Can you do it ? Yes
Should you do it ? No
VM will let you grow any volume BUT since your /opt on slice 5 it WILL NOT
resize the underlying partition.
So if you need to un-encapsulate you will end up with /opt being the size of
s5, NOT what you resized it to under VM.
The problem here is the DMP device tree is confused after reboot and that is
due to the disk.info
The clean up DMP device tree:
1. rm /etc/vx/disk.info
2. rm /dev/vx/dmp/*
3. rm /dev/vx/rdmp/*
4. vxconfigd -k

What version of Volume Manger and File System is on the old system ?
Is your volume part of an RVG ?
If this is a VxFS file system easy. Firstly shrink the volume by the size of
disk03 and then when you run vxprint you will not see the disk are part of the
volume anymore. You can delete to your hearts content then

A shared diskgroup means mounted on both nodes of the cluster at the same time.
There is no failover. For this you need CVM and CFS
As far as how to make diskgroup sharable, you don't have to do anything with
the diskgroup. Just make sure both servers can see the disks in the DG.

This is gonna be to hard to fix via email. Since this is raid5 at software

I would strongly suggest logging a call with tech support to help you out with

Follow the procedure to un-encapsulate again.
After you boot from the mirror disk of the solaris partitions, run vxinstall
and encapsulate your mirror disk (#2 custom install and leave all your other

Now the thing to keep is mind is what disk your system will boot from when you
I had a small LUN assigned that is used for nothing, just a place holder in
the rootdg. So now my two boot disks are not under veritas control so I
can mirror them. But after I did this I wondered: what if the box comes up
one day and tries to start Veritas before the HBA presents the LUN to
Politely suggest to the Netapp TSE to stick to what he knows and leave the VM
part to the experts.
If you don't want enclosure based names then run vxdiskadm and yes you can do
it on the fly.
Since your running 4.1 try this first.
1. mv /etc/vx/disk.info /etc/vx/disk.info.old
2. cd
Do you actually have 6 paths to the disk to begin with ?
If you don't have 6, then what did you expect DMP to do ?
If you do have 6, have you excluded the 2 other paths ?

You cannot deport rootdg on a VX3.x , it must always
be imported.
This is perfect example of why dont put everything in
rootdg.
You will have to split all but one disk into another
diskgroup and then deport that DG.
