Looks like we should have the new Swallows Nest Fly Tyers pins ready for
Conclave and for sale at my table. Drop by and pick one up. They're $10 each,
and the money we make will go to cover expenses for throwin' the meetings at
our house. Drinks, electricity, etc., etc. Not a bad deal for a one time fee.
All club members will be required to buy a pin (sooner or later, lol) as a
lifetime membership donation, lmao.

Nick Lyons.one of my all-time favorite fly fishing authors.who is
prolly more famous as a publisher, (the Lyons Press), almost came to tears one
time when i asked him to sign a book that Middleton had written, (and that he
had editied).Rivers of Memory i believe is the title. I'll check that when
i go downstairs next. Nick told me that he REALLY missed Harry, and went on to
tell me some personal things about the man.which i won't share here. It was
apparent to me that he loved him very much. I had just given him a box of flies
i had tyed, as a thankx for him havin' read my novella (written in '99), and
the critique he had sent me. And i wanted to also thank him for the hugely
generous gift of a very large part of his own fly collection that he had
donated to the CFFCM a few months earlier. That, was on display in the museum
(during the time we lived there), for at least a year and had flies in it by
a kinds of heavyweights that i knew i may never have the chance to see
again, Charles De Feo for one..
If you've never read anything by Nick Lyons.please treat yourself, and the
same goes for Harry Middleton.

there most likely. Damn, i wish i could be. The United Fly Tyers are havin' a
big GALA to celebrate their 50th Anniversary. Go here for all the details.

We'll be tyin' in Florida the very two days before so i'd have to leave my
truck in Florida, fly to Boston and then back to Florida just to pick up the
truck and drive it home.i don't think so. I'd do

My good buddie Bob Meade...(legendary Realistic fly tyer, goes by the
handle Mantis because of his signiture fly being a Praying Mantis), has
contacted me and given me the go-ahead to spread the word..SO HERE
GOES. He and a mutual friend of ours, David Martin.both members of my site,
are launching a brand new website on Mon. Here's the urlgo to
http://bobanddavesauctions.com The site will basically work exactly the same as
ebay.and they are takin' very nominal fees for their
servicesi've already tested the site and it's working pretty good.
They'll have all the bugs worked out by Mon. with any luck. The site will
auction and or But It Now ONLY fly fishing tackle, artwork, books, flies, and
etc., etc., etc...tyin' lessons, trips maybe.i'm not sure. Go there and
find out what's goin' on for yourself. I've been workin' with Bob and Dave for
the last 3/4 days helping them work out the kinks. In other words, doin' Mock
auctions and buy it nows. Starting Mon., i'll have flies for sale there.
This is going to be an auction site for very serious collectors..so get
registered and open an account.and start selling and or buying. You'll need
a Pay Pal account...to pay in your dues so-to speaknot actually
dues.but a dollar amount that they can deduct from for covering your fees.
The fee for selling an item is 50 cents and on top of that you can be charged
an extra 50 cents or a buck for Prime Location Listing, etc., etc...but 50
cents is all they will charge for the most basic listing of an auction item. So
you CAN sell something, wether it be by auction or a but it now item.for as
little as 50 cents. For now, there will be no end of sale feeno
commission. They're going to see how that goes. Check it out. mark.

England...it's on one of the hooks i bought from Jens Pilgaard of Denmark,
when we were over there...he was tyin' at the same show...he sells
them at his website, http://www.flytying.dk This is one of the ones he has in
his new Artistic Series of blind eye hooks.they're $10 eachwhich is
not a bad price seein' as how they are made one at a time, hand forged, hand
filled, hand painted and Japaned individually. There are some Wild designs t
his new series..check it out. Click on the pic for an even better

7 hours later and it's finished.4 coats of head cement (first one Griff's
Thin, then 3 more of Sally Hansen's Mega Shine) so far, and it'll prolly need a
couple more.
the head was almost a disaster but i saved it..not exactly what i would of
wanted.but actually i think it may have turned out better the way it did
that if i had succeded in having my signiture micro head...sometimes it's
better to have a head more in proportion with the rest of the fly than just
insisting on a tiny little head.
i usually do go for the smallest head i can get.but it just wasn't possible
this time...and sometimes that works out just fine.
i'll post a pic asap.we've got a Sowbug meeting in the morning and it's
already 5:43 a.m. i'll prolly skip sleeping til after the meeting...lol.
well, at least that's outta the way and when the time rolls
around..hehehehehe.no fuss/no muss. i'm gonna skip doin'
one for every center piece on every table, next year.lmao. that was a one
time deal.

Well, we got home last yesterdaysurfice it to say i just simply
don't have time to answer well over 500 emails that have pilled up. So i'm
deleting most.of the vfb stuff.
The Whiting Farms tour, etc., etcwas TERRIFFIC! Boy did we have fun.
Doc Whiting was a very good host. He hasn 't yet decided who will be the new
team manager. When he does, he will be sending out new forms for all of us to
fill out..us, being new propective members of the team. And he'll be
making up new shirts...actually i haven't decided if we should go with
Whiting or just stay with the Jay Fair Eagle Team...with Jay Fair we
get lots of other things along with hackle...Chenilles, Marabou, Dubbings,
Hen Backs, etc..Jay Fair was at the Conclave and promised to do certain
things. ..
Conclave was FANTASTIC!! The tyers and liars BBQ for just the tyers was
really a cool event..we had a grreat raffle, a blind bugger contest, a
two people (one left hand, one right hand) tyin' contest, and Oscar Flieu
played while we all sang..btw, i will be nominating Oscar for next
year's Buz Buzeck award. John Newbury won it this year and i'm personally VERY
happy for him. He's a great guy who definately deserves it. Oscar sang (as we
all did), at the Sat. grand finallie BBQ as well.i was so wiped out by
then i could hardly eat..well, lmao. All day, four days in a row, was a
lotta tyin'. I gave away well over 2 dozen flies.and Al Beaty asked for one
for some publication...?..i can't even remember which right
now. Things we fast amd furious all week. I got my pic on the front page of the
local newspaper...lol. Nice article bout the Conclave.
We tried pout best not to go to crazy spending...here's how it brakes
down, after food, gas, hotel, etc., etc.
Whiting Farms shoppinga little over $250 in hackle. Bout 25 pieces.
Other materials at the Conclave.bout $90 (a crap load of Salmon Fly
materials at unreal good prices)
One book, $53 (Flies As Art by Paul Willock)
One fly plate, $200 (6 gorgeous flies tyed by members of the local club at this
year's Northwest Fly Tyers Expo in Albany, OR.)
One DVD, $25 (Tyin' with Biots by Bill Heckle)
One other book, $17 (Dry Flies by Al Beaty)
And that's it.
Misa and Leslie's class went GREAT.it was limitied to 8 student and they
had 7.first half of the day they learned to tye Czech Nymphs and the
second half of the day they learned to fish them with ALL students catching
fish. Everything really went well. They did however have to wait out a very
serious storm at one pointthey all got under some trees and just
waitied til it passed.
The word on where the Conclave will be next year is still not out yet. My
guess is West Yellowstonethat's in the wind. There's a couple other
maybes.but West is my best guess. Big changes at the FFF are in store for
the future. The city of Loveland, CO. is still courting the FFF and still wants
us to come there. But, time will tell on that one. The FFF is currently locked
into it's lease for office space in Livingston, MT. for the next 18 months, and
cannot brake that deal.
The space used for the show in the Embassy Suites in Loveland was a terriffic
venue for the Conclave and it may be there again next year.another
one of the possibilities. The hotel staff was really great. And there's your
short summary. Later

  the scam works:

Two seriously good-looking voluptuous 20-21 year-old girls come over

They both start cleaning your windscreen. Their large firm young

last Saturday and very likely again this coming week-end. So Be Warned!

  look nicer.

Over the last month I became a victim of a clever 'Eastern European'
scam while out shopping. Simply dropping into Wallmart in Blyth for a
bit of shopping has turned out to be quite traumatic. Don't be naive
enough to think it couldn't happen to you or your friends. Here's how
  the scam works:

Two seriously good-looking voluptuous 20-21 year-old girls come over
to your car as you are packing your shopping into the car.

They both start cleaning your windscreen. Their large firm young
breasts almost falling out of their skimpy T-shirts. It's impossible
not to look, especially with all the rain we have been having.

When you thank them and offer them a tip, they'll say 'No' and instead
ask you for a lift to another store, in my case, Tesco at Kenton.

You agree and they both get in the back seat. On the way, they start
undressing, and both get completely naked. Then, when you pull over to
remonstrate, one of them climbs over into the front seat and starts
crawling all over your lap, kissing you, touching you intimately, and
thrusting herself against you, while the other one steals your wallet!

  I had my wallet stolen April 4th, 9th, 10th, twice on the 15th, 17th,
  20th, 24th, and 29th. Also May 1st, 4th, twice on the 6th, three times
last Saturday and very likely again this coming week-end. So Be Warned!

P.S. Lidl have wallets on sale for £1.99 each, Aldi’s are £1.75 and
  look nicer.

Henk, i don't see your name on the scheduall for Conclave... Hans will
be there this year. This may be our last year to go. As we keep getting
more and more invites all over the place.we will have to eliminate other
shows that we've done so many times. We'll prolly miss the Symposium in
Somerset in Nov. for the first time ever this year as well. We're shifting
things as we now live in Arkansas. We're in Roscoe now, but we're headed back
to Arkansas in 6 days. Maybe we'll get to see you on your side of the pond
next. Or, you can make the Sowbug someday soon? Have fun at Somerset and take

Well, as far as the list goes, IF it dies (which I don't expect any time soon
;-) ), someone else will surely step in and take over. In this day of
ubiquitous Linux/OSX/Other *nix machines and widespread broadband connections
anyone can run a mailserver from home...

I used to keep the rod together strung w/ the fly hooked on the holder
loop loaded it through the trunk (or the tailgate on the Jeep) because I
didn't want to take the time to break it down put it in the case every
time. A broken tip upgrading to better equipment cured me of that.

If this is true confessions, several years back I moved from one place

completely so I just took it apart enough to fit in the car. Jumped
in and went to the next spot. Just after starting up the car I heard
a loud crack. I did not know what it was but when I got to the next
site I found that the fly had come off the hook keeper and then the
wheel had been hooked as the wheel rotated - well you get the rest.
Really stupid. I am pretty careful now.

WOW! i just SCORED!! ON EBAY..got 8 antique gut
violin strings...5 E strings, one D sting, one A string and one they're
not sure what it is, Pitch wise. But i'm sure it'll be fine.
i use the material to make the eyes on my flies when i'm using the REALLY HUGE
blind eye hooks i sometimes use.we're talkin' 20/0 and up. It works
PERFECT...and that big a stash will last me for a LONG time.can get
bout a dozen to two dozen eyes out of one string.say at least 15 per
string..times 8. in a word, Good To Go...oh well, three
little words. me

Good newsMisako and i were signed up for the new Wasatch Fly Tying
Tools/Jay Vise Pro Team while were in Washington State doing the FFF Washington
State Fly Fishing Fair (Council Conclave) and i have some news to report bout
the Jay Vise.
First, as you know, the PERFECT vise has yet to be made. For instance, not
even the Law Vise can do what my Dingo vise can do. Which is, as an example,
rotate horizontally as well as vertically.so far the Dingo is the ONLY
vise which has the horizontally rotaing head asembly. That is the Jaws,
(independantly), rotate in a 360 degree circle, on a flat plane as well as an
up and down plane. But the Dingo has other issues which also put it in the
Not-so-perfect catagory as far as i'm concerned.little things like the
fact that it doesn't hold hooks worth a crap, and the fact that the jaws don't
open wide enough for them to hold anything over bout a size 3/0 hook.
Well, i think we will very soon have, FINALLY THE Perfect Vise available for
fly tyers. Mr. Jay Smidt of South Africa, who is the inventor and manufacture
of the Jay Vise, (imported, and distributed exclusively in the U.S. to fly
shops, by Wasatch Fly Tying Tool Company) will be sending me the very first
horizontally rotating (the Jaws themselves independantly) Jay Vise. Misako and
i have been tying exclusively on the Jay Vise at shows for 4/5 years now and i
have been working with Mr. Smidt on perfecting the Jawsand he has
already got them to where they will hold (EXTREMELY TIGHT.immoveable) hooks
up to 20/0, with a Midge set that will do the same with as small as size 32.
The vise allows for MAXIMUM hand room, holds hooks of EVERY size EXTREMELY
well, will soon rotate in both directions, and even comes with a pedastal base
that has a hole in the front of it that allows for C-clamp connection to the
table so you have the best of both worlds in one set-up, C-clamp included. Jay
has been sending me the newsest upgrades to the Jaws over time and each has
gotten better than the last. He has also sent me the new up grade to the crank
(rotary handle) which is smoother than the original. The base pedastal also
comes with many drilled holes for your tools, brass cups (inserted), for hooks
and beads, and a center tray for more of the same. And a longer than standard
stem can also be ordered for those (like me) who prefere to work higher up.
I've got it and i LOVE it.
I'm not being paid (other than free vises and tools) for this.but for my
money, the Jay vise is now THE unbeatable vise on the planet. It simply has no
flaws. By the way, it also comes with a metal bar that can be DEAD Centered
so as to allow for ABSOLUTELY DEAD TRUE Rotary adjustment no matter what the
size of the hook(s). A MUST for commercial tyers who change hook size
constantly, yet want to keep things DEAD TRUE consistantly. The vise also comes
in a variety of colors..nice touch. And just wait'll you see the stem
tighning screw, and other embelishments. Good news all the way around.
mark.

hey everybody...we're at our house in Roscoe, N.Y. now, but we won't
have our internet service until tomorrow, (Sat.), so i'm having to use the
local library's computer for now. I've had to delete most List emails over
the last couple/few weeks, because i just can't find the time to deal with it.
Misa and i will be tying at the Conclave in Loveland, Colorado in July/Aug.,
and Misa is co-teaching a class on Czech Nymphing with Leslie Wrixon.Leslie
doin' the tyin' part and Misako doin' the fishin' part. It's an all day class i
believe.in case your interested.
Sure has been nice not havin' to drive 5/6 hundred miles every day for the last
few days, lol. We're even gettin' some fishin' in. Got a Catskill Fly Tyers
Guild meeting next Thurs. Be great to see all our old pals from the Guild. Hope
your all catchin' fish and tyin' flioes. mark.

Tony.apparently your feelin' good enough to make the Missouri
trip.see you there. You can ride with us if you like, but we're goin'
up tomorrow, and stayin' at the Best Western Springfield for two nights and
commin' back on Sun. Gotta hit the local fly shops while we're in the area. i'm
gonna do Pike flies this time roundsomethin' differentif you've
never seen the Ad Swier Pike hooks from Partridge.it's a KILLER hook.
Has a HUGE return wire eye, that is PERFECT for nice big heads that are VERY
easy to build up large enough to put an eye onyou just build the
body/wing of the fly, staying behind that point at which the return wire meets
the shank.and build the head from there forward..works GREAT!
Lately i've been experimenting with usin' small Jungle Cock Nails for
eyes.they really look cool undeaneath a few coats of Green, Gold or Silver
Sparkle Fingernail Polish.hehehehehehe. i'll be bringin' some KILLER
trailer hooks to use on those flies as well Let us know if you need a
ride. mark.
