I have the same type of problem restoring on the mailserver. It has
millions of files. If restore selected files and directories with xbp is
used, the restore will queue for a hour or more before starting. If
the restore is sent with restore search directory it starts immediatly.

If it is a UNIX server like Solaris, the messages file may give you some
information about the drive that had the error. There is also a error
file in netbackup/db/media that logs the drive index and tape number.

Yes I noticed that the backup path/file is blank in a active backup on the
activity monitor. We have a Solaris 9 backup server.

millions and millions of files. There are also plenty of databases.
So probably an average mix of applications get a backup. I got to believe
the estimate is inflated unless another data center has experienced so
much catalog growth in the Netbackup 6.0 conversion.

Hi,
Will Netbackup 5.1 back up Windows Vista?

disk staging through fiber channel? I
heard that it was needed for backups through fiber in a SAN. So would
the same apply for DSSU?
3. Can a media server be promoted to master if the master no longer
exists?

No - it was just Dave talldoode statement about the way command were
recommended to expire tapes. My question was about images so maybe
bpexpdate will leave the catalog corrupted when it expires the tape.
Dave said
oh, just do this to expire that pesky tape makes me cringe.
Thanks

We have Windows clients running NB_4.5. If will take some time to upgrade
the clients after the server has been upgraded to NB_6.0. Does anyone
know if you can backup-up and restore 4.5 Windows clients with a 6.0
Solaris server? Thanks

have to go back. Why is it better to upgrade
Netbackup before migrating to the new platform?

The general rule of thumb is to always do as few changes
Yes bpclntcmd -hn hostname cuts off the last digit when issued from the
5.1MP6 Solaris 9 Master Server. I noticed it with MP6. NB_5.1MP6 clients
that I tested return the right IP address.

Has anyone ever seen BPCLNTCMD -HN
There was a discussion on this list about bpclntcmd on NB_5.1 back in
June. The subject BPCLNTCMD -HN truncates IP address if you want to look
at the archive. There were several that said they had problems with
bpclntcmd.

. - eventhough the host is at the ok prompt. Do I need
SSO? If drives cannot be attached to 2 masters at once, can I delete a
drive from the old server and define it on the new?

is the point of using vnetd if the firewall has to be opened for
non-reserved ports? Thanks
