I'm having a hard time with all the loss lately. It's hard enough to 
distance my self while working at the hospital but when good friends are 
passing also it's really difficult. I've had this week off so I'm just 
sitting at home and I broke out my vise and washed the dust off. I have 
been so busy with working and other life things that it's so nice to get 
back to "me." I have so many wonderful memories of Don and more than a few 
of his outrageous creations that I have displayed in my home. They keep me 
close to all of you daily. Stay Safe everyone!

I was very close with Don, and this just hit me like a ton of bricks.
Though we’ve been separated geographically a little bit now, it can be said
that my closest fishing buddy just passed. We shared a special connection
in that I got him in touch with a doctor to treat (out of respect for him,
and his family, I’ll just say) “a severe nerve issue in his jaw” that made
him “saddened” by the pain.  Regardless, he took my son under his wing and
was tutoring him in the ways of rope dubbing and fly tying in general.  I’m
still a bit in shock.  He will be sorely missed.

Alan DiSomma tried to post the Facebook message about Don.  It didn’t come 
through.  I’m going to try following this.

The VFB group on Google will disappear next week - as I understand it they are 
dropping all groups (no income?).  I am going to try to set it up on Yahoo.com 
.  If so, I will send everyone a note.

Normally our fearless leader,  Chuck Alexander would do it, but he is in for a 
very long recovery from Covid.  He came very close to not making it at all and 
could still use all our prayers for  recovery and strength.

Subject: [VFB] Don Ordes.

 

I just finished a message chat with with Don Ordes. He was asking about VFB and 
specifically about "Ever hear from Ridderbose? What about our Aussie buddy?  
Reuven Segal?” and I was able to tell him that Reuven had moved to Israel and 
had only just posted  to VFB advising he travels a lot and was currently in 
Japan. I told him I had seen the odd post from John Ridderboss (? Spelling) but 
not lately. Unfortunately, Don is still in a lot of pain.  I tried to persuade 
him to add his VFB email to his ipad but he said there was a conflict. I told 
him that I have done it and that it is doable. He replied that he is having 
difficulty doing as lot of things.  “Simple things are no longer simple.”. 
He then said his pain meds were kicking in and that he was going to have a nap. 

 

Sorry for tha dark area - probably due to me pasting some of DonO’s answers.

 

So sad that he is having such a tough time. He still has not touched his 
computer.

as soon as he is able to.

[VFB] Don Ordes update

[Neville Gosling]

As I hadn't heard from Don O for sometime,  I decided to give him a call. He 
asked me to say “Hi” to  everyone at VFB and that he misses everyone. Don 
advised that he has good days and bad days and if it wasn't for the severe pain 
he would be much better. His right side has lttle strength or control which 
makes it hard for him to get about in a wheelchair. True to form with his sense 
of humour, he joked that all he does is to go round in circles. His friends who

I am sitting here in Don’s living room in the new house that we just got him 
moved into and he wanted me to give you his  home address 14505N.Presidio Loop, 
Nampa, ID 83651

He would like it if you could send him by snail mail because his internet is 
not hooked up yet and may not be for several weeks. The internet company he had 
does not serve his new home, so they will look into different means of getting 
internet. Either satellite or what ever else will be available?


Most of the packing and unloading has been done by his wife Cheryl ( a real 
saint in my book) his son Donny, and his wife Melisa. His sister that lives 
near us in Arizona has been here the past two months helping out with 
everything. My wife and I have been here for about 10 days , and planning to 
leave this Thursday. I will see if I can find a spot on the Snake River to wet 
a line on the way home?

He is still going thru physical therapy and progressing well. Hopefully his 
tying will come back as good as it was. We can only pray.

He would like it if you could send him by snail mail because his internet is 
not hooked up yet and may not be for several weeks. The internet company he had 
does not serve his new home, so they will look into different means of getting 
internet. Either satellite or what ever else will be available?


Most of the packing and unloading has been done by his wife Cheryl ( a real 
saint in my book) his son Donny, and his wife Melisa. His sister that lives 
near us in Arizona has been here the past two months helping out with 
everything. My wife and I have been here for about 10 days , and planning to 
leave this Thursday. I will see if I can find a spot on the Snake River to wet 
a line on the way home?

He is still going thru physical therapy and progressing well. Hopefully his 
tying will come back as good as it was. We can only pray.



I am using my iPhone as my hot spot in order to send this.

[VFB] Don Ordes

I had a nice long conversation with Don Saturday evening. 
He was much more talkative  and his speech was much clearer. He is still is 
having an issue with his vision, but it has improved and will be seeing a 
specialist soon. 
He has not been able to read posts or answer them. He is still having some 
difficulty with the right side of his body but it is improving. 

I will be driving to Idaho to visit him in a few weeks. I will let you all know 
what happens.

 open Don's email and we read all of your messages to
 him, as he is unable to read much.  He asked me to thank
 everyone and to say hello. 
 
 He is still recovering in the therapy unit of
 St. Al's hospital in Boise. When he had the stroke he
 lost the use of the right side of his body. So his arm and
 hand, leg, and even his vision on the right half of his body
 were all affected (he can see out of both eyes, but only
 from his nose to his left side). Unfortunately he is right
 handed, so using his left hand for everything is also
 difficult by itself. 
 
 However, he is steadily making progress in his
 recovery and has regained the ability to move his limbs and
 use them to some extent. He still requires a great deal of
 assistance to get up and move, but the therapists are
 optimistic that he will continue to improve. Only time will
 tell how much capability he will recover. He is scheduled to
 be released from the hospital to go home this Thursday, but
 we will continue with having therapists come in to work with
 him to help with his rehab.  
 
 Again, thank you all  for your kind words and
 support, I will continue to monitor his emails and forward
 your thoughts and questions to him.
