[Veritas-bu] Backing up through NAT

2010-05-20 Thread Heathe Yeakley
I have a client that has a small cluster of systems (maybe 2 dozen) behind a NAT firewall. I'm being asked to back all of them up. I've done some Google searches on backing up across NAT, and I'm a little confused about exactly how to do it. Anyone have any tips? - Heathe Kyle Yeakley

So long as they are only doing a static one to one NAT it should work but you need to make sure you are resolving the outside global NAT-ed IP address to the correct hostname. And if they are NAT-ing into the network from the DMZ you need to make sure the inside IP addresses are translated to the

If NetBackup is unable to write to the log files it will stall and not run. Check the logs directory and also the logs in the db directory sometimes they can get to be many GB in size. Either remove them or move them to another spot to free up space. At least that is what occurred to us when we

The Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) is a Microsoft product that is built into Windows (2003+). It functions similarly to the Veritas Snapshot Provider (VSP) in that it allows you to backup open files on a volume. VSS is recommended for 2003, but both should function. I would try the following.

Actually check on the client. I know 6.5.3 Unix clients did not show position 3, but on 6.5.5 it does. I was never on 6.5.4 so not sure if it gave position 3 or not. So when I was on 6.5.3 all my unix servers only showed 6.5 From: veritas-bu-boun...@mailman.eng.auburn.edu
