I do know a couple of folks who sell stuff that didn't sell at the shows
on eBay, using it for closeout. Also, it is good for building up a
customer list for other fly sales.
I've sold several thousand lot's of stuff, and the pricing is all over
the place, from low ball to over retail for bra
Chuck,
When I was tying for the shops and resorts I was able to buy my materials in
bulk. I would buy hooks in 1000 lots and get a good discount on my other
materials. Chenille was bought by the 144 yard skein Thread bought 10 spools at
a time and things like that kept the price down.

Neat
I don't see how anybody can tie the amount of flies it would take to even net
minimum wage. I know you'd get faster and faster with certain patterns, but in
order to sell many, you'd have to constantly be changing patterns (I guess)
which would slow you down. I don't think I'd have the speed to
Alan: I guess so. I can still get hooks now for $6.00/100, but even at that
price, you'd have to tie a LOT of flies to make any real money. Specially at
places like ebay where if the certain auction ends with a no sale, you still
have to pay a relisting fee to list them again. Do that 2-3 times
I think that in some countries that is probably the TRUTH... Chuck

Tony: I think you're right. Most of the flies I'm talking about probably do
come from China etc. I remember when I first started fly fishing, and didn't

I have had people out on my boat that were fishing Wal Mart flies and the flies
did not last from the time we were out till we got back.
I hesitate in posting this but that is what happened.

Chuck,
This sounds like I am blowing my own horn so don't take it that way. I was
getting the premium for my flies at the shops because I tied them. A lot of
them were bought as collectors flies. This also happens at shows. At the
Conclave last week I had a tyer say I will take your fly because
I was tying a lot of Olive Wooly Buggers, and Chili Peppers. I could tie a
dozen in 45 minuets after putting the beads on the hooks using a Norlander
vise. I would get orders for 15 dozen. I can't do that any more and am getting
too old to even try.
The truth is that I just got burned out on tyi
Most of the flies we sell at Bass Pro start at $1.29 and the most popular ones
are like 1.79 to 2.29. Some of the bigger one sell for 6.99.
