I melt with the cautery with no problems. Any left over plastic will simply burn off the end of it when you are done..just push the on button with nothing on the end. I don't think the cautery cares what i burns and melts. When you use the cautery,just hold it really close to the end of the mono

A friend of mine used to tack a hide to plywood and cover it with Borax and leave it laying flat for about a month and his turned out pretty good but not sure if he did anything else to it or not. I do know all the flesh has got to be removed or it may rot I've also heard salt will work but
