Check the nic drivers and the new tcpip offload features in windows server.
You might have to go to the nic oem's web site vs using microsoft's or the
server oem drivers.

I have been getting a bunch of 24 errors as well. We have an ongoing
ticket with Symantec on the issue. It SEEMS to be related to our newer
servers that are connected to our 10gb network. Our Exchange backups
seemed to suffer the most from these errors and we actually have had to
limit those to our servers connected to the 1gb network. There are no
firewalls involved, and our Network guys are seeing nothing on the network
to indicate a problem. If anyone else has suggestions, I would love to
hear them.

have them analyze your network from the master/media server(s) - to the

Did this happen with no change or patching?

For me, the only thing that changed was the media server 1gb - 10gb.

Did not have errors similar those in your first URL and do not use LACP
for the master in second URL.

Re: [Veritas-bu] Help with status 24's on windows clients

2011-03-28 Thread Alley, Chris
We made a couple of changes to our environment.

We upgraded our Master and Media servers to 7.0.1
Added in several new servers, all dual Quad core procs with 48gb of RAM, all
Linux RH ES 5.x
All of the new Media servers are connected to our 10gb network with Cisco Nexus
backend
Master still on the 1gb network
2 older media servers (1 HP-UX) still on the 1gb network

The conditions that seem to trigger the 24s are when clients are being backed
up to a 10gb media server, however when backing up to our older servers the
errors does not occur. We also see it a lot more frequently on our Exchange
backups than normal system backups, however our large file servers will
occasionally have these errors when on the 10gb media servers.

Sorry I was using these as a reference. If you've exhausted your
troubleshooting keep working with support. The reference was to show defects,
configuration parameters and network issues have resolved 24's.

 Hi,

error 24 is tricky, its usually due to firewalls or router/traffic/network
problems, you can get the network analyzer via symantec web support and
have them analyze your network from the master/media server(s) - to the
client and that may help to figure out what is going on.

please keep me in the loop too because I see this on occasion but only

Curious,

What do you all use for your NET_BUFFER_SZ on the master/media servers?
I also noticed setting that on windows 16-32 KiB can also show a lot of
problems when using it with 10GbE servers.

Check the nic drivers and the new tcpip offload features in windows server.
You might have to go to the nic oem's web site vs using microsoft's or the

Yeah, one of the servers we changed so that the tcpip offload features were
disabled, sadly that did not fix the problem. I will see if there are any
updated drivers, however it seems odd that this problem only happens when
backing up to our servers attached with 10gb cards. The clients are all on 1gb.
