From your messate, it is not clear if this error is coming from client
backups, It can be caused by a network issue. Be sure that your NIC
settings match the switch.

Jeff,
Have you checked the KB/sec rate while the backup is running. Sometimes a
41 error can be caused by
a mis-matched LAN connection. If the rate is much slower than you expect
(in the order of 100KB/sec or so this
could be an issue) When you are doing full backups alot more data is
We have found this in most cases to be related to NIC settings being our
of sync.
Or related to firewall performance if the backup is coming through a
firewall.
For 100MB both NIC and switch should be 100FDX no auto negotiate.
There are some regristry hacks to deal with the firewall issue.
We are evaluating a pair of DD580's for both VTL and CIFS mounted backups.
We are running NBU 6.5.1 on 64Bit Windows 2003.
We just got it running yesterday. We plan to replicate between two sites.
So we won't know for a couple of weeks how it will work for us.

We have been getting these errors while testing disk backups to a Data
Domain disk. Can you give some more details about
your environment.

Our environment is different, we are running NBU 6.5.1 on a 64bit Windows
system connected to a DD580
We have had problems getting expected throughput when we are backing up to
disk. Your comments seem
to point to a NBU problem rather than a DDR issue, interesting.

We have NBU 6.45.1 installed on a 64Bit Windows 2003 server (4CPU, 4G
memory) Dual quad core CPU
Connected to a DD580 via Fiber for tape. Both systems have GigE
connections to the LAN.
We are getting between 3,000KB to 8,700KB/sec to disk
and between 16,000 to 29,000 KB/sec to VTL

Greetings Paul,
OK, I guess I mis-interpreted your question, apoligies.
My initial thoughts are that you could set up a different DNS name for
each interface on the media server.
Then create a different storage unit that refers to each Media server
name, and have that storage unit
refer to
Paul,
Please clarify what you mean by the application I assume Netbackup.
Good question. Hadn't thought of that.
You may have to make Netbackup think of it as a completely separate media
server, and device host all the way
through. That way the it knows what path (NIC) to take when running a
