I am anxiously awaiting that video - I can'r say I've ever tied anything
smaller than 26, mostly because I never felt that fish would take anything
smaller, but I admit also because my skill level just isn't there for it.
I can hardly fathom tying a 32 of any type (tiemco, mustad, any type), much
I tyed mine with 10/0 Gudebrod. Too bad they don't make any more. It was a
finer thread than the 14/0 thread that I once had. This hook is real small, it
will fit in the gape of the sx 32 you might find today.

I also should have mentioned that the Veveeus?12/0 is still stronger then
the Guedebrod 10/0.

I am sure that you have a much lighter touch then me. I am too heavy with my
pressure and no matter how I try I still break the Guedebrod, even when I take
it off the spools and use a regular bobbin?

Can't wait to see the video, Don. I have a couple spools of the UNI-Caenis
thread. Label says it is a 20 denier thread and is really fine. I've only
ever tried tying with it a couple times and it is quite fragile. Cudos to
you Don for tying at both extremes of the size scale.

I never really had any problem with the 10/0 breaking. I have not tried the
Vee? thread.

I started to "make" my own thread for flies smaller than #26. Picked out a
few filaments from a piece of GSP thread, waxed, twisted and put it on a
little spool. That was TRUE spiderweb... à la super strong. Using that on a
video it would look like the fly was tying itself while you were just
When I fished the San Juan River in New Mexico a couple of years back I brought
my tying stuff and tied some 28 and 30’s.
I had Bennecci 16/0 and I liked it better then the Guedebrod 10/0 which I
thought broke too easily. Never did like that Guedebrod.

A friend ties 32s with a special 30 denier gelspun he gets from somewhere
across the pond.

I’m going to work on making the video more entertaining than a normal tutorial.
That means a lot of clips of the materials and tools used, comparing them to
normal. Then I’ll have section of the actual tie. Since the tie itself is not
practical for most tiers, I would think entertainment is
