Re: [VFB] Re: test

2014-03-26 Thread Chuck Alexander
Scott: Before I figured out how to turn it off they were, cause that’s what I
did. Had my Daughter, and Daughter in law in FL check it and they said YES,
they saw 9.8 GIGS of pics LOLI FINALLY figured out how to not only turn it
off but HOPEFULLY stop them from ever going thee (unless I want them to) again.
It was just one of those things that when Google combined everything they own
over to Google+ and things got changed around, I guess I was asleep at the
keyboard and never visited my homepage there, so I had no reason to think
anything about it, till I happened to go there and saw them all there clicked
to “public viewing”. Now that I have cooled down a bit as far as the way I feel
about Google They probably sent me an email about it or whatever, but it might
have gone into my spam folder and I just deleted the whole folder without even
looking at what was in it. I’ll start checking EVERY email from now on I’ll
betcha. Chuck

Chuck are you sure your pictures were being displayed to everyone? It may
appear that way but an easy way to test is if your wife or kids have a google
account have them look at your google plus page. There is a also a link on that
page I sent you to that allows you to see how others see your page. You will
always be able to view all of your pictures and it may be confusing but they
are not shared by default. You have to go in and click share. Send me a link
to your Google plus profile and let's see if we can get to the bottom of this.
I could be wrong but I bet you are getting worked up over nothing. I am happy

about computers LOL... That’s what Billie does. Dig me out of the internet
“netherworld” when I venture off grid or wherever I go LOL..

Then, when we went fishing the other day, even though she didn’t get either one
to the shore, she did hook two little yearling bass. I think I hooked my shirt
sleeve hahhaha. We were going to try it again yesterday but the wind was
blowing continually at 20mph and gusts to over 35. ..That, added to the already
cold temps (cold when you’re from the deep south) that were probably in the low
50’s or maybe upper 40’s and the old man just couldn’t try it. Chuck

if you have some time, pls do me a favor:

 The page : http://www.alrhome.de/ff/swap.xml
It should show some 10 neat flies with names and tyers. There are some
links on it, but they do not work.

As you see at the extension, it is not html, but xml data. therefore the
display of the page depends upon if your browser can handle the xml and
the xslt stylesheet (for the IT guys among us).

I'm in detail interested, whether older browser or macs can show the page.

If it works, it is much easer to create the pages for swaps than do it
 conventionally with HTML.

 Thanks

Thanks,
but an other mail isn't going through.

if you have some time, pls do me a favor:

The page : http://www.alrhome.de/ff/swap.xml
It should show some 10 neat flies with names and tyers. There are some
links on it, but they do not work.

As you see at the extension, it is not html, but xml data. therefore the
display of the page depends upon if your browser can handle the xml and
the xslt stylesheet (for the IT guys among us).

I'm in detail interested, whether older browser or macs can show the page.

If it works, it is much easer to create the pages for swaps than do it
conventionally with HTML.

Thanks
Rene

Jimmy,
at the very end it i important that we recover, not so much the time.
And see, even emails tak their time.
I did send my answer to your 'test' on August, 31. And whoop, only 9
days later it surfaced on the list.
But I don't want to blame google, my first analysis shows, that my
provider did need the time to transfer it.
A snail mail would have been faster, even in the US

2009-09-08 Thread Jimmy D. Moore
Yep, but just barely. This damned pneumonia sapped all my strength.
Been 3 1/2 weeks now and every time I think I'm over it, I'm
reminded that I'm still not 100 %. Can't do much without breaking
into a sweat. Didn't realize recovery took so long.

[VFB] Re: TEST

2009-04-22 Thread Alan Di Somma
Tony:

I found my old hat pin from the SowBug and it was 2004.
Me and my wife had a great time there and want to make it back again very soon.
I had my Rotator Cuff operated on in Dec and have gone thru therapy.
I am starting a strengthening program at home now so I should be good.

I follow all the posts and am glad that I can take some time and answer some of
them now.

I have a trip of a life time planned for Alaska in Sept.
I have gotten out a bunch of recepie books and will start with the simple ones
till I feel comfortable for Salmon flys.

One of the books has Don Ordes mouse in it. Don't think I will be trying that
one.
It is one that my fishing buddy Gordon Mankins brought back from the FFF
Conclave of 1995.
It is called Patterns of the Masters and he surely belongs in there.

Thank you,

Thanks Tony. It has been a long time since I have been able to post to the list.
I had to change some settings in my Outlook Express in order to be able to post.

It looks like I will be going to Alaska in Sept. to do some FF for trout and

It also appears that I may be able to fish for Salmon also.
I have to get busy learing to tie all over again.

[VFB] Re: TEST- now sammin recipe

2009-04-15 Thread DonO
[VFB] Re: TESTAllan,
I wait until I make jerky, and just put the salmon (store-bought) in the smoker
on the low setting for smoking and dehydrating the beef (may top it with some
seasonings). The salmon smokes and sorta poaches from the heat and moisture
being driven off the jerky, and it also picks up the peppery flavors as they
pass by. I don't leave it in anywhere near as long as the jerky, tho- don't
want it to dry out.

Once I take it out the smoker, I vacuum bag it and put it in the freezer. When
I want some, I take it out and put it on the hot grill while frozen and cook
the outsides dark until it the inside thaws. So I have a nicely seasoned
salmon filet, spiced smoky-sweet, charred outside and soft and moist inside.
Yummy. I also like to eat it cold after that process.

I also add bacon to the smoker, leave it for an hour or so, pepper it real
good, and re-pack it vacuum sealed. I love the flavor of real smoked bacon.
Bought a half-pig butchered and got some un-cured side-pork packages
(bacon-cut). Can't wait to marinate and smoke it and give that a fry.

[VFB] Re: TEST

2009-04-15 Thread Alan Di Somma
Don O:

I have been very busy at work.
The economy is so bad that my sales fell from $5.4Million to $4.3 Million and I
had to work even harder to get to that number last year.

I have seen a big improvement in the economy this past two months over last
year at this time.
It appears as though people are starting to open up their wallets and start
spending again. That makes the apartment industry, spend more.
We have been seeing the people losing their houses because of forclosures
renting the 'higher end' orA+apartments.
The unfortunate people that are being forced to move out of rental homes after
they paid the rent for the month, because to owner let the house go into
forclouser, are moving into the B class apartments.
The people losing their jobs are either moving into C apartments or moving in
with family.
All this moving is actually creating more sales for me and a trickle down
effect into other businesses.

As far as fishing is concernedZippo-Zilch-Nada.

Now I have to learn how to tie all over again.

I am looking forward to your DVD.

At least I have serveral months before the Alaska trip in Sept.

Thank you,
Alan Di Somma

You have to get up every morning with a smile on your face and show the world
all the love in your heart.

Thanks Tony. It has been a long time since I have been able to post to the
list.
I had to change some settings in my Outlook Express in order to be able to
post.

It looks like I will be going to Alaska in Sept. to do some FF for trout
and Grayling.

It also appears that I may be able to fish for Salmon also.
I have to get busy learing to tie all over again.
I haven't tied much since the Sow Bug , I think it was in 2003 or 2004.
Can't remember.

Do you have any good Salmon recipies?

Thank you,

Allan,
Another box of rope-dubbed flies is headed your way for spring
'field-testing'.

Got the photo of your size 18 caddis 'poopa'. Very nice job. When I do
them that small, I use less dubbing and make more segments. The 'wild
hairs' don't seem to make a difference to the fish, tho.

[VFB] Re: Test - any buddy out there?- reply 1 thru 12

2009-02-12 Thread DonO

I thought about building them, but from research I learned that adjustable
floats are best, and easy to remove are even better. I haven't experienced
yet what the advantages are, but I have read that the outriggers must be up
when under motor-drive. Maybe they aren't strong enough to handle the water
resistance, or they splash, or work loose with chop, or probably during a
turn, the inside float is driven under the surface (bending or breaking it?)
and the outer one is up in the air. I bought mine from Cabelas, so if they
don't work, I can get my $$ back.

Have much to learn, maybe by getting wet. Won't be my 1st time getting
dumped out of a canoe by an outside force!

Speaking of drowned cell phones...I bought some Magellan fishing shirts when
I was in NO, and they are great for $15 (compared to $40 - $60 for my
Columbias and Ex-officios), and ea. came with a clear zippered waterproof
clip/string-attached pouch (4 x 4) for a cell-phone and other items that
can't get wet. The attachment point is inside the chest pockets and that's
where it stays with your stuff safe. They have all of the features as the
others, but are very inexpensive. I beat up my fishing shirts pretty bad,
so these won't be so hard to make rags out of down the road.

One thing I learned is not to put my credit card in with my magnetic money
clip or my cell-phone while it is on. Seems they mess with the metallic
strip on the credit card. So I keep it separate with my DL and fishing
license.

It was Academy Sporting Goods in Kenner, La. I found a website with both
the long and short sleeve shirts, both under 20 bucks. I can't remember if
the shirts I bought were $15.99 or $16.99, but the color they picked for the

from, plus white. They also didn't show that they come with the waterproof
pouch.

MeddelandeSo OK, what do we need to liven up the ol' list one more time?
I'm not as busy right now as I have been- that's for sure.
Got home from Moab and had a million things to catch up on, then left for 3
weeks. Now I'm back for awhile ('til mid-March anyway).

Swaps are always good.

1. If someone wants to host a materials swap, it's time for spring cleaning for
me again. I bought a whole male peacock hide at the Denver Furimski show-
tail, wings, body, crest, everything. It's the blue-neck variety, so I have
lots if irredescent blue neck fan feathers (good for rope-dubbing), the
tan/green fans, lots of eyes. The tail had turned 50% brassy-colored, so I
won't have to sun them to get them to change. (Brassed-out peacock is great
for nymphs). I'd be willing to send in some neat feathers if a swapmeister
wants to divvy them up with the participants. I'd also put in some
cherry-picks for the swapmeister's efforts.

2. Got the video-taping done on Monday for my 1st DVD- Rope-Dubbing with
DonO. Had a professional TV cameraman (a friend) come in to do the taping
with professional equipment (for a 'friendly $fee'- LOL). He'll also do the
editing, so I'm looking forwards to seeing what we did so far. We taped for
about 6 hours to get it all done, and I macro-photographed flies for about 4
hours yesterday for the inserts. It will be about one hour in HD format, so
I'll have as many materials demonstrated as the space will allow, and lots of
overlaid photos to help. Although a lot of patterns are shown, it's really a
technique video, the basics and sub-techniques of the rope-dub applied to many
materials. I've decided to put the price at $29.95 to VFBers and $39.95 for
the public (I was told by some that it should be $99.95 for as much stuff as it
has), but I don't want to have them pirated because the price is high. The
cameraman knows how to copy-protect the DVD (latest stuff, anyway), so copying
should be minimal. The two Denver shows finally motivated me to 'git 'r dun',
as I had many requests for a DVD as I was demonstrating (I could have sold 50
of them easy at each show). We still have the up-front fishing segment, the
foreward, and the ending with links and credits to finish, so I'm thinking
about May the production and copying should be complete and ready for sales.
The video will be HQ and professionally done, with about a year's worth of
techniques to master- well worth $30/$40. To start, the main source for the
DVDs will be my website and the fly-shows.

3. Once the rope-dub video has been out a couple of months, I'll host another
rope-dub swap with those VFBers who bought DVDs. We'll all pick different
materials and submit the practiced efforts. Like before, 1st place will get a
14/0 Fantasy Fly Monster-Muddler (Nick won it). And this time, 2nd place will
get a show-mouse and 3rd will get a Whiting grade 1 dry-fly neck. Everyone
will win as they'll have samples of many types of dubbing and what they look
like rope-dubbed. Extra points will be awarded to those who submit different
tying-styles of one type of dubbing.

4. Once we get the 'buggs' worked out for doing videos, I'll do the mouse
video, then an advanced rope-dubbing video. Then on the to-do list is Fly-flex
(Flex-o), McFlyfoam, salt-water streamers, Awesome-hair, and an archive video
of the Baits Motel routine. I still prefer tying and fishing over media-work,
but I have some long-range goals in mind for doing the videos.

5. BTW, I found a great dubbing inside of one of the dog's stuffed animal toys
(which she happily ripped out for me). It's a shiny white very-fluffly
synthetic fiber that sets up like a pillow. It rope-dubs perfectly and gives
all of the different looks (awesome one-material mysis shrimp). I have to dye
some now and see how it takes the colors. This stuff would never respond to a
conventional dubbing technique- even worse than ice-dub. Hmmm...I wonder
what's in the other stuffed toys...and in my wife's stuffed animals...and those
sofa-pillows... hm.. (Dr. D gets me in trouble again)

6. Saw an article in a recent fly-mag about mako-shark flyfishing out of
SanDiego. Looked like a ton of fun and a work-out for my #5 Abel and 17wt Cam
Seigler saltwater rod (and me too). Gotta go do that just once at least. They
run up to 600lb, but they only cast to 200lb ones or less.

7. Planning a trip to Loreto, Baja this fall (hoping to get the proper slot),
once again for dorado, sailfish, and striped marlin. The wife says she'll give
it a try. Maybe with the sluggish economy there will be better pickings.

8. Thanks and Kudos to JimmyD. Can always count on him for something to read
on the vfb list.

9. Once I get the canoe outfitted for flyfishing, I'll post some photos. Any
suggestions?
(15' Gruman aluminum square-stern sports-canoe with outriggers)

10. Just sent another 'goody-box' to a lister, and another one is well

weeks. Now I'm back for awhile ('til mid-March anyway).

 Swaps are always good.

 1. If someone wants to host a materials swap, it's time for spring cleaning
for me again. I bought a whole male peacock hide at the Denver Furimski
show- tail, wings, body, crest, everything. It's the blue-neck variety, so
I have lots if irredescent blue neck fan feathers (good for rope-dubbing),
the tan/green fans, lots of eyes. The tail had turned 50% brassy-colored,
so I won't have to sun them to get them to change. (Brassed-out peacock is
great for nymphs). I'd be willing to send in some neat feathers if a
swapmeister wants to divvy them up with the participants. I'd also put in
some cherry-picks for the swapmeister's efforts.

It will be about one hour in HD format, so
I'll have as many materials demonstrated as the space will allow, and lots
of overlaid photos to help. Although a lot of patterns are shown, it's
really a technique video, the basics and sub-techniques of the rope-dub
applied to many materials. I've decided to put the price at $29.95 to
VFBers and $39.95 for the public (I was told by some that it should be
$99.95 for as much stuff as it has), but I don't want to have them pirated
because the price is high. The cameraman knows how to copy-protect the DVD
(latest stuff, anyway), so copying should be minimal. The two Denver shows
finally motivated me to 'git 'r dun', as I had many requests for a DVD as I
was demonstrating (I could have sold 50 of them easy at each show). We
still have the up-front fishing segment, the foreward, and the ending with
links and credits to finish, so I'm thinking about May the production and
copying should be complete and ready for sales. The video will be HQ and
professionally done, with about a year's worth of techniques to master- well
worth $30/$40. To start, the main source for the DVDs will be my website
 and the fly-shows.

 3. Once the rope-dub video has been out a couple of months, I'll host
another rope-dub swap with those VFBers who bought DVDs. We'll all pick
different materials and submit the practiced efforts. Like before, 1st
place will get a 14/0 Fantasy Fly Monster-Muddler (Nick won it). And this
time, 2nd place will get a show-mouse and 3rd will get a Whiting grade
1 dry-fly neck. Everyone will win as they'll have samples of many types of
dubbing and what they look like rope-dubbed. Extra points will be awarded
to those who submit different tying-styles of one type of dubbing.

 4. Once we get the 'buggs' worked out for doing videos, I'll do the mouse
video, then an advanced rope-dubbing video. Then on the to-do list is
 Fly-flex (Flex-o), McFlyfoam, salt-water streamers, Awesome-hair, and an
archive video of the Baits Motel routine. I still prefer tying and fishing
over media-work, but I have some long-range goals in mind for doing the
 videos.

 5. BTW, I found a great dubbing inside of one of the dog's stuffed animal
toys (which she happily ripped out for me). It's a shiny white very-fluffly
synthetic fiber that sets up like a pillow. It rope-dubs perfectly and
gives all of the different looks (awesome one-material mysis shrimp). I
have to dye some now and see how it takes the colors. This stuff would
never respond to a conventional dubbing technique- even worse than ice-dub.
Hmmm...I wonder what's in the other stuffed toys...and in my wife's stuffed
animals...and those sofa-pillows... hm.. (Dr. D gets me in trouble
 again)

 6. Saw an article in a recent fly-mag about mako-shark flyfishing out of
SanDiego. Looked like a ton of fun and a work-out for my #5 Abel and 17wt
Cam Seigler saltwater rod (and me too). Gotta go do that just once at
least. They run up to 600lb, but they only cast to 200lb ones or less.

 7. Planning a trip to Loreto, Baja this fall (hoping to get the proper
slot), once again for dorado, sailfish, and striped marlin. The wife says
she'll give it a try. Maybe with the sluggish

Jeff,
Sheese... I've only had 3 months off- whutzamatter? Unfortunately, my wife
booked a cruise last year, and it happend to fall on the Sowbug weekend. So
I won't be making it this year again. I was looking forward to going, too.
Live rope-dubbing tutoring works best, but the DVD should be very close to
actually being there.
I'm not real jazzed about a cruise, either, as it's too far down to the
water to flyfish. We do hold up in the Bahamas for a few days, so I am
bringing a 5wt fly rod and some flats-flies.
Twelve days on the ocean- hmmm. I am definitely this time bringing my Cajun
spices, Indian curry spices, and BBQ sauce, and they are going to let me
cook in their kitchen, or else I'll cook on the deck. Their food is OK, but
oh so bland. Last cruise, I loaded up on Jamacan jerk and curry when I was
on St. Thomas. Found a small deli downtown, and will look for it again.

Are you filling some of that embarrassing free time with a Sowbug visit?
I've got some Kansas boys that want a live rope-dub lesson and probably
would benefit from a mouse show.
