[VFB] Re: Charlie Bonner

2009-02-05 Thread Bruce P. Whittle, DVM

I am so sorry to hear that. Charlie was definitely one in a million
(billion?). I still remember at the Sowbug about 4 years ago he asked if
Brandon was going to be going fishing. Since we only had one vehicle we
were not going to be able to so Charlie asked if he could take Brandon to
Dry Run Creek. Charlie had the patience of a saint and took the time with
Brandon to teach him fly fishing. Brandon caught an approximately 5 lb.
rainbow there and will always remember that experience. I think he also
took Brandon the next two years. Charlie was one of his best buddies. He
will be crushed to hear he passed away. Charlie was definitely a credit to
the support as well as a credit to humanity. His family is definitely in
our prayers.

[VFB] Charlie Bonner Funeral Arrangements

2009-02-05 Thread Jimmy D. Moore

The family is at the funeral home right now, setting up the funeral
arrangements. The lady at the funeral home told me she thought the
funeral would be Saturdary. She'll post it to their website late this
afternoon. I'll check and as soon as it's posted, I'll alert the ya'll
with the particulars.

[VFB] My new 8wt bass outfit

2009-02-05 Thread boosbooksandbargains
Folks: I bought a 9ft 8wt Outfit from Cabelas,(a Cabela's Cahill) that was
only $59.95 for the whole thing. Rod, reel, WF fly line, backing, and tapered
leader.. I bought it cause I had no bass rod and it's all I could afford at
the time..Man, am I ever glad I bought that thing.. I tied on my biggest Dave
Whitlock spun deer hair Fruit Cocktail fly that I have ever tied, complete
with about an 1 1/2 diameter body, 3-4 inch tails, rubber legs, metal eyes,
and a mono weed guard.. It was freezing and the wind blowing at 20mph at least.
I got out there in the yard, lined up with the wind at my back, and the first 9
out of 10 casts went 60-65 ft, with an easy splash down for that sized bug.. I
kept at it till I was getting 80 foot casts,(10-15 ft farther than I have ever
gotten with my 5wt St. Croix rod, AND IT HAS A $65 spool of line on it LOL..)
consistently, using a single haul cast. And the reel does have a drag system,
although it is a gear against gear system, which wears out quickly, but is nice
while it lasts. The rod is all graphite, and says it's medium action, but I
would rate is as the FAST side of medium action..But, it also has aluminum
reel seat,(vs the plastic ones usually found on these cheap rods) and double
reel nuts to keep it extra tight. It has a cork fighting butt and the 9ft rod
has TEN eyes, which I think helps to shoot the line even farther.. Anyway, if
anybody wants a nice , cheap bass rod, I don't know how long that price will
last, as i think it's normally $99.95, but still WELL worth $99.95 even.
Anyway, just wanted to give this report in case anybody is looking for ran
outfit like this..Since I bass fish only occasionally it will be great, but
with cats and action like that, I may start bass fishing MUCH MORE LOL Chuck
