scratch pool
2. use that output and run bpmedialist -p name_of_scratch_pool
voila! :)

If it is a UNIX system, check that the bp.conf file has the master server,
and all the media servers listed.
Be sure the DNS forward and reversse lookups are all working.
On Windows the systems list is found under FileSpecify Netbackup

I think the *vsp and *tmp files are a start and as you find others, add
them in :)

Hi,
Got your point.I have one more query. Suppose I am using a cifs share from
a nas,(\\nas\share\backups) in the windows media server., then what
convention shall be used. Shall I use \\nas\share\backups in the storage
unit .

Marianne,
The A* tapes usually mean your barcode reader failed and marked them as
such, are those really the labels? If not you should eject them and
re-scan them (re-inventory/etc).

Hmm.
You have a CIFS share mounted on the media server so you would use
wherever it is mounted to.
Mount CIFS share \\nas\share\backups to Z:\ for example.
Then make it media-server Z:\

Assuming the \\nas is mapped to Z:\ -- yes, that is correct.

Hi All,
We are running NBU 5.1 MP5 on Solaris 9 with master server VCS clustered and 5
media servers. We are planning to upgrade OS from Solaris 9 to Solaris
10(reinstall) with /opt converted to ZFS from UFS. We are not upgrading NBU.
Has anyone done this type of upgrade? If yes, can you share
I did this before from solaris 8 to solaris 10 with 5.1MP4 I believe back
in the day, I did not have a VCS cluster running though.
I took a catalog backup (to tape).
I wiped the box clean.
I installed solaris 10 (onto new drives) incase I had any problems.
I ran bprecover.
I set my scratch

but one more thing.. to detect the media is FULL or not, is it use the

Master server, so i can easily detect and eject them
You can use vssat command to change three levels of credential expiry
intervals, user principal, generic, and service principal
vssat setexpiryintervals --pluginname plugin name --prpltype
default,user,service,webcredential --credexpiry expiry period
I have used this before while testing vxss,
Full Media (regardless of in/out library)
/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/admincmd/bpmedialist -mlist -l | \
awk ' { if ( int($15/8)%2 ) {print $1} }'

On another note, you shouldn't have to be running bpnbat -loginmachine
every time it should just be bpnbat -login. the -loginmachine is for nbu
servers to authenticate, and I think by default those do not expire.
You can do bpnbat -login non-interactively, type bpnbat -help to get the

Is there some kind of switch or router between the client and backup server
that might only be 100mbps capable? 10MB/sec is usually pretty suspect because
that is about the number you'll get with a 100Mbps connection somewhere in the
data path.
It sounds like you are getting full bandwidth
