Re: [Veritas-bu] Netbackup 6 upgrade - special policy types
Upgrade your master server and media servers to 5.x. Put the latest 5.x patch. Work your installation to see if there is any problem. My opinion is to stay there. If you want to upgrade, open a case to veritas to check your database. When finish upgrade your master server to 6.0MP4. Then your media servers. Finally upgrade your clients and agents directly from 4.5 to 6.0MP4. Read carefully the installation manual, and the technote http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/285590.htm Also take a look to http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/285223.htm Finally have the veritas tech phones near to you when upgrading: http://support.veritas.com/phonesup/phonesup_ddProduct_.htm ---Original Message--- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [Veritas-bu] Netbackup 6 upgrade - special policy types Sent: May 30 '07 21:48 Hi All, We are upgrading our environment from Netbackup 4.5 to 6.0, Can someone please provide me the steps that i need to follow for the upgradation. While it may be that upstream versions of ext4 have gotten around this limit as suggested by Justin that doesn’t mean the version you have on RHEL5 or RHEL6 will incorporate such changes. RedHat starts with an upstream version and usually doesn’t change to a later upstream version within a major release (RHEL5 will usually have the same upstream version it started with and RHEL6 will usually have a later upstream version but stay with that through its life.) I’d recommend looking at using XFS or, if EXT4 is needed, use volumes less than 16TB. Also I would not necessarily recommend it but you could create an mdadm-RAID 0 of the two volumes and format it as XFS, but you would be putting all of your eggs in one basket, e.g. if one of the 20 x 2.5TB LUNs failed, you would lose all of the data. Re: [Veritas-bu] First backup job
Hello, If the weekly schedule is calendar based AND you had select the retries allowed after run day, netbackup will run the Weekly schedule. Else, Netbackup the first time will run a Full backup using the daily schedule. After that if the daily is differential incremental, it will run as incremental. If the daily is cumulative incremental, it will run again as full until a regular full is run. Re: [Veritas-bu] Veritas-bu Digest, Vol 89, Issue 12
According to Symantec, the fastest way to backup NAS devices is use mount volumes and run the backup to a deduplication device WITH accelerator enabled. If you do not want to use accelerator, then NDMP is the next faster way to backup NAS. Unfortunately I haven't try it yet. stefanos -Original Message- From: veritas-bu-boun...@mailman.eng.auburn.edu [mailto:veritas-bu-boun...@mailman.eng.auburn.edu] On Behalf Of Dwayne Adams Sent: Sunday, September 15, 2013 2:12 AM To: Tom Moore; veritas-bu@mailman.eng.auburn.edu Subject: Re: [Veritas-bu] Veritas-bu Digest, Vol 89, Issue 12 Tom, Thanks. Re: [Veritas-bu] 100% disk to disk
This is normal behavior for a VTL. If you need to free up VTL space you have to write a script that labels the empty tapes. You can do that ones a wile by labeling all virtual tapes it the scratch pool (using GUI or script) or use the appropriate netbackup notify script (there is a script that runs when a tape is expired, I do not remember the name) For puredisk (MSDP or PPDO) things are different. When a backup chunk is not used anymore, is not deleted until the garbage collection process runs. Even thaw the space is not freed up to the file system but it is remain reserved for later backups. You can see the free space from the netbackup GUI. Re: [Veritas-bu] Oracle DB server and NetBackup Media Server on same machine for RMAN?
Hello, You can install and use media server at the server with the oracle database. This is something common. For the licenses you need: Enterprise client (media server option that back up only himself) SSO license (if you will use shared drives). You do not need SSO if you already share the drive(s) with other systems. The SSO license goes with the drive, not the server. Database license for the oracle database. If you already have, its ok. Is the oracle server a standalone server, cluster or RAC ? Please pay attention that if you are using inline copy (two copies at the time of backup), both copies must use the same media server (the oracle server). In order to do that the deduplication hashing will be performed at the oracle server. Does the Netbackup Media Server license on a host include the Oracle client like the Netbackup Client itself does? On reviewing the guide at http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=contentid=DOC3672 id=DOC3672 it talks about the client but always seems to suggest that the client has to be pushed to a separate media server (or the master/media server). We need to do a large RMAN backup per vendor of an Oracle DB so I’m thinking of making this Oracle DB server its own media server so it can push directly to tape and deduplication storage units rather than having to transfer over the network to a separate media or master. It just isn’t clear to me this is possible and I need to know. This is NetBackup 7.1. I know for it to be a media server I have to get the license for standard media server and the shared storage license. Do I need any other license for Oracle/RMAN to work on a media server that backs only itself up? Do I need to full media server license instead of the back itself up one if it is doing its own RMAN client on same server? Re: [Veritas-bu] Oracle DB server and NetBackup Media Server on same machine for RMAN?
Yes, you need one “library drive” license and one SSO license per drive. You need to install these license’s serial numbers to all media servers. And Yes, Enterprise client license give you the ability to install local media server at the oracle system and backup the oracle with RMAN directly to tapes, assuming that you have the database license. setfanos From: veritas-bu-boun...@mailman.eng.auburn.edu [mailto:veritas-bu-boun...@mailman.eng.auburn.edu] On Behalf Of Lightner, Jeff Sent: Wednesday, November 13, 2013 10:53 PM To: 'Auburn. My experience is I’ve had to install the SSO license on media servers any time I setup the tape library. Are you saying we only have to pay for it once no matter how often it is installed? The machine is standalone with no RAC. Enterprise client is correct. My question isn’t whether I can backup “generally” from an Enterprise client but rather whether I can specifically Enterprise client as the “media server” for RMAN on the same host. That is use the Oracle type backup for a live DB with RMAN rather than a type “standard” backup as we would for a quiesced DB on which we were just backing up the filesystem directly. We do the latter all the time but this would be first time we’re attempting the former. Re: [Veritas-bu] netbackup 7.1 convert catalog to 7.5
The problem I imagine that you have is that the catalog migration had finish and I cannot find a way to restart it. If you check the output of the command nbemmcmd -listsettings -machinename master_server, you will see that the value of LIST_FS_IMAGE_HEADERS is 0 .
